When it is a tax-exempt organization that is possibly bilking the naive and committing tax fraud, which is against the law of God and man.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

Sadly, so many Freepers support Congress's effort to Trash the First Amendment.

Everything

My Bible says, "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. It is not from yourself or anything you've done, but the gift of God."

And my Bible says, “Take up your cross and follow me.” We are to die in Christ, in order to be born again. That sounds like pretty much “everything” to me.

Are they talking about members of Congress?

No, they just make the laws. They think they are above obeying them.

tax-exempt groups to get around campaign-finance restrictions and become major players in federal elections

******

Rainbow/PUSH is non-profit organization formed as a merger of two non-profit organizations — Operation PUSH (People United To Save Humanity) and the National Rainbow Coalition — founded by Jesse Jackson. The organizations pursue social justice, civil rights and political activism.

The National Rainbow coalition became a prominent political organization that raised public awareness on numerous political issues and consolidated a large voting block.

The National Rainbow Coalition (Rainbow Coalition for short) was a political organization that grew out of Jesse Jackson’s 1984 presidential campaign.

The goals of the campaign were to demand social programs, voting rights, and affirmative action for all groups that had been neglected by Reaganomics.[3] Jackson’s campaign blamed President Ronald Reagan’s policies for reduction of government spending

At the 1984 Democratic National Convention on July 18, 1984 in San Francisco, California, Jackson delivered the Keynote address, entitled “The Rainbow Coalition”.

Jackson moved from Chicago to Washington, D.C. to serve as shadow senator from 1991 to 1996.

The organization had also in 1998 admonished Freddie Mac for its lending and employment practices, which led to its pledge to earmark $1 billion in mortgage loans specifically for minorities, to donate more than $1 million directly to Rainbow/PUSH and to became a sponsor of Jackson’s annual Wall Street Project

“mandated sensitivity program” for NASCAR employees and a $250,000 transfer to Rainbow/PUSH.

Former congressman Mel Reynolds, who served a sentence in prison for sexual assault and bank fraud, is among the controversial consultants on the organization’s payroll.[8] The organization is a member of several anti-war coalitions including Win Without War, United for Peace and Justice, and After Downing Street.

February 2, 2001

Jackson has set up four organizations. Two are tax-exempt, and two are not. Millions of dollars annually pour into these concerns. Where that money goes is very difficult to figure out.

Citizenship Education Fund from 1998 and ‘99. In those years, the fund took in nearly 12 million tax-exempt dollars but paid out only $1.5 million in salaries
and wages and spent — get this — only $47,000 on education. Let me repeat that. Out of the $12 million the Citizenship Education Fund received, just $47,000 went for actual education.

Jackson’s travel expenses for the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition in 1998. He has listed $1,242,854 for travel and conference fees, but the specific charges — that is where the travel was to — are not provided.

Jackson’s finances have not been investigated for 12 years, since ‘88. The question for the IRS is: Why not?

In 1999, THE FACTOR has learned that Jesse Jackson had a huge year. He accepted the following donations: $500,000 from SBC Ameritech, $375,000 from Bell Atlantic, $625,000 from GTE, $377,000 from Viacom, and $142,000 from AT&T. There are many, many more.

CLETA MITCHELL, TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATION ATTORNEY:

When you’re dealing with the — you know, with the people’s trust, when you’re dealing with charities, you’re getting tax-exempt authority, you have to — it comes with the contract. You’ve got to do your part of the work and be
accountable, and the state government and the federal government have looked the other way, frankly, for political reasons.

Jesse Jackson’s empire

By Patrick J. Reilly
web posted April 2, 2001

Are two of Jesse Jackson’s nonprofits violating IRS rules by failing to report payments to Jackson and funneling them through his church?

Did Democratic Party payments to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition fund its partisan activities, including a 1998 voter registration drive intended to help Democrats gain control of Congress?

What did Jackson’s political action committee do with almost $7,500 in missing contributions from a Service Employees International Union affiliate? And what role does Dennis Rivera — treasurer of Keep Hope Alive PAC, co-chairman of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and president of SEIU’s New York local — play in fetching union donations for the PAC?

Last year (2001), the combined intake of his nonprofit network was more than $17 million.

The tax-exempt Citizenship Education Fund and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition spent a total of $614,419 last year for Jesse Jackson’s travels. In February, Rainbow PUSH chief financial officer Billy Owens admitted that more than $450,000 of Jackson’s travel expenses were paid by several Democratic Party committees for get-out-the-vote efforts. It is not clear what portions of the party payments went to which organizations.

A $10,000 donor to CEF was identified as the “Democratic Congress” in CEF’s 1999 report to the IRS. CEF also reported a $30,000 donation from the Democratic National Committee in 1994. The reasons for the gifts are not explained.

CEF violated the tax code if it paid for any Democratic-reimbursed travel on behalf of a candidate. That could cost CEF its tax-exempt status.

Keep Hope Alive PAC reported a $5,000 contribution from a Service Employees International Union (SEIU) affiliate made in January 2000. But SEIU’s filing with the Federal Election Commission describes a much larger donation to Keep Hope Alive: $12,450 in March 2000.

The tax-exempt CEF may not lobby or engage in political activities. But CEF and Rainbow PUSH share a web site (www.rainbowpush.org) that includes materials promoting legislation and political candidates. It is not always clear which organization is responsible for the materials.

At the end of the Carter administration, Jackson’s nonprofits received $6.5 million in grants from federal agencies, including $5.7 million to PUSH for Excellence (also called PUSH Excel).

CEF reported more than $1.3 million in consulting expenses that year, and Owens said the amount increased to $1.85 million in 2000. Of those amounts, $878,523 in 1999 and $940,529 in 2000 went to Rainbow PUSH for management and general expenses, according to Owens. It appears that Rainbow PUSH and People United, which is paid for Jackson’s work, should have been listed as independent contractors on CEF’s 1999 filing.

The Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) is the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt arm of Jesse Jackson’s political advocacy network. It was incorporated in Ohio by attorney John Bustamante in 1983. (President Clinton pardoned him for unrelated criminal offenses in January.) But CEF is headquartered at the Rainbow PUSH offices in Chicago and operates out of several Rainbow PUSH satellite offices.

Jackson Foundation

In 1989, Jesse Jackson’s family established the Jackson Foundation in Chicago, headquartered in the same South Constance Avenue office as the family’s for-profit companies. The board of the tax-exempt private foundation is chaired by Jesse’s wife, Jacqueline, and includes their children Jacqueline, Jonathan, Santita and Yusef.

Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. Productions was incorporated in Delaware in 1989. Its founding president was Jesse Jackson, but Illinois records identify his wife, Jacqueline, as the current president and their son Jonathan as the company’s secretary. The company’s purpose is described as “the creation, development, production and distribution of television, audio video and printed product.”

Jacqueline Inc., also called Jacqueline Services, was also incorporated in Delaware in 1989. The company’s president is Jonathan Jackson, and Rainbow PUSH board member Allene Walker is the company’s secretary. Jacqueline, Inc. collects Jesse Jackson’s public speaking fees — $150,000 last year, according to the Washington Times.

A third company, now defunct, was led by Jesse Jackson’ wife, Jacqueline. Personalities International, which operated from 1986 to 1992, was billed as a speaker’s bureau. Disclosure forms for Jackson’s 1988 presidential campaign said he earned $192,090 in 1987 from the company.

Operation PUSH

Operation PUSH was founded in 1971 but did not incorporate in Illinois until 1977. Although it was registered as a nonprofit organization, Operation PUSH never sought tax-exempt status from the IRS.

Perhaps this investigation is happening because as soon as Hillary is sworn in as our new president, she plans to remove ‘tax exempt’ status from all religious institutions. She’ll cite ‘separation of church/state’ plus the facts of this investigation. It will be her “gays in the military” moment.

Yep, Lyndon B. Johnson dream of putting Churches under the power of the federal government will finally be reached as Freepers cheer on the effort.

This is scary unbelievable.

The Congress, led by a Republican, is going after Churches, if they succeed at this brazen money grab, do you all really think they will stop there? Do you really think they will respect your Churches acceptance of Scripture?

Do you really want the Government to determine which Church follows correct scripture and which church does not?

Have you all lost your mind?

Mike Huckabee just delivered a sermon, at North Spartanburg First Baptist Church less than one week before an election, the services are TELEVISED.

Does that not run afoul of the law? Will the FCC demand equal time be given to all candidates? Will that not open up the Churches to further scrutiny? Do you think that this McCain Fiengold Congress will let that slide?

Have you all lost your mind?

Yep, the fact that a so-called Republican is leading the effort and being cheered on by so-called conservatives spells the end of the First Amendment. The tax-exempt status of churches was not derived from the tax code, but from the founding principles of this country.
