It’s reaction to Taft and GWB, I presume.

It's not. Hence my use of the term "predictably."

Could be, but the reality on the ground is there’s just a lot more Lib/Socialist/East Coast influence around here than there’s ever been before. That, and gazillions of overt, activist homos.

It’s not like Coleman hasn’t made mistakes; he’s been a joke and a total embarrassment to the city at times. But the local MSM love him so he always gets a pass.

Were these Republican seats?

Nope, all incumbents.

Up until 8 years ago, the mayor's office had been in Republican hands since the early '70s. City Council was always competitive and mixed.

Since the Colemanites got in, they've consolidated their power and now City Hall is basically a solid 'Rat fiefdom.

Oh man...I’m in the College Republicans club at OSU...we campaigned for the Republican candidates, but I kinda knew it wasn’t going to work out in the end. Columbus is not a friendly place to be if you’re a Republican, to quote one of the GOP candidates. Ohio itself is turning blue. I saw another thread about the Dem winning the governor’s race in Kentucky with 68% of the vote. Bad, bad news...I remember in 06 how depressed everyone on FR was after the Dems won control of the future 110th Congress. From the looks of things, these elections might not be too great either.

This election went bad most places. Does not bode well for 08. A few states are in danger of going blue.

No surprise, Taft and the Country Club Republicans set up this debacle a few years back.

I agree..... Taft really messed up this state and the voters are rebelling against anything that is associated with Taft. Sadly he had an R next to his name. Folks don’t realize that meant RINO. Dewine and Voinovich did not/are not helping either. Many Republicans voted to get rid of DeWine and they will vote against Voinovich next time too. We need someone to run against Voinovich in the primaries!!!!!

This is Georgie Girl’s last term, as he’s stated. Expect to see Rob Portman run for the seat, and win it.

And don’t be surprised if Portman, just a few more years down the road, doesn’t end up vying for the RNC Presidential nomination before all is said and done. He’s being groomed for it.

Strong support for Portman here!!

The dems always campaign on jobs. Strickland and Brown won with that stragety. Where are we now?

Strickland was a pleasant surprise on guns. The new Dem Attorney General is also pro-gun.

He’s a good conservative with a very bright future.

‘The dems always campaign on jobs. Strickland and Brown won with that stragety.’

Stickland won because Taft and the Ohio GOP country club Republicans were corrupt from top to bottom. And the few that were not corrupt were too chicken shit to say that was the problem, excluding Ken Blackwell, and he paid a terrible price for doing so (I’ll never forgive the Ohio GOP for Jim Petro’s overtly racist primary ads against Blackwell).

’ Where are we now?’

Waiting for the Strickland scandal related to his being in the closet, his ‘wife’ living in Lexington Kentucky, and his gay aide who our new governor likes to vacation in Europe with.

This is a one bright spot. Strickland is somewhat to the right of most Dems on the national level. This is probably why he's been touted as a possible running mate to Her Heinous if she's nominated—to "balance" their ticket so it's appealing beyond just hardcore feminazi moonbats.

Strickland is very pro-union though, and closer to traditional Dem positions economically. Which is why Ohio will continue "circling the bowl" as far as business/jobs/growth.
