In previous months we used to spend hours at MyManMitt calculating all of the endorsements that a candidate picks up. Thank goodness we can give this job up to someone else now!
Chris Cillizza reports on the
new feature at WashingtonPost.com logging the endorsements of State Legislators.
Here are the grunt numbers for the GOP side of things in the early primaries (they gave us the numbers - we built the chart)

Here are the numbers:

Endorsements are local events and as we get closer to the election we will probably see a lot of these names chiming in for another plug for their candidate. Who knows -- the serious SC edge for McCain might make him a contender again :)
Cillizza has this to say about endorsements:
Support from elected officials in Iowa, New Hampshire etc. is crucial -- not only does each member bring a political power base of his or her own, but they also serve as important validators for their preferred candidate within a community they know (and knows them) best.
Labels: Endorsement
TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: 2008; 2008endorsements; clinton; elections; endorsements; fred; giuliani; huckabee; legislators; mccain; romney; rudy; thompson
Romney is second only to Hillary Clinton in total endorsements. Very interesting. The only candidate anywhere close to their endorsement totals is John McCain and he's running on empty at best. This really is going to come down to who wants it the most and Mitt Romney has been the only candidate on our side so far who has shown the desire, organization, enthusiasm and hustle needed to win it all.

I tend to trust the least, those who are endorsed the most.
It’s quality, not quantity.

I tend to trust the least, those who are endorsed the most. Its quality, not quantity. ...says the guy who supports a candidate with very few endorsements. Obvious.
Quality? How about a guy some call the father of the pro-life movement. The guy who helped found the nation's premiere pro-life organization. Dr. John Willke, a major pro-life leader, has endorsed Mitt Romney. That's a quality endorsement.
Your turn. Which major pro-life leader of that stature has endorsed your candidate?
How about America's best known Sheriff. A guy who conservatives consider to be a hero. A tough, no-nonsense Sheriff who's law enforcement and criminal punishment methods are known worldwide. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has endorsed Mitt Romney. That's a quality endorsement too.
Your turn. Which law enforcement endorsement of your candidates matches that one?

Mittie can buy all the straw polls, pour millions into the coffers of the MSM, and do his snoopy like spin dance, al he wants. It doesn't chage his history, or the facts...
Mitt Romney.
The man. The myth.
The multiple personalities.
He'll always be Sybil to me.

I think that any elected official who endorses Mitt Romney, the most liberal Governor in America’s history, should be targeted for replacement.

LOL...
Mitt Romney managed to be more conservative in Massachusetts than our own Governor here in Texas, Rick Perry. Well, now the ‘conservative’ Rick Perry has endorsed Rudy Guiliani.
Please, there are plenty more liberal Govs, and some of them of course GOP Govs (like Arnold S.) I’d take Romney over our Gov for sure.
Btw, Jim DeMint is still a great conservative Senator, even if he did endorse Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney is the biggest liar in American politics today - by a thousand miles. And that takes some doing.
His supporters are either the most naive folks alive, completely deluded, or mega-liars like their candidate.

Get it through your head. People like me will work just as hard against Romney as we will against Clinton. There’s no difference, other than the fact that Romney has been more successful than the Hildebeast at actually implementing the Left’s agenda.

Another outright lie! Really? Hillary has implemented gay marriage, socialized medicine with taxpayer funded abortions, the homosexualization of the public schools, and signed a permenent assault weapons ban? Prove it.

Mitt medical perspective is completely off, and while it started off with good intentions...it came-out really bad, and he still supported it. He still supports it.
Better nothing, then nothing good. Most of the other Republicans understand the issue a bit better. Actually Duncan in an interview explained the issue very well...unfortunately I haven’t seen much elaboration on this issue from anybody.
It’s such a winner issue for the right if they sell it.
Even GWB is fairly good on this issue, but the man couldn’t sell a hooker in jail. He’s not a bad man, he just isn’t good at selling anything...even if it is good for America.
