The media have designated the front-runners for Republican and Democratic nominations for the 2008 presidential election and seem to expect American voters to line up behind one of them right now, even though the national nominating conventions won't take place until next summer.
Most Republicans are still shopping, and here are some of the statements they would like hear from a presidential candidate.
Republicans want a president to appoint only judges who will enforce the U.S. Constitution as it was written. They want our president to appoint only judges who publicly reject the liberal notion that the Constitution is "evolving," or that decisions can be based on "emerging awareness" about morals.
Republicans want the president to be a leader in protecting U.S. sovereignty and independence from foreign control over our lives and laws. Republicans want him to reject all United Nations treaties such as the U.N. Law of the Sea Treaty which would make all use of the oceans subject to the International Seabed Authority the U.N. Treaty on the Rights of the Child and the U.N. Treaty on Women.
Republicans want their candidate for president to announce that he considers it a presidential duty to prevent illegal entry into the United States. He should praise the American people for successfully getting the U.S. Senate to defeat the 2007 Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill earlier this year.

Without even reading the article, I’m willing to bet that most of the issues touched upon would favor Duncan Hunter.
That article would be titled “Conservatives want republicans to tell them the truth”.
The thing I like about Duncan Hunter is the fact that he isn’t telling me what I want to hear. That takes integrity.
- John
I want to see a list of yes or no questions that no candidate is allowed to elaborate on like:
1.Do you believe that Americans have the right to own and carry a firearm?
2. Do you believe in abortion?
3. Do you want a border fence built?
4. Do you want to see some sort of SS privatization?
5. Are you committed to defeating terror?
6. Will you use force to stop Iran from getting the bomb?
7. Will you work to repeal Roe V. Wade?
8. Do you want to reform the tax code toward a flat or fair tax?
9. Are you for drilling for oil in ANWR?
10. Do you believe in global warming?
These are just some starters. I want a pinned down answer from everyone of them not some wishy washy BS, this will separate the men from boys.
Sounds like she’s describing Duncan Hunter to me.
Some of the candidates ought to read this and tell us what we want to hear if they want to be THE candidate.
I know that telling us what we want to hear and actually keeping those promises once they get into office is two VERY different things, but............
3.) Romney
Exactly. There is one that will and he is Duncan Hunter.
I’ve spoken with Phyllis before. She is a very bright woman. But, I too, would never vote for a woman for President or Vice President. Other positions yes, but nothing that would put them near the football while PMSing ;)
One of the other campaigns called here the other day fishing for what I wanted to hear. I told them that it doesn’t matter what I want to hear, I want to hear what the candidate thinks.
They didn’t get their answer or any money.
And this ladies and gentlemen is why I think Phyllis Schlafly is a great lady.
Even what she doesn’t address is covered in her remarks touching on the Constitution of the United States.
This woman gets it like few others seem to, men or women.
Im looking for one who has the audacity to say what he believes and make no appologies for saying it. I hope Fred Thompson can do that. Reagan did it and people admired him for it.
Fight the war on Terror
Defend the border and enforce the laws.
Stop spending money like a drunken sailor.
Appoint conservative judges.
And for me thats about it.
I love it (sarc) when groups or campaigns call and they use call centers or volunteers that aren’t allowed to deviate from a script. This creates a wall. They want your money but they don’t want to answer any questions or address any concerns that involve them taking your money.
There is only one candidate that meats these requirments and that is Duncan Hunter.
sorry about the “meats” thing.
No doubt about it. But Republicans also want a candidate who can win next November, and that fact doesn not favor Duncan Hunter. Nor does it favor Tom Tancredo.
They are both good men whose campaigns have not attracted widespread support. Conservatives need to rally around the most conservative Republican candidate who can beat the Democrat nominee in the general election. Both have had long-running campaigns (nine and a half months for Hunter, over seven months for Tanc) which have gained no traction and have failed to lift them into double-digit territory.
With the Iowa caucuses less than two months away and the GOP convention just a little over six months ahead, it’s time for conservatives to unite against the RINO candidates, any of whom will bring another defeat for the Republican Party which will match or exceeed the one it endured in the 2006 mid-terms.
Liberal John Paul Stevens is now 87 years old, and the very liberal Ruth Bader Ginsberg is 74 and said to be not in the best of health. With one, and perhaps two, certain Supreme Court appointiments to be made by the next president, we just can’t afford to let the Democrat socialists win the White House in 2008.
It’s time for conservatives to get together.
Heres a very recent poll showing Hunter at 4%.

Heres one showing Fred at 6%, and discussing why.

Fred has lost ~30 points at Intrade over the last few weeks, with some heavy short interest still prevailing.

I just sent out another $50 check today.
....”its time for conservatives to unite against the RINO candidates”....
That’s exactly why conservatives are supporting Duncan Hunter.
Good for you. They won’t get that info from me so they continue scaming the public. Just like Arnie. There were so many red flags with that guy; it was unbelievable.
The one and only thing we need to do is elect a real conservative.
"I will sink Giuliani's battle ship and leave Hilary crying like a whiny schoolgirl."
And, I'd like to hear it said with the oratory skills to convince me it's true.
If the current Freeper poll is any indication then Hunter is gaining ground. He is only 6.5% behind Thompson.
“No doubt about it. But Republicans also want a candidate who can win next November, and that fact doesn not favor Duncan Hunter.”
I’ve made this point before. Once the primaries are over, they’re over. It’s a new ball game. It’s 0-0.
From that point on it’s no longer about name ID as much as it’s about which party you want in the WH. And the best way to get our candidate in is by creating a clear black & white race - Dem values vs. conservative values.
Nominating a RHINO like Rudy, Romney, Huckabee or McCain only blurs the campaign and actually makes it harder for the Republican candidate to win.
I true conservative, one who is opposite the Dem on every issue is the best way to not only ensure victory, but a potential landslide and mandate.
Hunter or Tancredo are the only two candidates who fit that bill.
In my mind, Hunter the more attractive.
A Hunter nomination is a guaranteed victory as Reagan over Mondale.
Reagan also won because he was a personally attractive candidate. That counts for a lot. Hunter doesn’t really come across that well.
I love it!
Great ticket.
Hunter would come across as the clear, quiet, thoughtful, master of the issues much like Cheney did to dismantle Edwards. Hilary’s shrillness would be no match.
On the veep side - Tancredo’s affable commonman speak would lighten the room - like Bush did over Kerry - with a predicatable robot Dem veep like Richardson or Dodd
Doesn’t matter. Look at his competition...50% of the people already said they won;t vote for Hillary under any circumstances — When the other 50% have to listen to her shrill screams or sister soulja drawl another 20% will jump over board as well.
Smaller, less intrusive government.
More importantly, if they can't raise her positives very much they'll start demonizing the Republican. You'll recall they tried to do that with Reagan. It didn't work because of how he came across personally. It would work like a charm with Hunter.
Wish I could - military members can’t contribute directly to any candidate, and I’m not about to give the RNC a dime until they come back to me.
Colonel, USAFR
>>Other positions yes, but nothing that would put them near the football while PMSing ;)<<
If Hillary is 60, now, shouldn’t she be way past the PMS stage? I think what we see in her is a medical condition called “Chronic confined Post Menopausal Syndrome”. There is no medical treatment. It is incurable. She is forever locked in to a hateful, raging, screeching bitterness.
(BTW, she aquired it at birth.)
Maybe.
But then again I’m not afraid of the MSM/Clintons trying to demonize a guy that has the facts on his side like writing the bill that built a fence along the southern border (favored by over 70%) — while defending a Amnestry supporter
That’s much better than having a sanctuary city candidate without a fight.
I think Hunter is gaining ground everywhere, right at the time that Thompson is losing ground.
I know that his candidacy has been derided in the past, but I’d rather be going up 8 weeks before Iowa than down.
I want each candidate to ensure that they say “I will pass a pro-life amendment guaranteeing abortion is outlawed for good in ALL 50 STATES”.
Liberal John Paul Stevens is now 87 years old, and the very liberal Ruth Bader Ginsberg is 74 and said to be not in the best of health. With one, and perhaps two, certain Supreme Court appointiments to be made by the next president, we just cant afford to let the Democrat socialists win the White House in 2008.
They would just be replaced. It would not interupt the balance on the court....However, I know what you are talking about.
Kimberly GG wrote: “Thats exactly why conservatives are supporting Duncan Hunter.”
Afew are. Unfrortunately for Rep. Hunter, not enough are. Conservatives’ votes are split among several candidates, which has enabled Giuliani to build up a big lead with moderate, liberal and some uninformed conservative voters.
Sooner or later, conservatives are going to have to get realistic and stop dividing up their votes. Rudy must be stopped!
