WASHINGTON The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library cannot account for the whereabouts of tens of thousands of artifacts relating to the country's 40th president, FOX News has confirmed.
< >
The audit of all 12 presidential libraries found that the Reagan Library couldn't locate more than 80,000 pieces of the collection, out of roughly 100,000 items.

My math may be weak but 80,000 out or 100,000 seems to be 80 percent.

Statistical methods are very effective when applied to a population of 100,000 items.
It's really very simple to generate a list of one or two hundred items randomly from the records of the entire collection. One then locates each of the randomly selected items. The fraction of items not found will very closely match the fraction of the entire collection that is missing.
Such a procedure is SO EASY that any director of such a library collection is guilty of criminal negligence not to have carried out such a process at least annually.
To identify the criminals in this case, one need only examine the records of the library to determine which directors carried out such a process and which didn't. The breach of trust in this case appears to be quite astounding.

Wheres Sandy Burglar? LOL...And in a completely unrelated story the Clinton Library recently discovered 80,000 items that purport to show how Bill Clinton's presidency saved the world from Communism.

If they did not do so, then they have defrauded you. Sounds like you have a case to me.

What an extremely sad story. I’ve not even had the chance to visit the Reagan Library yet and 80% of it is gone. This is not just pilfering. It’s mass theft of priceless historical artifacts. While I’m sure there was a lot of money made from these thefts, I imagine there was more to it than that. Never hire liberals to oversee the historical treasures of a conservative President and his administration.

80 %? How long does it take before someone notices that there's a lot of new, empty space???
I hope they can track it down - I wonder if it isn't hard core libs who want to deep six as much of his legacy as possible...
This is so outrageous it defies understanding

What an extremely sad story. Ive not even had the chance to visit the Reagan Library yet and 80% of it is gone. This is not just pilfering. No, 80% of it is not gone. Items not being properly accounted for and items having been stolen are two entirely different things.
There have certainly been some losses since they fired one employee over a theft. The poor record-keeping makes it difficult to determine that extent of any losses that have occurred.

And 80K items would seem to be the difference between a full warehouse and an empty warehouse. That kind of thing doesn't take a audit to notice.

I was going to visit there this past September but I didn’t have enough time to make a day of it. Hope they can recover the lost/stolen items. I hope the old Air Force One plane is still there, or did that get lost/unaccounted for? /sarc

On the radio I heard that the Reagan Library had FIRED an employee who was an archivist. Seems he was also a thief and they suspect he stole many of the items and/or sloppy bookkeeping accounts for the rest of the missing items.
To: decimon
Let me guess who first went looking for this item (who the seeker worked for?)
For weeks now the Clintons have been stonewalling press sources on the release of Bills presidential papers; which could provide some gems directly involving Hillary. They tried to point finger at the current White House, but that has been proven false - but still the press waits.
So now, this “Reagan Library” story of unobtainable records. Why does the timing not surprise me?

Okay, this is easy to figure out.
The Reagan artifacts are more valuable because he was the most popular president during the last 50 years. His stuff will sell like hotcakes while they can’t give away Jimmy’s junk.
Sooner or later the Reagan things will hit the auction houses.
