The US shot itself in the foot, commented the Chief of General Staff General Yaşar Büyükanıt after a US congressional vote branding the killing of Armenians in 1915-17 as genocide, Milliyet reported yesterday. In an interview with the daily, Büyükanıt said if the non-binding resolution that passed in a House committee last week was to be adopted in the House too, Turkish-US military ties would “never be the same again.”
The general expressed the opinion that world parliaments had no business in judging history. He said, “The US is a very important ally of ours, but an ally does not act like this.”
This week, General Buyukanit will visit Israel.

Trying to hold up the budget for the war didn't work. The PR attack on the war didn't work - so the next step is to sabotage it by cutting off avenues to support the war on the ground (supply lines).

Yeah, we should replace the pledge of allegiance with a condemnation of Turkey in American schools every morning.
And Israel blew our boat out of the water back in the 60s. Today Turkey has good trade relations with Israel and allows something like 70% of our Iraqi supplies to enter through their nation.
Has our Congress passed a resolution condemning what the left forced in South East Asia in the 70s?
Three million people died. By most accounts, that’s three times the deaths we’re supposed to be condemning Turkey for.
At the end of WWI the Ottoman state was abolished and carved up by the victorious allies. The people who lived there were punished through the creation of various kings and dictators to rule over them.
The Turks fought back ~ presumably they are selected out for condemnation because they were not sufficiently survile.
Yes, the Turks did commit genocide, and yes we should have condemned it WHEN IT HAPPENED, but don’t you find it fishy that the Dems bring it up NOW, in a time of war when Turkey is helping to supply our military on their way to Iraq?
Also, do you really think the Dems brought it up because they wanted to condemn genocide and speak out against radical Islam? When have the Dems EVER spoken out against radical Islam? They’re doing it to sabotage our efforts in Iraq.
Yes we should condemn the genocide, but wait until after the war, not right now when it hurts us. Just why we didn’t do this decades ago is beyond me.

As soon as Turkey denied passage to the 4th ID, they lost all right to complain. All this touchy-feely stuff is a bunch of crap.

Whereas the testimony adduced at the hearings conducted by the subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations have clearly established the truth of the reported massacres and other atrocities from which the Armenian people have suffered; and
Whereas the people of the United States are deeply impressed by the deplorable conditions of insecurity, starvation, and misery now prevalent in Armenia; and Whereas the independence of the Republic of Armenia has been duly recognized by the supreme council of the peace conference and by the Government of the United States of America: Therefore be it
Resolved, That a sincere congratulations of the Senate of the United States are hereby extended to the people of Armenia on the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, without prejudice respecting the territorial boundaries involved; and be it further
Resolved, That the Senate of the United States hereby expresses the hope that stable government, proper protection of individual liberties and rights, and the full realization of nationalistic aspirations may soon be attained by the Armenian people; and be it further
Resolved, That in order to afford necessary protection for the lives and property of citizens of the United States at the port of Batum and along the line of the railroad leading to Baku, the President is hereby requested, if not incompatible with the public interest, to cause a United States warship and a force of marines to be dispatched to such port with instructions to such marines to disembark and to protect American lives and property.

It's come up twice, but didn't get passed either time.
We have, many times. But why do it again now? It's ancient history. The government that did it was overthrown by Ataturk and his band of young military officers. The spirit of Ataturk is the only thing keeping Turkey from going Islma nutso. It's weakening though.
If the Turks had let the 4th ID move across Turkey. They'd likely not have the problem with left wing Islamo Nut terrorist type Kurds coming across the border. The Turks have not treated the Kurds of Turkey well, historically speaking. But they also fail to make distinctions between Kurdish groups. And there are big differences. The ones giving them problems have gotten Iranian support, and earlier they got support from a certain Socialist country that is not far from Kurdistan and Turkey.
