If someone has a surface Navy ping list I don’t know about it. I usually do a quick search on the keyword “Navy” or do a title search for the same. magslinger has his Navair ping list.

And Skunk Baxter’s brainchild comes to life.

Anyone remember Skunk? He was in the Doobie Brothers, and apparently had an interest in defense policy on the side. Funny, eh? Anyway, he’s a consultant to the Department of Defense, and was one of the first people in the late 80’s to propose using the Navy’s Aegis system in ballistic missile defense. He seems to be one of those all-around genius types.

071106-N-0000X-003 KAUAI, Hawaii (Nov. 6, 2007) - A threat representative target is launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) to be intercepted as part of a Missile Defense Agency test of the sea-based capability under development. This was part of a multiple simultaneous engagement involving two ballistic missile targets that were intercepted about 250 miles from Kauai and approximately 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean. The Standard Missile-3 was one of two interceptors launched from Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) that collided with two ballistic missile targets launched from the Pacific Missile Range Test Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, within minutes of one another. this is basically a hit piece, but it does mention Aegis somewhat favorably and Skunk (pg 4)

Here's a link I remembered when you mentioned that.

Skunk Baxter, Doobie Brother, Counterterror Advisor

This part of his wiki page is noteworthy-

Despite his defense-related work, Baxter has not abandoned his music career. He continues accepting studio work; his most recent such work involved tribute albums to Pink Floyd and Aerosmith.

He also occasionally plays in The Coalition of the Willing, a band comprising Andras Simonyi, Hungarian Ambassador to the United States; Alexander Vershbow, US Ambassador to South Korea; Daniel B. Poneman, formerly of the United States National Security Council and now of The Scowcroft Group; and Lincoln Bloomfield, former United States Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs.

Now that's a band I would like to hear!

Now that would be a cool band to hear. I wonder if Gary Sinese, Lieutenant Dan, of the LT. Dan Band would think of this grand band.

Oh man, nice photo. I’ve been in a Zodiac boat right off the range where the photo was taken.

Would have been cool to see a launch from there.
