DUNCAN HUNTER HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF VETERANS DAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 9, 2007

CONTACT: Gary Becks (619) 334-1655, dlhunter08@yahoo.com

San Diego, CA - - - Presidential candidate and current Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Duncan Hunter, today made the following statement regarding Veterans Day.

"Veterans Day provides our nation the opportunity to reflect thankfully on the sacrifices of those who have served the cause of freedom.

"In the last century more than 619,000 Americans in uniform were killed on battlefields around the world protecting our nation and our way of life.

"We cannot thank them all sufficiently. It is beyond human capability to grasp the enormity of what they gave so the rest of us might enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We can, however, reflect on the unique quality of America 's veterans and their service.

"From Bunker Hill to New Orleans, Gettysburg to San Juan Hill, Belleau Wood to Normandy, Chosin Reservoir to Khe San, Desert Storm to Kabul, Baghdad to Fallujah, American veterans have represented the finest of human qualities. "Greater love hath no man than he who lays down his life for another" is what the Bible tells us. Our veterans have made that sacrifice unflinchingly, with a character that General Douglas MacArthur described as "stainless." They make the sacrifice for their comrades in arms, their "buddies" and the immediate mission at hand. But in a greater sense they have made the sacrifice for millions of Americans whom they do not know and who do not know them.

"And uniquely, American veterans have not brought subjugation to the nations they prevailed in, but rather brought freedom. From the Philippines to Japan , to Germany , to El Salvador and Panama … America has never coveted another nation, but has only asked that freedom be followed and that the institutions of freedom be established, often with American aid.

"All of us, secure in America 's blessings can honor our veterans today. We can do this by thanking them personally, by involving ourselves in the many organizations that serve veterans and their families and, finally, we can follow their model of selflessness by helping our fellow citizens wherever we see a need."

Does any other candidate for President speak like this, and mean it from the heart, not as campaign rhetoric? This man was a Ranger! He is solid gold; what we are looking for.

I am glad someone does!

Although I won’t be voting for him in the primary, I do respect him.

If he would win the primary, my arm could be twisted to vote for him for President.

Fred has lost ~30 points at Intrade over the last few weeks, with some heavy short interest still prevailing.

I have my eye on Fred and Mike. I don’t know what’s going on with Fred .... I know for sure that I will NOT be voting for Rudy, Ron Paul, Mitt or Mcpain. NO MORE SOCIAL LIBERALS.

It’s too soon for me to get to excited about the others. I need to educate myself more on them.

I won't sit around passively waiting for Hunter to "get traction." Let's do our best to give him traction! I doubt there has been a finer man running for President in my lifetime, and that includes Ronald Reagan.

I’ll trust a real Veteran ( as opposed to a lying SOB like Kerry) before I trust a politician. On the other hand, I will trust and believe a Veteran who happens to also be a politician.
While the front runners appear to be imploding, Duncan Hunter is gaining ground.

One outlet that seems worth pursuing is Glenn Beck — he’s one of (if not the only conservative media personality with any reach willing to give Hunter a bump.

We need to push him on this and get him to talk up Hunter as the conservative candidate on his shows.

He has my vote. He is the best of the group by far. He has not only talked the talk, but has actually walked the walk.

He humbly tells of being an Army Ranger in Viet Nam and does not try to use it like John Kerry. His son has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Go Hunter!! He is MY candidate and has been from the beginning.

Well, if we don’t get him past the primaries; how the heck do you get him nominated so you can vote for him?

Every vote counts; not just leaving it to someone else. It’s not magic here and there are no other true conservative candidates.

If I want magic tricks; I will vote Rino or Hillary.

Look, I heard Mike H on Hannity today. Oh he is a smooth one. If you vote for him; think Bill Clinton.

The best con artists can look you right in the eyes with their baby blues and lie. He’s a Rino. I heard him say all of the stuff he is not for. Yeah right. It’s a game he’s playing and I am tired of games.

I want a true conservative. I don’t want Hollywood, or the rest anymore. I have been sold a bill of goods way too many times in the past with “Mr. Personalities”. I don’t want gimmicks, quirks; whatever. No thanks. I can do without them.

I want someone who is sane and will calmly take the helm. That person is Duncan Hunter.

First —— I have always liked and respected Duncan Hunter, so this is not to argue...

I just finished reading Douglas MacKinnon’s

“Ten Things the Republican Nominee Must Understand to Earn the True Conservative Vote”

A FreeRepublic post under the same title..

I am a Republican and have always voted R .. except for my first election and that was for Kennedy. So I have been around awhile and I have to say I don’t like the flavor of MacKinnon’s rules.

But then I don’t like to hear someone say they would vote another party just to ‘show them’. That type of vote, if I beleive the media that voters DID vote for another party and it was not voter fraud, got us to a Dem congress and senate.

That really showed ‘them’ ya!.

I look forward to listening to Hunter on Glenn Beck.

His program yesterday was great. But is Washington listening - oh, no, that’s right, the dems control the senate and house — which ALSO MEANS THE MEDIA controls!!!!!

A blog post from a couple months back that we missed:

http://paxalles.blogs.com/paxalles/2007/08/rep-duncan-hu-1.html

Rep. Duncan Hunter Doesn’t Match GOP Shallow Boomer Values

One has wonder why Rep. Duncan Hunter hasn’t been celebrated and promoted as a premiere GOP contender for 2008. Hunter is a military man with a lineage of military heroes - with a father who served in WWII, Duncan Hunter serving in Vietnam as an Army Ranger, and his son having served several tours of duty in Iraq. Hcame back and got a law degree on the GI bill and got elected to Congress, representing the heavily Democratic 52nd District in San Diego. Hunter has distinguished himself on the House Armed Services Committee and has been prominent in speaking with authority on a number of foreign policy issues as well such as China. He was one congressman that actually got part of a border fence built in his district and has been an outspoken foe of illegal immigration. He has the highest ratings from the NRA. He is pro-life. for tax cuts and has been married once to wife Lynne with two sons and four granchildren.

So where are all those GOPers who want pro-life, pro-family, low taxes, strong military and foreign policy, strong economy? They are cozying up to candidates who with multiple marriages who fudge on social values, from elite backgrounds who earned scads of money, who have no foreign policy or military experience - and who have lost lots of weight - and have Hollywood cred!

Sadly, the GOP has its own version of the shallow boomers - who identify with those who are good people - but who represent boomer values - getting rich, dieting and working out, married a few times, dicey on abortion and who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk on national defense, foreign policy or military service. They have cut and run from traditional party values - and are in it not to win with principles - but expediency.

Duncan Hunter, at the Iowa straw poll, spoke like a president - not with the stump speech but with a resume and issues that go beyond the standard red meat. But that wouldn’t cut well with the media - or with the voters who seem to want someone like themselves - not someone who has shown love of country by putting his life on the line for it - and then served it well in the Congress.

That’s what I’d like to know. It’s as if somebody put a thick cloud over their collective brains.
