Brownback to endorse McCain

Brownback to Endorse McCain By LIZ SIDOTI Associated Press Writer

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Sam Brownback, a Kansas conservative and favorite of evangelical Christians, will endorse his former Republican presidential rival John McCain, GOP officials said Wednesday.

The nod could provide a much-needed boost, particularly in Iowa, for the Arizona senator and one-time presumed GOP front-runner whose bid faltered and is now looking for a comeback.

Republican officials said Brownback will announce his support for McCain later Wednesday in Dubuque, Iowa, and then travel with the candidate to campaign in two other cities in the state. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid publicly pre-empting the announcement.

It's uncertain how much weight the Brownback's backing will carry; the Kansas senator dropped out of the race last month with little money and little support. While he is a favorite of religious conservatives, he failed to persuade them to embrace him as the GOP's consensus conservative candidate. He spent months emphasizing his rock-solid opposition to abortion, gay marriage and other issues important to the party's right flank, but left the race ranking low in national polls and state surveys.

Still, Brownback's backing could signal to evangelical Christians that they can trust McCain and could help solidify McCain's credentials on social issues. The endorsement could be especially important in Iowa, where McCain trails in polls.

Is it possible that we are under alien attack?

I mean — how can Robertson endorse Giuliani and Brownback endorse McCain all on the same day.

It’s gotta be cosmic mind rays.

This is hugh and series and I need a tin foil immediately!

Interesting that he chose McCain.

I’d have expected a guy like Brownback to endorse a fellow nanny-stater big-government faux-conservative like Huckabee.

"Sam Brownback, a Kansas conservative and favorite of evangelical Christians, will endorse his former Republican presidential rival John McCain.."

If Sam Brownback were a "conservative" we evangelical Christians from Kansas would surely know it. He isn't, and we don't.

He joined his very good friend, John McCain, along with Pres. Bush's attempt to add illegal immigrants to our citizenship rolls and we realized that those were NOT the conservative positions we held, that reason and a few others, made us realize that he isn't the conservative for us.

Orchestrated? Perhaps. There almost seems to be an effort to keep the non-Rudy vote split as evenly as possible.

It must be because of their shared open-borders policies. Of course, Brownback could have chosen Huckabee in that instance too.

I’d have expected a guy like Brownback to endorse a fellow nanny-stater big-government faux-conservative like Huckabee.

Brownback has a long history of being an economic conservative. He has wavered because of his loyalty -- big mistake -- to Bush's compassionate conservatism.

I’m a Kansas conservative and I say Brownback is very conservative. Think of him before “compassionate conservative” became a popular term. Hey, I may still have old mail to prove it. He was going to abolish this and abolish that...it was great.

Birds of a feather flock together.
Especially if the feather is “comprehensive immigration reform”
(i.e., Amnesty for law-breaking ILLEGALS)

I was so enthusiastic about Sam and his "beliefs and convictions" before his first run for the Senate. I was so enthusiastic in fact, that I worked full time in his office during the Primary and General Election.

I donated, gathered friends and threw parties to get others to donate to him. I was very proud to elect someone whom I felt to be a conservative, we conservative Christians in KS could be proud.

Once elected, he began to adopt DC views and grew further from some of his original stands and when he spoke before LaRaza summer before last declaring them to be "Americans too," he lost all my support and I told him so.

Glad to know that there are still some here who believe that destroying our schools, health services, emergency rooms, social services and small communities in favor of illegal aliens who come here for all such things, are representative of all things "conservative."
