Maryville PD: Woman's rape story is bogus

MARYVILLE - A woman who told authorities she was raped Sunday night near a strip mall on U.S. Highway 411South has admitted the story is bogus and said she fabricated the attack account because she was depressed and wanted attention.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp announced the developments at a press briefing Wednesday afternoon and added that the woman admitted that her injuries - several lacerations and a broken nose - were intentionally self-inflicted.

Crisp identified the woman as Tiffany Ranee O'Connor, 28, of Maryville. O'Connor has been charged with filing a false police report, a Class D felony. She is in the Blount County Detention Facility on $1,000 bond and will face a Blount County General Sessions Court judge at 9 a.m. Nov. 2, Crisp said.

O'Connor called officers to a residence on Arrowhead Drive at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Crisp said, to report she had been raped by a man who had pulled her vehicle over on Highway 411 by placing a blue light on his dash. She said she had pulled onto Cherokee Heights and stopped behind some businesses there and that the man, wearing a knit mask and latex gloves, reached into her car, grabbed her hair and forced her into his car, where he raped her.

Crisp said his department did "a thorough investigation" and found "inconsistencies" in what she told them.

"There were holes in her story," he said, adding that investigators used enhanced video of the woman shopping earlier to help solve the case.

O'Connor, who Crisp said is married, apparently inflicted lacerations and broke her own nose prior to reporting the rape. He said he did not know how she broke her nose.

O'Connor has a past police record, Crisp said, for nonviolent property crimes.

There was a report of a rape in a “haunted house” in Kansas City.

The owners of the business claim that the accusation is bogus. We’ll have to see how it shakes out.

I can see maybe where people would ignore screams for help in such a place.

She should go to jail for as long as the penalty for rape. This is what radical feminazism has given us.

We need to hammer hard women who make up false rape stories. First, it makes people more skeptical of rape allegations when bogus cases aren’t punished severely. Second it makes it out to be ‘not that bad’ to file false rape cases and that if you cry and claim you’re depressed, you don’t have to pay to what you’ve done to society and more importantly, the smear you taint the genuine rape cases with by your bogus phony stories. Third, these kind of stories can destroy men’s lives when a certain man or men are tagged by a woman. Women who make up these false stories need to be severely punished by large fines and jail time. It will make it much less an appealing thing to do when you want to deliberately destroy a man or because you want attention ‘cuz you’re depressed.

Drink some wine if you’re depressed. Do what the rest of us do. Pick up a hobby.

At least she was. What makes me angry is that some woman who may be a real victim of this crime may be less likely to come forward about it because she’ll feel like noone will believe her.

Not sure if you’re being funny or not, I kind of see the pun here. I think they should have a large fine to pay, and some jail time. I think the fine should be the same for everyone, and the jail time within a set range of time depending on a number of factors (I believe some may deserve more time than others, on a case by case basis, but I would say jail time between 3 months and 1 year). Minimum security. If they repeat it later on, larger fines and longer times in jail.

There should be a charge for this though. A man’s life could be ruined.
