I'm not sure whether to laugh out loud or get upset.

I'll just laugh life is to short.

Walmart’s retail analysts have a better finger on the health of America’s economy than all of the overpaid Wall Street economists combined. I think a recession hits next year when the housing bubble slam really take effect and $100-$125 oil plus the spring gas switchover gives us $4 gas. It’s going to be on the news every night all summer and fall before the election.

That being said, all of these people live in very expensive urban areas and either rely on the government or are stuck in underpaying jobs by their own actions.

Peanut butter and pasta aint so bad. Go to North Korea where they eat dead pets and bark, or to Sudan, Chad, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe or Somalia where they have very little food and a lot of fighting genocide see if you have it tough.

Yep, it’s tough living paycheck to paycheck. I mean there is the plasma TV payment, the cable bill, the cell phone bills, the payments on two cars....etc.....

"Living paycheck to paycheck gets harder"

Yeah, That kinda happens when you keep raising taxes over and over and over and over and over and..................... well you get the picture.

Yup, that's what happens. I wonder what the solution could be?

I think that every leftist who thinks government should do something about this should be forced to adopt a family and support them for life.

Who the hell buys their groceries at 7-11? They jack the prices up like crazy! Store brand items are what I stock up with when I can. I’ve found that the Walmart Grocery Stores are the cheapest.

Quick quiz: What word is missing from this article on financial hardships for the working poor?

Three letters, beginning with “t” and ending with “x.”

Somehow the bleeding hearts of the people who write stories like this stop bleeding when it comes to the tremendous burden that local, state, and federal taxes put on the working poor, EITC or no EITC.

I just want to know why is this a barf alert??? It’s true the cost of living has gone through the roof. I have to pay an $800 electric bill, it’s disgusting. Please don’t give conservatives a bad name by sounding arrogant.

“Americans are increasingly unable to stretch their dollars to the next payday as they juggle higher rent, food and energy bills.”

I knew there was something missing from this sentence and I just figured it out. TAXES,TAXES ARE MISSING !!!

All I know is this: just did our household budget for next year, and IMO anyone who actually believes that inflation - at least as it affects typical middle-income households - is actually running 2-3% a year belongs in a sheltered care facility for their own protection.

And I'm sure that it's even tougher for a family trying to live on one $30K income.

I AM POOR, I AM POOR, I HAVE ONLY 3 TV SETS, A CAR FOR ME, MY WIFE AND 2 CARS FOR THE KIDS. THE GAS PRICE IS KILLING ME. OF COURSE WIFE AND ME ARE WORKING....WE HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING ENDS MEET!!! Well la de da....a lot of us had to scrape by. We made $280.00 a month, yes, it was awhile ago, but the prices were comparable to the wage and prices of today, a bit more than we were able to afford. We planted a garden, we didn’t have a tv, we didn’t have but one car, (an older model) we were military, we did have the commissary, but the prices were 6 months behind local prices, (local was cheaper, sometimes, do the poor of today know how many ways to fix hamburger and chicken, hot dogs?) we got by and were able to save for the future. So now we hear of these poor ones, who are just griping because the government isn’t giving them enough welfare. Well people, life is sometime full of llama pellets. Get off your duffs and do something for yourselves. Plant a garden, get rid of a couple of your tvs, cell phones, a car, a dvd player, you’d be surprised how well you can do for yourselves. That’s right, I do have a couple of tvs, (one in the kitchen, (so I can watch TX A&M & Cowboy football)no cell phones, I still have a garden and now that we are retired, we do quite well, but the way is planning and keeping to the plan. Mother government is like a prostitute, she will go to the highest bidder and you who depend on the government will come out on the short end every time.

Well, I just looked back at my 1990 wages from my annual Social Security report and my total was $11,000, as I was in graduate school at the time. Adjusted for inflation at http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi, that equates to $17,200 in 2006 dollars.

In that time, I never went hungry, but then again I had no computer, no phone, no cell phone, no cable, no cigarettes, no Lotto tickets and no fancy sneakers. I bought my clothes at the Salvation Army thrift store and drove a 1969 Olds Cutlass. Aside from the nasty tendency to strip the plastic gear teeth from their ultra-quiet timing chain, those old Rocket engines were super reliable.....but I digress......

At the time, my goal was to keep my d*ck in my pants (could not afford kids) and get through school, because being poor was really uncomfortable. Voila! I made it out and now make many times what I did in 1990.

To those too stupid to follow the same path, I remind you of the immortal words of Ted Knight in the movie "Caddyshack": The world needs ditch diggers too....

Stupid people lead uncomfortable lives. Always have, always will. Because you cannot eliminate stupid people (though those wacky Germans tried it in 1933-45....), you cannot eliminate the fact that a good portion of the population will ALWAYS lead uncomfortable lives.

I've read in several places online (http://www.geocities.com/rnseitz/Definition_of_IQ.html)that about 25% of the US population has an IQ below 80, i.e. they are described as "dull" at best. Hmmm.....that means you could throw money at them until the cows come home and they would be just as dumb (and poor) for THEIR ENTIRE LIVES. THEY WILL ALWAYS BE POOR.....

Studying the IQ issue and looking at the distribution of IQ scores has been a real eye-opener. No wonder so many people drive like idiots (they are idiots after all....) and seem to live in perpetual states of disaster. When you consider that a quarter of our population has the intelligence of a 12-year-old, a lot of things make sense, i.e. it explains why some folks just never seem to grow up and learn to be a success in life.

Of course, that never stopped a Democrat from thinking that if we just spent more tax dollars on "lifting these folks up from poverty", we would eventually solve the poverty problem.

Unfortunately, stupid people are born faster than I can pay taxes to support them. I recommend they eat chicken breast, pasta and spinach. I never bought milk or eggs when I was poor. Too expensive!

I do see an increase in food, energy, medical prices. But I don’t see the need for the government to step in and “fix” things.

The basic problem, imo, is people don’t know how to live “poor” anymore. In the country or the city. I’m not saying all, but most don’t know how to cook from scratch any more. And I don’t mean throwing a steak on the grill. I mean something as simple as cooking a pot of beans which will keep you from being hungry. No..it ain’t pizza rolls, but what is? Cut out the luxuries..and that includes cable, cell phones and the Internet. Keep the heat/air at a reasonable level. Walk when you can, take advantage of public transportation when you can. If you don’t have small children..maybe work more than one low paying job. It can be done (been there, done it).

I exclude the elderly who are on set incomes.

Of course in my day we walked 100 miles a day, uphill both ways, barefoot thru 5 feet of snow just to get to school, lol.

“Outsmarting the supermarket”

We had to resort to that in my family too. We even had a name for it. We called it... “shopping”.

Re: "Living paycheck to paycheck gets harder"

Oh the humanity... you mean actions have consequences (buy a big screen tv, new cars, get that four bedroom house when only 3 is really needed, etc.)?

Maybe these folks that are pi**ing and moaning should take a step back and realize that maybe, just maybe they should TRY to spend less than they make.

Reality... ain't it a beeotch!

I already hear my submitted taxes being sucked up by those that got ARMs - socialism, the "friend" of all that's the Democrapic party.
