A large Maryland county near Washington, DC, will soon decide whether to declare transgender people a "protected class" under law and become the latest in a growing list of jurisdictions nationally to ban discrimination on the basis of "gender identity and expression."
The Montgomery County Council is scheduled to vote next Tuesday (November 13) on a bill that would add "gender identity" to the county's existing non-discrimination policy. The measure (Bill 23-07) is being pushed by the homosexual activist group Equality Maryland and by three Council members, including one who has a transgendered male staff member.
Two conservatives groups -- Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX) and Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum (CRC) -- are protesting the bill. CRC director Michelle Turner says the proposal does not take into consideration the "safety and well-being of women and young girls."
"The proposed bill as it is right now would allow transgenders to use the restroom, shower room, locker room of the gender that they are 'feeling' that day or at that time," she explains. "Meaning a man, if he is 'feeling' like a woman -- even though he still has male genitalia -- would be permitted access to the women's locker room, shower room, and bathroom."
Turner takes issue with the Council's decision to even bring the matter to a vote. "We find it very disconcerting that they would not have any problem with a man, even though dressed as a woman, being in a shower room with women and girls, putting their own safety at risk there," says the CRC director. "We believe that individuals who are going through this are, as the American Psychiatric Association states, suffering from a gender identity disorder."
Dr. Ruth Jacobs, an infectious disease specialist and CRC representative, testified before members of the Council last week, telling them that the American Psychiatric Association recognizes "gender identity disorder" as a mental illness. Jacobs told the Council that no one has studied the long-term effects on children, for example, when early on in their education they are introduced to gender change as something that is normal and healthy. "This bill forces the school to hire a mentally ill person," she stated.
A former transgender from PFOX also testified against the bill at the hearing. According to a press release from PFOX, those opposing the measure have been told that, under the bill, it could be considered "harassment" to challenge a male's entry into a female area.
It should be illegal for a male to put on a dress and get to enter the female restroom. It should be illegal for a female to put on some trousers and go eyeball the urinals.
Which restroom would a gay male with a sexual preference for women use?

I think, in all fairness to all persuasions, we should do away with sexual proclivity and deviance (hetero OR homo) as a specified protected class....i.e., Male and Female are the ONLY recognized genders, NO freebies for deviates, NO special protections for lifestyles.....PERIOD.

Exactly. Modest women (and men) will be left to save their clothing from dangling into the toilet as they change behind a closed stall door. Those who need to relieve themselves (hereby dubbed Squatting-Americans) must wait their turn for the rare stall to become available. Showers? Feh. Who traps themselves nekkid in a tiled rapechute? That can wait til you’re in the privacy and safety of home. Meanwhile, the selfish freak who should be in the other-gendered locker room has the entire space to himself.

My college dorm went to co-ed floors my first year there. The floors were built with only one bathroom, so they went with co-ed bath/shower rooms on each floor. In deference to the ladies, they removed the urinals and went all-stall. The showers had individual drying areas, so you could dry off and dress in private, if you wanted to. A surprising number of residents, both male and female, chose not to.
This was 26 years ago. But it was Berkeley, CA, so go figure.
So were there seperate closed shower stalls for the genders or what? Or was it a one person at a time type of thing?
They were individual showers, but we did not always use them one person at a time, if you catch my drift...

In any case, it would quickly put an end to it if folks would just file charges against deviants caught in the wrong room.

It shouldn't be either by medical ceritification or by "feelings". To start with there is no medical test, except for a patient telling a doctor he "feels he is a woman in a man's body", to determine this kind of phycosis. This is a mental illness and should be treated, not indulged. If a male has male parts hanging between his legs, he is them deifinitely a male, not a woman regardless of what a Doctor says or the way he feels.
A man who wants his dick cut off is crazy and there is no other way to see it unless you are so stupid that you buy into the crap about being born in the wrong body.
Put these people in a mental institution where they belong. Isn't stopping someone from harming themselves or others the criteria for committing someone? If getting a body part whacked off isn't harming ones self I don't know what would be.
