(R)acial hoaxes can cut both ways. The flurry of hanging nooses around the country may be a case in point. Hate crime experts and civil rights leaders say, and the media spin is, that the nooses are a white racist backlash to the firestorm of black protest over the Jena 6 case involving black teens in Louisiana accused of battering a white student. Others go further and issue dire a warning that that the nooses are a grim sign of a new racist hate upsurge in America.
A hanging noose found dangling on the office door of Madonna Constantine, a black race relations expert at Columbia University, is supposedly proof positive of the hate wave. The noose on her office door and at other places may well be the handiwork of a loony with a racial ax to grind or it may just be a put up job by a few silly, clueless, students who think stringing up or planting nooses is good for a few yucks and a brief media titter.
However, theres another painful possibility. One or more of the nooses could be a hoax to make a point about racism. More than a few writers on the CNN website in discussing the Columbia University noose discovery had no hesitation in pointing the blame finger at blacks. While others simply said they didnt believe that the noose had anything to do with race.
( ... ) the fact that so many believe that blacks are capable of pulling a dumb prank to get attention, or play the race card cant and shouldnt be cavalierly chalked up to white ignorance or bigotry. While the overwhelming majority of those that racial wolf shout to cover misdeeds or for kicks have been white, some blacks have screamed it too.

I say “hoax” perpetuated by people who are mentally stuck in 1961, aka LOSERS.

It's, like, dude, HELLLO, you know where that money has been? And you're putting it your mouf? That's just plain nasty.

(At least that's what I've read. Still don't know exactly what makes it a "joke", though, and still hoping someone who knows a little more about the subject can give some insight as to the humor. Anyone?)
Could be hoax but people are way too quick to cry racism or hate crimes for what might be innocent, albeit immature, fun. An example is a family who decorated for Halloween with a hooded dummy hanging from a noose, which they had apparently done for the past six years. This year, however, someone cried offense and race hatred and the dummy was taken down. As if lynchings, though comparatively few were horrendous acts, were the only times people were hanged. Nooses and hanging were around a lot longer than the lynchings some believe they represent now.
I’m sick of people crying offense for silly, often innocuous, things. Grow a thicker skin, folks. We all have sensitivity points and we all learn to deal with it. Why is it only the whites who must kowtow to multiculturalism? Rant over.
"...In one 1985 study done by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on the money machines in a U.S. Federal Reserve district bank, random samples of $50 and $100 bills revealed that a third to a half of all the currency tested bore traces of cocaine..."
I don’t know if it’s so much a joke, as a cool knot you can learn to tie. Particularly if you’re fascinated by the gruesome, as boys of all ages often are.
I know that when I learned to tie a “real” noose at approx. age 12, I made a LOT of ‘em.
After I post this, I’m going to find a piece of rope and see if I can still do it.
Then I’m going to hang it outside, over my watermelon patch.
(heh heh, just kidding about that last part.)
BUMP!
I thought the meaning of that picture is; “Who cares if my dingus is THIS BIG when I gots all dis money!”
Transforming thought into a prosecutable crime...
Does anyone recall the church fires hoax of 1996?
Aint no "accused" about it. Theyizbeen CONVICTED!
They formed a lynch mob and beat/stomped/kicked/jumped/ stood on, an unconscious kid!
There is not any doubt on this issue. It is a FACT!
Free Barrabas!
Don’t ya know - criminal thugs don’t kill people, pieces of rope and phrases like nappy headed do
Yes I remember it. President Bill Clinton had the FBI use their resources investigating a non-existent rash of non-existent racist cases of arson.
Meanwhile foreign terrorist agents who overstayed their visas were studying to fly planes and made it clear that they didn’t care about learning how to land.
The Clinton Legacy. Remember it well.
actually I don’t think these are hoaxes (funny pranks) as much as deliberate cases of fraud and extortion. In Los Angeles recently a firefighter (who has probably eaten more smoke in his lifetime than anyone) was rewarded with almost $2 million because a fellow firefighter threw dog food in his spaghetti sauce. Now are we surprised the firefighter was a campaign contributor to the mayor?
My money says Tawana Brawley redux.
My money says Tawana Brawley redux.
C’mon now...a Hangmans noose hung in such a fashion is a death threat. A terrorist threat...and it doesn’t even need to be codified as a ‘Hate Crime’ to be prosecuted fot what it is.
It makes no difference if the perp is a kluxer, a vengeful co-worker, a vengeful of stupid student(s), a yahoo sandwich maker, or a stupid drunk in a truck. It makes no difference if the target is black or white, the intent is to threaten a specific kind of murder.
Many a *white* horse thief, rapist, murderer, and bank robber, have been lynched, and not just in the US. Legally done or not, death by hanging, used to be the standard method of execution.
As soon as I saw this stuff about more nooses getting hung mysteriously, I thought to myself, before we judge, let’s find out who hung them. Sure could have been hung by blacks looking to keep this fire burning. Don’t jump to judgement.
“However, theres another painful possibility. One or more of the nooses could be a hoax to make a point about racism.”
If they are hoaxes, the “point about racism” is that the hoaxers are not only racists themselves but are also attempting to fire the first volley is their dream “race war”.
Some people just want to be hated by a particular group so their own hatred of said group can somehow be justified.
The only reason for the nooses is to get a reaction out of people.
And it worked.
EXCUSE ME ! Hanging a noose is a HATE CRIME. The 6 victims of racism beatng up a white male was fair fight(The six victims were responding to racism and so it wasn’t a crime anyway.) . Didn’t you see Sheila Jackson Lee at yesterdays hearing? She was outraged. The whole thing was Bush’s fault for not making mass arrests of white students prior to the fair fight. President Clinton 2 will appoint Mike Niffon for Attorney General.
If you want a challenge, I have a piece of nylon cord, about 3' long, that has a closed loop tied at the middle, and a noose on each end. It ends up, hung from the center loop, about 8" long.
As to boys...
In 9th grade, a buddy made a small noose out of a piece of clothes line, Walking down the hall, tossing it up & catching it, when it suddenly, accidentally, snagged on the sign over asst principal's office door, out of reach. He was in the office. An hour detention ensued. That was about 1961. Had it been 2007, probably would have been arrested.
Free Speech in action
I don’t understand why this is just a black issue. Many a white man was hung in the western days.
But I'm still intrigued by the joke idea. Somebody tell me, what's the joke? Is this regional humor that those of us raised in other parts of the country just don't get? If that's the case, I'd love to hear the explanation for it, because I don't understand what exactly it is that makes it funny. I'm a knee-jerk Yankee who's been poorly educated in things Southron; help me out here.
In addition to Tawana, and Clintoon’s ‘church burnings’, we have others.

Could be just another surge in fad reporting.
Just like suddenly shark attacks were all the rage - until 9/11. Then it wasn’t the rage until a feeble attempt this past year.
>> If you want a challenge...
I think I could pull it off, but it would probably take a few tries! I saw from my experiment earlier today that getting the noose to end up where I wanted it was the hard part. The length of the cord you spec would make the tying tough as well.
IIRC a “real” noose has 13 turns around the shank — is that how yours is?
>> As to boys...
ROFL! Thanks for sharing that.
The whores and scoundrels of the MSM would like nothing more than to exacerbate racial hostilities in this country. If they managed to instigate a race riot somewhere they would positively orgasm with glee. Vermin.
I might be wrong about the cord’s total length, as I didn’t tie it. It was given to me by a former co-worker & fishing buddy, years ago. The center knot is similar to a ‘standing loop’ used in fishing leaders.
Right now it is in a box somewhere, after having moved a couple years ago. It used to hang on the fridge.
RE : “Free Speech”
I can’t help wonder why burning the flag is protected by first amendment but not hanging a noose. Answer is like with animal farm(pigs vs others) , all animals are not quite equal under the evolving constitution. That’s why Sheila Jackson Lee and her buddies love Cuba and Hugo Chavis. They enforce justice on the spot, no need to wait for a justice position to free up.
RE : “what’s the joke?”
My guess is the modern civil rights march over the gang attacking the one white guy, demanding the attackers go free, got peoples attention. But it’s only my guess. Another guess is a dramatic reaction to something spurs copy-cats.
Just speaking for myself, I don’t think it’s a harmless joke. It is offensive and threatening at least in a general sense toward blacks.
I think what’s ticking a lot of people off is that a lot of these incidents have turned out to be fake.
And even when they aren’t fake, there’s a tendency on the part of the Jesse & Al types to excuse outright brutality against totally innocent people.
And then we have the generic “all nooses are bad” nonsense where they’re trying to ban nooses as Halloween props. Those are just spooky Halloween fun, in my opinion, but we may eventually see them banned because some people are constantly prowling for something to take offense at.
People just get tired of people who are constantly offended by something, especially when those same people often excuse horrendous brutality, such as the Jena Six beating of the innocent white kid. But your point is well taken that some nooses are obviously offensive and meant to intimidate people.
You're not missing anything. It isn't funny.
The "humor" is in the mind of pathetic nonentities who get their jollies by freaking people out. It's a "joke" or a "prank" in the same sense as phoning in a bomb threat or spray-painting a swastika. People who feel, usually rightly so, that they are insignificant figures get a jolt of self-esteem by making better people then them react. It makes them feel important rather than impotent.
The usual pattern goes like this -- a noose, or graffiti, or some other gesture is left as a threat by an according-to-Hoyle racist. Then the pathetic little nonentities come out of the woodwork as copycats after seeing the public reaction. We're talking mostly about ugly guys with tiny little penises whose mothers dress them funny.
True. But folks who were tried, convicted and executed under due process of law usually weren't threatened with nooses in public places. Lynchings, as you point out, were not exclusively of blacks -- but they were usually of oursiders, so the mob could trust that no one would rat them out. One celebrated case was the lynching of Leo Frank, a Yankee Jew, in Marietta, Georgia. That case led more or less directly to the 20th century rebirth of the Klan.
Now it couldn’t be that the sudden “rash” of noose hangings doesn’t have anything to do with Halloween coming up? I see a LOT of nooses in my neighborhood...
