An Alternate "Rendition"
The New Media Journal ^ | November 8, 2007 | Bob Parks

The new political terror thriller "Rendition" has been released at a very opportune time. Now while many movies are bombing at the box office, this being one of them, the topic of torture in regards to terror suspects is one of those moral dilemmas that just won't go away.

When is it okay to torture a terror suspect? I'm sure some of you have heard that question posed: if a suspect may know of a nuclear weapon set to go off in an American city within the next few hours, do we observe his (or her) human rights and ask nicely? If that suspect doesn't answer and we're reasonably sure he or she knows where the bomb is, should we go Jack Bauer on the suspect, or conceivably give up a city in order to maintain our moral high ground?

Politics being what it is today, it would be a lose-lose for that government official who decided to let a city and millions of people burn. But if we "extracted" the information and saved the city, the government official would probably still be vilified for using savage tactics. The ACLU, and every human rights organization outside of The Hague would be calling for war crimes charges to be filed.

So what we do? While you'll need to see the movie to get specifics, here's how IMDB.com's (the Internet Movie Data Base) plot summary for the movie "Rendition" presents the question to the viewing audience...

Since these islamists desire to return to the middle ages, getting “medieval on their ass” seems appropriate (thanks Jules for line from Pulp Fiction).

Any “torture” technique that at peace-weenie will volunteer to have done to them (as in the recent water-boarding street theatre) is NOT torture. I don’t think that they would demonstrate any real torture such as having pieces of your body removed or soldering irons used inappropriately.

I will guarantee everyone on this forum that the anti-torture screeching done by pacifist, defeatist libs does not reflect the feelings of most of the Dems I know. I’m willing to bet that if it meant stopping a major terrorist attack, the great majority of them would say to go ahead with the torture. And I don’t mean waterboarding.

It will be if they let me conduct the *hostile interrogation.*

The ones doing the screeching are the ones most worried that it might be applied to them due to their treasonous conduct by adhering to our enemies and sometimes maintaining direct contact with them.

For the same reason, they're very concerned about the reappearance of the noose among their adversaries, not only as a symbol of lynchings in the south, but as a remedy to treason sometimes applied by the citizenry when the government is derelict in that duty.

Not at all. It really isn't the religion of Islam that's our enemy; it's the political component of Islamic Imperialism which they refer to as Sharia, that is our sworn enemy. Frequently, unknowledgable politicians and pundits call this Islamofascism but that's very much not the case; Fascism denigrates the individual to the lowest rung on the ladder, while Islam is all about the individual person and his acceptance of Muhammed's teachings that elevates him to Allah's favor. The closest thing to real Islamic Fascism that's ever existed, with real links to Hitler's National Socialism, was Iraq's Ba'th Party, put out of business probably permanently by the Us Military in March and April of 2003, somebody thank General Tommy Franks for that, will ya?

Those who wish to sit in their tents and read their holy book, tending to their women, sheep and goats as the Bedou have for centuries have my respect and admiration; may your Allah be with you. Those who would force that Religion on others are our enemies, and once defeated, should live in their societies in which they're prohibited from the possession of any metal of any kind.

When is it okay to torture a terror suspect?

Only on days of the week with a vowel in them, and only during the hours of daylight or darkness.
