Two robbers, one of them armed with a gun, messed with the wrong 70-year-old.
The septuagenarian, a security guard who works nights, kicked the gun out of the hand of the armed man, drew his own weapon and chased both men away.
The robbery happened about 3 a.m. Monday at the El Palacio de los Jugos in Hialeah at West 24th Avenue and 78th Street. The security guard watches the store and the parking lot.
The two men, wearing Halloween masks, came at him from behind with a gun.
After disarming the man with a swift kick, the security guard pulled his own gun and fired two shots.
The robbers ran away.
The owner of the store, Jose Gutierrez, said he was not surprised. The security guard has military training and could have killed them if he wanted to, Gutierrez said.
The guard, whose name was not immediately revealed, was not injured.
Miami police are looking for two to three men in a dark getaway car.
Pittsburgh fighter Billy Conn did similarly at age 72 when he was a customer in a Pittsburgh convenience store.

Conn, who appeared in a 1941 movie called “The Pittsburgh Kid,” maintained his boxing skills into his later years. He stepped into the middle of a robbery at a Pittsburgh convenience store in 1990 after the robber punched the store manager.
Conn took a swing at the robber and ended up on the floor of the store, scuffling with him.
“You always go with your best punch — straight left,” Conn told television station WTAE afterward. “I think I interrupted his plans.”
The robber managed to get away, but not before Conn pulled off his coat, which contained his name and address, making the arrest an easy one.
Well, so much for the “wisdom” that an elderly security guard is easy pickins. LOL
Bravo to him!
And thanks for reminding me of that story regarding Billy Cohn. I had forgotten about it. He was generally considered a good guy. May he rest in peace.
If I were his employer, I would give him some paid time off and free ammo so he could visit the firing range to improve his aim.
