Spitzer removes "temporary visitor" stamp from driver's licenses of noncitizens

Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, noncitizens who legally obtained New York State drivers licenses have been given licenses stamped temporary visitor along with the date their visa expired.
No longer.
The Spitzer administration three weeks ago quietly eliminated the state policy that required the special identification stamp on the drivers licenses for noncitizens who are legally, though temporarily, residing in the United States.
The policy change also eliminated the accompanying expiration date that was intended to show when the persons legal right to be in the United States ended raising the chance that a valuable form of identification could remain in the hands of people who want to remain in the country illegally.

Guess New Yorkers are anxious to see a repeat (or worse) of what happened 6+ years ago.
This fool should be impeached, tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.
(Instead he’ll probably be re-elected)

Latino votes are that important to Spitzer? What about his obligations to all the people of the State? Or is he merely another elitist Democrat?

I have long thought that after the next 9/11, there will be some sever repercussions against the muslim population in the US; however, actions like this lead to think that that anger would be better directed toward the Sptizers and other enablers who make it all possible.

No State government has, to my knowledge, ever required or even requested me to show a Driver License (or any other documentation) in order to board an airliner. Nor has a State Government ever required or requested that I show a Driver License in order to buy anything.
Agents of State (and County and City) governments have, however, required that I display a valid Driver License in order to support the privilege of driving.

Unbelievable, you'd never know 9/11 happened in NY. Spitzer even has his mouthpieces in Orwellian speak overdrive to convince us that less security is more security.

(Instead hell probably be re-elected)Let's not be so sure of that just yet. Somewhere along the line of 75-80% of people here oppose this plan, even in politically blue (but surprisingly ideologically conservative) Erie County.
If the New York Republicans can get restarted by 2010, then there's some hope.

And he will be relected by a landslide - this state is HOPELESSLY LIBERAL in spite of the attacks of ‘93 and 2001. And attack on tourists at the Empire State building years ago by a crazy Pallie. And despite the fact that a van with Yeshiva students was shot up as it crossed a bridge. Yes, this state is gone!

Exactly, when NY got tired of Cuomo and his antics they threw him out in a landslide and the same thing is going to happen to this fool that's in there now.

Most places that serve drinks demand ID if you look young.
Banks demand ID to open an account or cash a check.
Most would gladly accept a DL as ID.
Now the NY DL is a fake ID.

So Joe Newyorker gets on I95 South, in his NYS registered car, and heads on in to Pennsylvania.
PA State Police promptly do the flashing blue light thing (the NY plate is probable cause to suspect that the driver is bearing a NY "fake" DL). Upon investigation, driver does indeed have such ... is arrested for driving without a license ... car is impounded ...
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Oh, yes ... most folks over age of 30 don't get carded ... most folks don't open bank accounts outside their State of residence. Most folks who drive, do so outside their State of residence several times a year.
As another poster noted, it's TSA that would have to decertify the NYS DL for airliner use.

That would assume voters would put two and two together. They're not capable of doing that. Wouldn't you think that voters would figure out that it is Democrats who are preventing us from producing and refining more of our own oil? Oil is $85.00 a barrel.

Foreign Visitors Driving in the U.S.
Quick facts for foreign visitors about driving in the United States
An international driver’s license must be obtained from your home country.
This permit only verifies that you hold a valid license in your home country.
It is your foreign driver’s license that allows you to drive in the United States.
Contact the authorities in your home country to get an international driving permit,
as the United States does NOT issue international driver’s licenses to foreign visitors.

Perhaps he should do what other states do.
A tourist’s license is only valide to the end of the I-94 card AND the license says valid ONLY in state of NY.
TSA should issue an emergency decertification.

Can’t Spitzer be placed under arrest by U.S. Attorneys? This seems to cross the line into criminal activity.
To: jmyrlefuller
Hey! if you live in the State of New York, you have to write or call your state representatives and the Spitzer administration to object to this driver’s license deal.
Temporary legal residents should have end dates on any ID documents the state may issue. Illegals should never be given state ID - they shouldn’t be here or driving here.
State picture driving licenses are the universal ID here in the states. Any loosening of the standards promotes ID fraud and voting fraud. Our nation has enough challenges and we don’t need to facilitate those who may be a threat to our society.

The latest quote from Spitler:
After "Get A Life" Comment, Spitzer Talks Troopergate, Licenses With Action News
"No, no compromise. We're right. The governor sets this policy, this isn't a subject of debate from people, who are, Jim Tedisco who's out there saying silly things quite frankly."
Quite frankly gov, you're a loose cannon who needs to be stopped before thousands more die from your irresponsibility.
