ATLANTA, Nov. 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said today that African American hopelessness documented in a new Pew Research poll is linked in part to the high abortion rate in the black community. The Pew poll, released Tuesday, found that less than half of African Americans believe life will get better for them.
"Children are the future. When you destroy your children, you destroy hope," said Dr. King. "The incredibly high number of abortions performed on black women in this country has to take a toll not just on the women involved, but also on their families, friends, and communities. If African Americans feel that life will not get better, I have to believe that abortion is feeding into that hopelessness."
"I know from personal experience that abortion causes depression, regret, and despair," added Dr. King. "I also know from personal experience that this despair can be healed and the wounded can be brought back to joy and hope through faith. What I want the government to do is guarantee our basic rights and the most basic right is the right to life. If we love and welcome our children, optimism for the future can only increase."

I would be very happy to see her recognized (along with Bill Cosby) as a voice of hope in the black community.. it sure seems like she is gaining traction in the press.
Dr. Alveda King exhibits incredible moral clarity and is a far greater example of her uncle’s Dream than the leftists who disgrace his name for their own political gain.

Yes, indeed. Mother Teresa suggested as much at the famous White House prayer breakfast, when she said that abortion was America’s fundamental problem.
Abortion leads in turn to broken families, contempt for marriage and family, despair, drugs, and all the other cultural diseases that plague so many in the black communities.

Black percentage of population in America has stayed about the same for many years. With all the immigration from Africa, I wonder the effect of so much abortion among the native born.

You are right. When people do not care about the most innocent of us, then why care about others.
When many Americans are willing to stand by and silently allow the slaughter of over 3500 infants EVERY DAY, I question our moral authority to lead the free world.

Pop-media feeds the destruction partially through virtual prostitution of women in general. There’s money to be made at the expense of respect for women and likewise the consequences are severe. If the male participants of these aborted pregnancies were truly interested in the women they were knocking-up, I bet the stats on abortion and depression would different. The institution of victimization is also culpable in its persistent message of inadequacy.
It’s unfortunate the losses in the black community continue despite the departure from the sins of days long gone. It would be appropriate to recognize that the problem exists within a subset of the black community and not the group as a whole.
