MADISON, N.J. — Public uproar that compared an image to a lynching has led a Madison family to remove a hanged dummy from its Halloween display.
Cheryl and David Maines fear for their safety.
The couple's 27-year-old son has decorated their home for seven Halloweens. The hanged dummy, which has a black hood, is usually partially hidden.
But police started getting calls on Sunday, saying the display was racist. The state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said it was offensive and insensitive.

I saw some ghosts out in someone’s yard display that looked like muslim women in burkas.
The outrage for that is coming.
There was a guy in my parents’ neighborhood who put up a manger for Christmas and had a big disclaimer next to it with a list of people/religions he said might find offense.
Then on the last line it said, “I really don’t care if you’re offended...kiss my butt..and Merry Christmas.”

Born Agains don't like Halloween as "Satan's Birthday" etc but I have never heard of them demanding private Halloween displays be taken down.
This is all being done for November 2008, pure and simple.

Every time I hear something like this I think, my God, it can't get any worse and lo and behold, the next day it does. As long as there are liberals alive we will not be able to turn any of this around,,,I often wonder how much more ridiculous it can get and I'm always surprised to learn it CAN get more ridiculous. My grandparents are rolling over in their graves, that generation would NEVER have tolerated this kind of BS. They would have told the clown that complained to go to hell! AND they would have hung up another hanging dummy,,,,,and,,,if the complainer was stooooooooooopid enough to hang around,,,,well, the next hanging dummy would be that person!
A friend gave us an elaborate miniature Halloween display they had made themselves. It was wonderful, except for the little hanging man, which we removed. I didn't want my 3 year-old son, who is fascinated by ropes, to either try to imitate it or to be frightened by what it represents.

In any case I drive by this house on my way home that is covered with silly Halloween stuff and has been for weeks. People overdo it, IMO. In any case there are stuffed dolls hanging from the porch by the neck. This is on a street that is largely minority and I haven’t heard a peep of criticism. I think the people who live there are African American in fact.
A noose was used to hang criminals in the last century. It wasn’t held exclusively for the hanging of racial minorities.
This is preposterous. As you’ve noted, minorities found the use of the nooses to be a Halloween lark. This wasn’t mant to send a message of racism.
It wasn’t for the other family either. This just shows how much better race relations are in our nation, when folks have to build a case out of vapors, to prove racism still exists.
I passed three black guys on the sidewalk today. As I passed I said hi. None of the reciprocated. I was the whitey none of them wanted to acknowledge for fear the other two might think they were door mats for whitey.
Racism isn’t a one way street. Big deal. At another time any of the three probably would have said hi back.

I was ‘offended’ by a recent commercial on television. It was a warning against Nigerian e-mail scams. Of course the con man was an older white guy.
So now the race gang has made it a hate crime to do what thousands of people have been doing at Haloween for years.
Note: I think it’s sick to display images depicting corpses, graves, ghosts, and hanged bodies. I’d like to see it stop. But I DON”T THINK FOR ONE MOMENT THAT IT”S RACIST!!!
When people cave into this stuff it just makes it worse next time. The NAACP is stealing a page from the muslims book, feeling offended. This year it seems to be nooses as if the only people ever hanged in this country were black. It is time to start fighting back.

You are exactly right. The only way to stop this nonsnese is to stand up against it. Unfortunately most conservatives comply so as to not “make trouble”. We give in, they advance. They draw a line, we obey, so they draw another line, and we don’t go there, etc. If we were libs we would immediately hire a lawyer and threaten to sue the town. Its time to get MILITANT against this sh*t.
