Ali al-Timimi will be serving life for sedition. Specifically he was recruiting for al-Qaeda from the US. Scary enough, but read the whole article. It appears al-Qaeda had infiltrated US biodefense and has supporters/agents with access to the Ames strain of anthrax and the know how to make dried concentrated forms of the spores.

The fact no one wants to admit is that al-Qaeda had managed to get inside.
I just happened across this this morning. The article is long but a couple of points that struck me were that al-Timimi had access to the area and there were complaints of lax security in the area where virulent strains were kept for patent reference purposes. The Washington Post, in an article “Hardball Tactics in an Era of Threats,” dated September 3, 2006 summarized events relating to George Mason University microbiology graduate student Ali Al-Timimi. The well-spoken Al-Timimi had rock star status in Salafist circles. He lectured in July 2001 (in Toronto) and August 2001 (in London) on the coming “end of times” and signs of the coming day of judgment. He spoke alongside officials of a charity, Islamic Assembly of North America (”IANA”) promoting the views of Bin Laden’s sheiks. Another speaker was Ali’s mentor, Bilal Philips, an unindicted WTC 1993 conspirator (among about 170 others). Bilal Philips worked in the early 1990s to recruit US servicemen. Dr. Philips has explained the Saudi-funded program in magazine interviews.
The Washington Post explained last Fall:
‘In late 2002, the FBI’s Washington field office received two similar tips from local Muslims: Timimi was running ‘an Islamic group known as the Dar al-Arqam’ that had ‘conducted military-style training,’ FBI special agent John Wyman would later write in an affidavit.
Wyman and another agent, Wade Ammerman, pounced on the tips. Searching the Internet, they found a speech by Timimi celebrating the crash of the space shuttle Columbia in 2003, according to the affidavit. The agents also found that Timimi was in contact with Sheikh Safar al-Hawali, a Saudi whose anti-Western speeches in the early 1990s had helped inspire bin Laden.
The agents reached an alarming conclusion: ‘Timimi is an Islamist supporter of Bin Laden’ who was leading a group ‘training for jihad,’ the agent wrote in the affidavit. The FBI even came to speculate that Timimi, a doctoral candidate pursuing cancer gene research, might have been involved in the anthrax attacks.
On a frigid day in February 2003, the FBI searched Timimi’s brick townhouse on Meadow Field Court, a cul-de-sac near Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax. Among the items they were seeking, according to court testimony: material on weapons of mass destruction.”
According to witness testimony in the prosecution of the Virginia Paintball Defendants, after September 11, 2001, “Al-Timimi stated that the attacks may not be Islamically permissible, but that they were not a tragedy, because they were brought on by American foreign policy.” The FBI first contacted Timimi shortly after 9/11. He met with FBI agents 7 or 8 times in the months leading up to his arrest. Al-Timimi is a US citizen born in Washington DC. His house was searched, his passport taken and his telephone monitored. Ali Al Timimi defended his PhD thesis in computational biology shortly after his indictment for recruiting young men to fight the US.
Some of his communications in 2002 with dissident Saudi sheik Sheik Safar al-Hawali, one of the two fundamentalist sheikhs who were friends and mentors of Bin Laden, were intercepted. The two radical sheiks had been imprisoned from September 1994 to June 1999. Al-Hawali’s detention was expressly the subject of Al Qaeda’s claim of responsibility for Bin Laden’s 1996 Declaration of War against the United States and the 1998 embassy bombings.
Upon his indictment, in September 2004, al-Timimi explained he had been offered a plea bargain of 14 years, but he declined. He quoted Sayyid Qutb. He said he remembered “reading his books and loving his teaching” as a child, and that Qutb’s teaching was prevented from signing something that was false by “the finger that bears witness.” He noted that he and his lawyers asked that authorities hold off the indictment until he had received his PhD, but said that unfortunately they did not wait.
The indictment against the paintball defendants alleged that at an Alexandria, Virginia residence, in the presence of a representative of BIF, the defendants watched videos depicting Mujahadeen engaged in Jihad and discussed a training camp in Bosnia. His defense lawyer says that the FBI searched the townhouse of “to connect him to the 9/11 attacks or to schemes to unleash a biological or nuclear attack.” Famed head of the former Russian bioweaponeering program Ken Alibek told me that he would occasionally see him in the hallways at George Mason, where they both were in the microbiology department, and was vaguely aware that he was an islamic hardliner.

Here's the bad news: six years after 9/11 and the anthrax attacks, our so-called government is allowing more of his kind of ilk into our country every day with hardly a care in the world from the looks of it.

The Anthrax attacks after 9/11 have never been properly addressed or explained to the American public. From the first death in Florida, of a man who worked a few blocks from where Mohammed Atta was living, to the subsequent attacks out of New Jersey, very little has been disclosed.
Instead, an FBI smokescreen was generated about some 'former-disgruntled-employee' of some germ lab somewhere (shades of Richard Jewell). Then some pond or lake was drained. Then ... nothing!
The few facts that did come out, i.e., the Weaponized-Anthrax strain used was of the Ames Strain, and Iraq, with many others, had access to it - only got reported as an afterthought, buried in the back of the newspapers.
Remember that some muzzies were trying to get flying lessons for cropdusters in the USA, and that only a small amount of Anthrax has been used so far. Now connect the dots between Florida and New Jersey. We seem to be missing the Anthrax that goes into the cropduster(s), and it's probably somewhere in the USA now!.
There is a muzzie now in our custody somewhere, who knows all about the Anthrax! An old-fashioned gasoline blow-torch and a pair of pliers are in order ...................................... FRegards

After reading the FR article about Saddam’s love of baby wipes, and while riding in my truck wiping my hands with baby wipes after shopping(!) - I was thinking, maybe there WAS A REAL GOOD REASON why Saddam was a germophobe.
I’m serious. We were snooping around everywhere and coming back to him I’m sure with more questions. “What are these files about? We found them in Building 612 of the Darupa Facility?”
“Don’t you fear my pretties” Pelosi, Reid, Hillary, Kerry, Murtha and all the rest of the DC Liberal traitors will protect you “NOT.” Your lives, your security, your freedom, your future and the future of your children and grandchildren, are of no consequence to these power-hungry Liberal/Marxist. IMO, to a Liberal, the end justifies the means in every way in every instance. When was the "Afterword" written? According to one of the authors, William Broad, the book "Germs" was published on September 1, 2001, and Amazon.com first listed it on September 11, 2001. Other sources say it was published on September 10, 2001.
I've exchanged many emails with both Bill Broad and Judy Miller. I seriously doubt that either of them currently believes that anyone connected to the 9/11 hijackers sent the anthrax letters. Any "Afterward" written between September 11 and October 15, 2001, would probably assume that al Qaeda was behind the letters. That's what virtually everyone thought before we started learning the facts about the letters.
For what it's worth, I read "Germs" and made a comment about it on November 13, 2005, when I pointed out some errors in the book.
I think it's important to understand that the farther back you go to the days immediately following 9/11, the more likely the information you'll find is tainted and distorted by mistaken beliefs and pure speculation. It takes awhile for facts, beliefs and speculation to get sorted out.
I have the paperback ....2002 edition....afterword is new...it says on the cover...and is dated June 6, 2002 ....see page 341....
In May 2005, I spoke to Judy Miller and emailed her about the documents here. Besides noting I could have given exclusively to the NYT (but didn’t), she never expressed any doubt in her view that US-based operatives supporting the Salafists were responsible. But it’s now 2 1/2 years later and so someone should ask her. (Journalists are not in the business of expressing their view but instead just writing up news; so it’s not like I was probing her opinion). Her view would be especially interesting, though, because Scooter Libby allegedly was preoccupied in July or August 2003 about anthrax being smuggled into the country by AQ operatives (and she had met him twice). And, of course, she has lots of contacts, such as at DIA.

Since this interview, there was, for example, Suskind’s report that extremely virulent anthrax was found (from before 9/11) in Kandahar, and various other dramatic news reports relating to Al Qaeda and anthrax (such as the Afghan governor who reported the seizure of anthrax in packets for mailing to government officials in a press conference)
MILLER; I know. No. I think just because I’m pretty persistent and dogged about covering issues and stories that I think are of interest and importance to the American people. I mean, I was concerned about al Qaeda long before it became fashionable in Washington to be worried about it. My colleague Jeff Gerth and I wrote the first long serious piece about al Qaeda for the “New York Times” back in the mid-’60s (sic). And then, of course, there was the wonderful series that I was a participant in that won the Pulitzer Prize in January 2001 for our series, “Three Parts on al Qaeda,” the threat it posed to the United States.
So, yes, I care passionately about threats to this country internal and external, and I work hard to make sure they get into the paper. And I guess that means that I’m an aggressive, pushy reporter. Guilty, as Bill Safire said, I’m not sometimes Ms. Congeniality.
I don’t think I’m quite the kind of terror that people said I am, but I guess I can get pretty persistent when I think a story is worth pursuing.

We have to be concerned about WMD threats and terrorist threats to our cities. Look at what’s happened in London. The night I went to jail, Larry, the night I was in jail I woke up to the sound of the sirens in London and the dreadful subway bombings, and I thought oh my gosh, the same thing could happen in New York.
It has to flash through your mind if you’re a New Yorker or you live in Los Angeles or any major city. We are vulnerable and though a great deal has been done to try and make it safer, I think Katrina, the disaster, the natural disaster showed us how unprepared we remain. I think all Americans should be concerned about that. I certainly am.
