In what has become something of a routine move, Democratic leaders attempted to distance themselves from controversial remarks made by 18-term Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.)
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) late Friday issued a statement condemning Stark's controversial language during the debate before Thursday's failed vote to override President Bush's veto of a bill to expand the state Children's Health Insurance Program.
Pelosi ... singled out Stark for criticism: "While Members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand ..."
Stark's comments were blasted around yesterday afternoon by GOP aides who captured the debate and uploaded it onto YouTube. "You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement," Stark said on the House floor. ...
Stark has had a tendency to utter outrageous comments in the past, so yesterday's inflammatory statement was actually not surprising ... In 2001, at a Ways and Means subcommittee hearing on welfare policy, he publicly ridiculed former Rep. J.C. Watts (R-Okla.). Noting his GOP leadership position at the time, Stark derided the "current Republican Conference chairman whose children were all born out of wedlock."
Watts had five children at the time, with only the first being out of wedlock.
In 1990, Stark said Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan, an African American, was "as close to being a disgrace to his race as anyone I've ever seen." And in 1991 Stark singled out his "Jewish colleagues" for blame for that year's Iraq war. ...

Today was NOT the Dems’ day
NEWS FLASH: POT CALLS KETTLE BLACK!
“I rise today to sharply rebuke the Congressman from California whose false accusation against the troops of the United States and the President of the United States are worthy of censure.”
That would have at least been a beginning, but no. The PATHETIC Pelosi made sure to still paint Bush as bad for their continued lie that Kids are being ripped off for socialized medicine and that their attempt to back door socialized medicine in the US with the program has FAILED!
There's half the problem.
Heh, took her long enough. The phone lines to her office, and those of the other Congressmen and women must have melted after Stark’s atrocious remarks.
Can you say “Racist Bigot?”
Heh, took her long enough. The phone lines to her office, and those of the other Congressmen and women must have melted after Stark’s atrocious remarks.
"Now, Petey, that was very very naughty of you. If you say that again, I'm going to have to think about giving you a time out! And I mean it this time!"
What kind of parents name their kid “Fortney”?

“Petey, I’m going to count to ten again, One, two, three... three and a half ....”
"Democrat." Ah, apparently I can.
It's an upper class thing. Fortney could be his mother's maiden name, or the last name of some other significant family member.
When I was a kid everyone I knew had an ordinary first name. Then I got a scholarship to an elite college and met people with first names like MacKenzie, Smith, and Campbell. Blew my mind.
