Gore's Inconvenient 9/11 Truth
American Thinker ^ | October 18, 2007 | Denis Keohane

Posted on 10/19/2007 9:32:19 PM PDT by neverdem

Nobel laureate Al Gore, we are to believe, has the technical acumen to analyze complex data, assess risks, and identify the right countermeasures. He must be able to critically sift through mountains of data, distinguish between reliable and unreliable climate models, and astutely analyze volumes of esoteric scientific reports and studies to determine with something like crystal clarity what will most assuredly happen in the future. On an ongoing basis, as new data comes in.

He can also supposedly identify what specific variables we can and should manipulate now, so as to favorably change the outcome of countless diverse interactions of innumerable variables for an assured and beneficial outcome. He can recognize cumulative risks, threats emerging from the interplay of known risks. He can do this so well that he can simply brush aside any criticism of any of his conclusions as being unscientific or tainted by corruption.

How else could the world rely on his assessment of the dangers we face and the actions we must take?

His track record when asked to evaluate emerging threats from the interplay of known perils is not encouraging.

In August 1996, President Clinton signed Executive Order 13015, which established the "White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security", often called the Gore Commission in recognition that Gore was the chairman. That commission operated for six months, from August 1996 until February of 1997, when it issued its final report. Gore's commission were mandated to provide to the President "a strategy designed to improve aviation safety and security". As was expected, the Gore Commission addressed the issue of terrorism and commercial aviation.

Hindsight is everyone's best sight. Terrorists had been hijacking airplanes, destroying or plotting to destroy airliners, committing numerous acts of terror suicide,  and using vehicles to deliver both the terrorist and the explosives to lethal proximity of their targets for years. Heavily fueled commercial airliners as devices of suicide attack seemed an obviously predictable development. In retrospect. Foresight failed us because we gave insufficient thought to how terrorists might attack.

When sufficient attention is paid, it is quite possible to engineer-in safety. Engineers and scientists routinely design safety into systems, equipment, machines and procedures by precisely understanding the potential interaction of variables that have known properties or characteristics. Underwriters Laboratories, with whom I've worked, does this exceedingly well. While they will physically test devices to determine potential safety hazards, quite often their engineers will recommend a redesign of something based simply on recognizing a potentially dangerous interaction of variables with such known characteristics.

Considering such possibilities follows the act of deciding to think about such issues and then constructing possibilities. That is precisely what Al Gore and his Commission were tasked to do regarding commercial aviation. They were given the time and resources to do so by that Executive Order. According to the 911 Commission Report (page 344):

"The Gore Commission's Report, having thoroughly canvassed available expertise in and outside of government, did not mention suicide hijackings or the use of aircraft as weapons." [emphasis added]
Yet reading the final report of Gore's Commission, most of the variables were explicitly recognized but not plugged into a potential safety-engineering process. From Chapter 3 of the report:
"[Terrorism] is no longer just an overseas threat.... People and places in the United States have joined the list of targets.... The bombings of the World Trade Center in New York and the Federal Building in Oklahoma City are clear examples of the shift, as is the conviction of Ramzi Yousef for attempting to bomb twelve American airliners out of the sky... some [terrorists] are not afraid to die in carrying out their designs... they know that airlines are often seen as national symbols. When terrorists attack an American airliner, they are attacking the United States."
Note that the report explicitly identifies targeting the U.S. homeland and American aviation, willingness to commit suicide in a terror attack, and attacks on national symbols.

The 911 Commission Report (page 392) states that more than half of the 911 hijackers were identified by CAPPS (Computer Assisted Passenger Presecreening System) as potential security risks to be subjected to a higher level of screening. The CAPPS system was mandated by the FAA in 1998 as a direct result of the Gore Commission finding that the most significant threat to commercial aviation was from bombs smuggled on the aircraft. The only effect the CAPPS identification had was that the 911 hijackers identified for further security screening were kept off the plane until their checked baggage was loaded on the aircraft. The thinking behind this was that terrorists would use the ticketing and check-in procedures, even going through security checkpoints, to assure that their checked baggage carrying a bomb went on the plane, but that they would not get on the plane. If the passenger held back from boarding until his baggage was on board then boarded the plane, the assumption was that the flight was safe from bombing. After all, if that passenger had smuggled a bomb aboard in his luggage that would go off in flight with him on the plane, that would be suicide, and therefore he wouldn't board!

From page 84 of the 911 Commission Report:

"Primarily because of concern regarding potential discrimination and the impact on passenger throughput, "selectees"[by CAPPS] were no longer required to undergo extraordinary screening of their carry-on baggage.... This policy reflected the perception that non-suicidal sabotage was the primary threat to civil aviation" [emphasis added]
Page 83 of the 911 CR states that the Gore Commission:
"...reinforced the prevailing concern about sabotage and explosives on aircraft.... Its 1997 final report did not discuss the possibility of suicide hijackings." [emphasis added]
Also see pages 1-4.

At page 392 of the 911 CR:
"More than half [of the 911 hijackers] were identified for further inspection, which applied only to their checked luggage." [emphasis added]
Carry-on bags were not checked. If as is suspected, the hijackers had materials to make fake bombs (911 CR, page 13) to scare the passengers into submission, search of carry on bags may have revealed those items and heightened suspicion and scrutiny. In calling for the establishment of a passenger screening system which became CAPPS, the Gore Commission reported:
"Factors to be considered for elements of the profile should be based on measurable, verifiable data indicating that the factors chosen are reasonable predictors of risk, not stereotypes or generalizations. Efforts should be made to avoid using characteristics that impose a disproportionate burden of inconvenience, embarrassment, or invasion of privacy of members of minority racial, religious or ethnic groups." [emphasis added]
On August 7, 1998, the year after the Gore Commission Report was released, Al Qaeda suicide bombers, driving vehicles to get to their targets, bombed the U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. 264 people were killed. Four months later, according to the 911 CR (page 128), President Clinton received a Presidential Daily Briefing:
"...warning of information received about Al Qaeda plans to attack the U.S. and hijack airliners."
VP Gore was an executive with executive responsibilities. He was, or should have been aware of the policies and procedures that had come into effect as a result of his commission's report. By the end of 1998, it was abundantly clear that we were under attack by Al Qaeda, and that they were using suicide attackers. He knew they had previously targeted aviation (Bojinka).

If Gore was the close advisor and involved VP to President Clinton that he has claimed, he must have been advised of the Al Qaeda threat to attack the homeland and American aviation. He had the responsibility to revisit the policies and procedures he himself had set in place through his commission, knowing that federal agencies would take their guidance from such, in the light of variables that had become or should have become more prominent. There is no record that he ever did so.

The Gore Commission's report stated:
"After many months of deliberations we have agreed on a set of recommendations which we believe will serve to enhance and ensure the continued safety and security of our air transportation system."
Al Gore wants us to believe that he is analytically precise, will identify and weigh all relevant factors, can determine future consequences either good or ill by the study and understanding of complex data and innumerable variables.

He had an opportunity and responsibility once, on a matter far less complex than global climate change but with more immediate threat of danger. His performance was less than stellar. He has not spoken much at all about the 911 attacks other than to spread defamatory lies, about America while in Saudi Arabia.

Gore has now been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which has been given twice this decade as a sort of consolation prize to incompetent Democrats mired in grand delusions of their own greatness.

“He must be able to critically sift through mountains of data, distinguish between reliable and unreliable climate models, and astutely analyze volumes of esoteric scientific reports and studies to determine with something like crystal clarity what will most assuredly happen in the future.”

I think we ought to look for examples Albert Arnold’s judgement and professed concern for the very survival of the planet, not to mention it’s inhabitants.

Beside Vice President Gore’s ‘ice tea memory’ and temple fundraising/outreach, how about something that has a direct bearing on our present face-off with Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan and China. It doesn’t get as much coverage of Britney Spears or The Girls Next Door, but our Nobel Peace winning Albert Arnold was a real good negotiator, especially when it’s negotiated in ‘secret’, even if it violated HIS OWN LAW:-)

Gore Alleged to Have Violated Law He Authored
Senate to Probe Vice President’s
Secret Deals on Russian Arms to Iran
On Wednesday, October 25, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will begin hearings to probe recent press reports that Vice President Al Gore and then Russian Prime Minister Victor Chernomyrdin made a secret agreement five years ago in which the Vice President promised that the Clinton Administration would not enforce a U.S. law requiring sanctions for Russian weapons sales to Iran. That agreement has all the hallmarks of a secret treaty, although it was never submitted to the Senate. At the minimum, the secret deal constitutes an international agreement which should have been submitted pursuant to the Case-Zablocki Act (1 U.S.C. 112b), which requires the Secretary of State to transmit to Congress the text of all international agreements, other than treaties, within 60 days after such agreements enter into force.
To date, the Clinton-Gore Administration has refused Congressional requests to submit documents related to the deal; yet portions of one important document, a 12-page agreement signed by Gore and Chernomyrdin in which the Vice President commits the United States to “avoid any penalties to Russia that might otherwise arise under domestic law,” appeared in the October 17, 2000, edition of the Washington Times. The final paragraph of this document reads, “This aide memoire, as well as the attached annexes, will remain strictly confidential.”
New York Times Breaks Story
The secret Gore-Chernomyrdin agreement, and the Clinton-Gore Administration’s promise not to implement U.S. laws requiring sanctions for Russian weapons proliferation to Iran, was first reported in the New York Times on October 13, 2000:
“The 1995 agreement allowed Moscow to fulfill existing sales contracts for specified weaponry, including a diesel submarine, torpedoes, anti-ship mines and hundreds of tanks and armored personnel carriers. But no other weapons were to be sold to Iran, and all shipments were to have been completed by last December 31.
“In exchange for the Russian promises, the United States pledged not to seek penalties against Russia under a 1992 law that requires sanctions against countries that sell advanced weaponry to countries the State Department classifies as state sponsors of terrorism. Iran is on that list.”
The law referenced above is the 1992 Iran-Iraq Non-Proliferation Act (P.L. 102-484), sponsored by then Senator Al Gore, along with Senator John McCain. This law requires the President to impose sanctions on countries that sell advanced weaponry or assist in nuclear weapons programs in countries sponsoring terrorism. Russian cooperation with Iran’s nuclear program was a major concern behind enactment of that legislation.
Transfer of Equipment Meets Threshold for Sanctions
Pursuant to the 1995 agreement, the Clinton-Gore Administration would appear to have acquiesced in the transfer to Iran of sophisticated Russian weaponry. Specifically, Iran has taken delivery of advanced combat aircraft and T-72 main battle tanks. Further, Russia has allegedly transferred a variety of surface-to-air missiles, including shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles which are akin to Stingers. Most significantly, Russia has supplied three KILO-class diesel submarines to Iran, together with advanced “wake-homing” torpedoes and anti-ship mines. The White House has tried to downplay the impact of the Vice President’s deal with Victor Chernomyrdin by arguing that the weaponry transferred was “antiquated.”
However, according to most naval experts, KILO-class submarines are anything but antiquated. The submarines sold to Iran are difficult to detect and track in the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf because they generate very little noise when operating on battery power. In event of a crisis, Iran’s KILO-class submarines would pose a threat to U.S. forces, allied vessels, and merchant traffic. Because Iran is also acquiring surface-to-air missiles and anti-ship cruise missiles from Russia and China, U.S. anti-submarine warfare assets would find their ability to operate against the KILO-class submarines heavily circumscribed during the initial phases of a crisis. Thus, Russia has provided Iran with a significant military capability which poses a direct threat to U.S. ships in the region. As such, these transfers meet the threshold for sanctions under the so-called Gore-McCain Act.
Even Secretary of State Admits Sanctions Should Have Been Imposed
Recently, a spokesman for the Vice President defended Gore’s actions, claiming that “none of the weapons included in the agreement met the standard for triggering sanctions under the Gore-McCain law.” But Secretary of State Madeleine Albright clearly has a different opinion. In a secret letter uncovered by the Washington Times, and sent last January to Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, the Secretary of State admitted, “Without the aide memoire, Russia’s conventional arms sales to Iran would have been subject to sanctions based on various provisions of our laws” [10/18/00]. Secretary Albright’s comments seem to indicate a clear commitment was given by the Vice President to ignore domestic sanctions laws.
Secret Agreement May Also Involve Nuclear Cooperation with Iran
Vice President Gore’s meetings with Chernomyrdin also may have involved Russia’s nuclear transactions with Iran. Classified documents obtained recently by the Washington Times contained a December 9, 1995, letter written by Mr. Chernomydrin to Vice President Gore with details on Russia’s deal with Iran to build a nuclear reactor. The Russian prime minister downplays the likelihood that Russian assistance to Iran’s nuclear program would assist Tehran’s radical anti-American regime — a sponsor of terrorism designated by the U.S. State Department — to achieve a nuclear weapons capability, and insists such information be kept from Congress:
“ ‘The information that we are passing on to you is not to be conveyed to third parties, including the U.S. Congress,’ Mr. Chernomyrdin said. ‘Open information concerning our cooperation with Iran is obviously a different matter, and we do not object to the constructive use of such information. I am counting on your understanding.’ “ [Washington Times, 10/17/00]
The secret arrangements between Mr. Gore and Mr. Chernomyrdin mostly took place in the context of a channel of communication known as the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission, which began in 1993 and was conducted in twice-yearly meetings until Mr. Chernomyrdin was removed by former Russian president Boris Yeltsin in 1998. This channel appears to have served as a conduit for information and pledges regarding Russia’s proliferation behavior that were never disclosed to Congress despite a variety of U.S. laws.
Agreements Contradict Gore’s Stand on Proliferation
The secret agreements between Gore and Chernomyrdin contradict Clinton’s and Gore’s concerns that, “We need an administration that will produce action, not just promises, to stop the spread of dangerous missiles in the Middle East. We need a strong international effort and tough sanctions to keep weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of tyrants like those in Iran, Iraq, Libya and Syria” [Putting People First: How We Can All Change America, 1992, p. 125].

Furthermore:

-toward the end of their administration, Gore and Clinton pressed the issue and spend billions to wire schools for the internet despite the real computer experts saying, : “Excuse me but wireless network technology is here and soon will be widely used and so hard wiring is not necessary” - “ Hello? Hello? Listen to us! You need not spend that kind of money on wiring schools! Hello? Leading experts in the field here- Listen to me”

Promptly ignored…
And the same pattern follows with global warming

The author is making a ridiculous argument. That is, (egoist) Al Gore, like Yasar Arafat, won the Nobel Peace Prize - not in Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, or Economics.

In short, what the author should have done is argue how Gore's topic of "global warming" is not a current major issue in terms of Global Peace and thus irrelevant in the context of winning a Nobel Peace Prize.

I can do that, easily.

Gore's premise that climate change will increase the strains on international relations is incorrect.

Warming of the earth results in longer growing seasons, additional food yields, hence less pressure on populations stricken with famine and hunger.

Additonal food yields will produce more possibilities for alternative fuels such as ethanol from various sources, reducing our dependence on oil.....again reducing the international stresses that lead to war.

Therefore, global warming is good for peace and stopping it will promte war.

Why, what was in it for him? Russia donating to his Presidential campaign? There has got to be something in it for him to override sanctions with his name on it. And why didn't McCain start shouting from the rooftops, since he was running for Pres too??

Precisely...

Billy Clinton is another example. Had people not voted for him once, let alone twice, despite the evidence of his immoral character and ruthless gangster type control of things, he would have eventually shriveled away into nothing.

The voters released the monster and provided the cover for it's growth.

Al Gore is NOT the problem. It’s his followers that are.

Gore has no followers, he is a follower. He follows the dictates of international Communism and works in concert with others with the same goal, socialism morphing into full blown Communism.

Global warming is the vehicle to control business activity. National Health Care is the vehicle for controlling individuals. Trial lawyers control our freedom by limiting the things people and companies are willing to do. Add to that the labor unions who help the others fund the Democrat Party and the media working as their propaganda arm and they have a pretty neat set up.

That is why it is important that all Americans become as diligent as freepers in this fight for our country.
