Illegal Arizona Family Deported After Son Found With Pot at School
Associated Press ^ | Nov 6, 2007

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Tucson high school student and his family were deported after the teen was found with marijuana at school and police called the U.S. Border Patrol after learning he and his family were illegal immigrants.

The incident raised concern among immigrants rights activists, but Tucson police said the officer acted appropriately by calling immigration agents.

Police were called to Catalina High Magnet School Thursday after school officials found a small amount of marijuana in the backpack of a ninth-grader who appeared to be under the influence, said Chyrl Hill Lander, a spokeswoman for the Tucson Unified School District.

Police then asked the boy's parents to come to the school, and once they arrived an officer asked to see their driver's licenses. The parents told officers they had been living illegally in the U.S. for six years, along with the ninth-grader and their 17- and 12-year-old sons, assistant police chief Roberto Villasenor said Monday.

If cops bust a kid and find out the family are criminals they’d lock ‘em up. Why do these “activists” think this is any different?

The Tucson police officer did the right thing! Those are exactly the kind of people we don't want to welcome to our country.

To the Open Borders Crowd, there's no difference between criminal illegals and other illegals. They both deserve to be amnestied.

"Now you have people who are afraid to call the police when they have been robbed because they are afraid the police will come and instead of investigating the crime will ask them about their immigration status," said Jennifer Allen, director of Tucson-based Border Action Network."

I'll bet if Jennifer has a parrot at home, it can say that too.

"Now you have people who are afraid to call the police when they have been robbed because they are afraid the police will come and instead of investigating the crime will ask them about their immigration status," said Jennifer Allen, director of Tucson-based Border Action Network.

The solution is real simple, Jennifer. So do the right thing and become a legal citizen instead of slunking around the gutter living your life like a fugitive.

I have no sympathy for people who make themselves vulnerable to sleazy under-the-table employers, blackmail artists, and arrest/deportation if they're involved in something as simple as a traffic ticket or fender-bender. It's their fault for subjecting their kids to living on-the-lam, it's not the fault of society or the cops who enforcing laws that 80% of American citizens support (and 98% of legal immigrants).

I'm sick of these sob stories about how enforcing the nation's immigration laws tears apart families and subjects them to suffering. If they lived their lives like normal decent people, it wouldn't be happening. It's their fault, not everyone else's!

This story is good news. Criminals were caught and appropriate action was taken.

The MSM lies about Open Borders. The people advocating it mean to undermine rather than strengthen the United States. But don't look for the press to acknowledge it.

While I agree with you, there's another aspect that the Closed Borders crowd has yet to face. Without low-cost labor coming in, American products will be more expensive and less able to compete in the international market (and there's no putting that genie back into the bottle!).

So Americans will have to either become more productive (or raise quality or innovation or...) to justify their higher wages, or see a slide in what we can charge the rest of the world. After all, why should a German buy something from America if he can get the same thing cheaper from China..or a company that sets up in Mexico and takes advantage of the low labor costs?

IOW, the closed border isn't some magic bullet against wage erosion here.

I don't understand something. Maybe somebody can enlighten me. Don't they require kids to have a record of immunizations before they can be enrolled in public schools today?

We live in NY State...that's the first problem. My oldest son, who is 41, already has his BA and has taken refresher courses in German at the local community college this past year. When he tried to sign up for two classes in the same semester (another language plus a photography class), they told him he would have to provide immunization records. I located his immunization chart from when he was a baby, but part of the card was chewed off by one of our animals and the dates are missing. Because he can't provide them with an official document, they won't let him take more than one course per semester.

It boggles my mind, since none of these classes are for credit. And if they let him attend one course on campus without his vaccination record, why not two? He lives downstate from me and I've told him I will try to contact the local health department in hopes that they will have record of his immunizations. Of course the pediatrician who treated him isn't in practice anymore or is dead, so that option is out. But how in the hell do illegals get to attend school without proper vaccination documentation, and someone who was born in this country can't even take two college courses without proving they've been immunized?

Draw a picture of a gun in first grade and call the cops,

Hug your second grade teacher and be a sex criminal,

Look at a college co-ed and be tried for sexual harassment,

Mildly disagree about the higher prices for American exports. While it's true that the absence of illegals in our labor force will produce higher domestic prices for many affected foodstuffs, housing etc., the Germans are already buying goods from China since we just don’t compete on most China exports and haven’t for a long time. (The China advantage is felt most on labor intensive consumer products like TVs, electronics, games, toys and apparel, even golf balls!)

Our major export goods like military and commercial jets, high tech software, locomotives, power generators, Cat and Deere earth moving equipment, cranes, as well as nonperishable grains and vegetable oils involve few concessions to unskilled illegal immigrant labor.

Hard to prove that are returnees re-offenders. They pick a new name, steal/buy another US ID and ta-da - back in business.

Branding on the forehead is out, maybe a tat?. Nah, that never worked anyway. To get rid of rats, you have to *stop feeding them*.

To have Illegals leave, you have to cut off welfare, jobs and everything else that attracts them in the first palce. Maybe we could learn from Finland or Denmark.

I guess to Jennifer being here illegally isn't a crime. The police are supposed to investigate all crimes and that includes being here illegally.

The word illegal actually means a crime has been committed Jennifer, I guess they don't teach that in liberal school.

Actually, some of those industries have been some of the strongest supporters of illegal immigration.

Regardless, Americans will have to reverse the "it's...like...our birthright, Dude..." mentality if they want to keep their economic position in the world.
