Nathaniel Brooks stole a line from an old Western movie to capture a pair of burglars.
A Fort Bend County homeowner fought back when he found burglars in his home.
You know there's something about when you hear a pump shotgun click, said Nathaniel Brooks. It makes everybody think twice.
And the two burglars did think twice.
You are trying to steal something out of my garage, Brooks recalled telling the robbers. You in my garage so you have no rights now. This is my house.
He saw them through his back door rummaging through his garage.
And I walked out of the house and I went around and confronted those guys on the side of the house, he said. So, I aimed at him and said, You sneeze, you're dead man. And I called the other guy out of the garage.
"I watch a lot of movies it sounded like a good thing to say. It got his attention."
Brooks held them at attention until deputies got there two minutes later.
I feel like I reacted like every homeowner should react, said Brooks.
Deputies have praised Nathaniel for what he did, said he is well within his rights to do what he did. But they also say he helped them catch someone who has done this many, many times before.
The suspects are Brian Bostic and Richard Holly. Deputies say this isn't Bostic's first time to be arrested for a break in.
Meanwhile, Brooks has the praise of his neighbors.
"I think it's fabulous I wish more people would do it, said neighbor Charlotte Priest. "I don't blame him. I'd do the same thing myself."
Even Brooks own wife said in 20 years of marriage she had never heard this tough talking guy before.
"And I have never seen that side of him. Its like I'm a newlywed now, said Vanessa Brooks.
Yes, life is good again on Cinco Park Place where burglars are reminded to listen, and think twice.
Don't go to my house. I wouldn't come to my house if I were you, said Brooks.
“Job well done Mr. Brooks!”
Ditto that for sure! AND, “God Bless Texas”!
Sad to admit that in the northeast, neither the news media or the police would be admitting this on camera. It would be a nonevent. ;-(
God Bless Texas! Indeed!
Some how I see tonight she’s laying in bed and tells him to do his Clint “Want to make my day” and she does
That puddle at their feet didn’t come from a sneeze.
I’ve always liked Terry Pratchett’s version.
A cute young thing is holding at bay a huge, ugly thug.
“I bet you’re wondering if I’ll really use this. Truth is, I don’t know either. Think what fun we’ll have together, finding out.”
Dang I love happy endings!
Within a few years after Hillary’s two or three appointments to the Supreme Court, someone doing what this man did will face prison.
The new Court will use European legal precedents to strike down self protection principles.
Count on it.
It's pretty hard to walk, let alone put on your boots ... when your toes are so curled ... eh, brother Nate ?
“And I have never seen that side of him. Its like I’m a newlywed now, said Vanessa Brooks.
Yeah!! Women like men that can take care of themselves (and their women) I know I do. Swoon!!
I’d happily take this guy as a neighbor any day! Kudos, Mr. Brooks!
In the northeast the police would have arrested Brooks for "making terroristic threats" and "brandishing a weapon" and a couple of other charges that they'd throw on him as well. Here is what the politicians in the northeast would like to do with "civilians" who have the unmitigated nerve to effectively defend themselves
Yes, indeedy.(Women like manly men). Something the MetroSexuals will NEVER know.
Loaded 12 gauge under bed just for this type of thing.
Awesome story. Happy Ending.
You betcha! ;-D
Pretty sad commentary, but all too accurate ... makes me want to move to Texas!
Could have been better, but I guess the perps were too scared to move.
Hope you never have to use it though.
I think the video said that the police arrived in 2 minutes .... that’s a pretty darn good response time.
Like I said on the previous thread Speak softly and carry a 12-gauge (TX homeowner thwarts robbery) in a reply to lilylangtree and DaveLoneRanger:
Thats what the retired San Diego policeman told the handgun safety class I attended some years ago. You cant mistake the action and sound of a 12-gauge.
You cant mistake the sound of the bolt action on a 10-gauge, 3 1/2 inch magnum Marlin Super Goose shotgun when you load a round into the chamber in a dark room either.
As well as myself, but, you never know.
911 is for after the crime has been committed
...and the next call is to the cleaning/power wash company. ;-D
“An armed society is a polite society.”
I say exactly what Mr. Brooks said:
This is MY HOUSE, MY GARAGE, don’t come here and try to take my things. I would assume Mr. Brooks and his wife have worked hard like all of us to buy their home, take care of it, work for what they have and realize what the words on that yard sign really mean: “Life is Good.” Thank God for Mr. Brooks and his take control attitude because if he hadn’t Life might have ended for he and his wife if these perps had entered their home.
Every homeowner has a right to do what Mr. Brooks did. You pay your mortgage...you bought your home and everything in it. It is your refuge and that of your family. It should be a safe haven and entry should only be because you are the owner or by invitation. No one...NO ONE should ever walk into your home or garage or your property if they don’t belong there. Why that is so hard to understand is beyond me. Ordinary citizens like Mr. Brooks and the rest of us don’t have bodyguards...don’t live on huge estates with all kinds of expensive security nor do we live like hollywood with all kinds of bodyguards everywhere you go or secured behind concrete walls with security cameras all o ver the place, security dogs and the like like politicians, judges, etc. SO...we have a right to protect our life and those who depend on us.
So, to the perps I say: “Go ahead...take the chance.!” There might be a lot more “Mr. Brooks” out there after reading this story.
Long life Mr. Brooks for you and your family and thank you for standing up and being a real man. God bless.
I LIKE THIS AMERICAN!!!!
He's using the Second Amendment in a way it was intended (along with the purpose of keeping our government employees [officials] in line).I'd be HAPPY to be his neighbor!!
I also love that his wife has a renewed interest in her newly-sexy husband!!! GREAT smile!
The MSN would call that an "arsenal." I so like this couple and Mrs. Brooks' giggle at the end. Nice folks. ;-D
Sad to admit that in the northeast, neither the news media or the police would be admitting this on camera. It would be a nonevent. ;-(
God Bless Texas! Indeed!
Yes, being from Texas, I know about that sort of thing. Yes, it's something that all homeowners (and anyone) should do to defend their property (and to make society more polite, as a consequence).
I'm in Oklahoma now (for a while) and they're like that, there, too. Sometimes I think more so than even Texas... LOL!
And, yes, in some other parts of the country, such a homeowner would be criticized for taking things into his own hands...

Black guy triumphs over white punks which is not the point of the story, but interestingly ironic.
I as well.
Someone asked me once, "Why do you have a loaded shotgun in your house?" All I could say was "An unloaded one won't do any good?"
That pretty much summed up the conversation.
And that smile on his wife's face after saying she's like a newly-wed... Too cute and funny!
Ping
You are probably correct. I say when/if this should happen, the good citizens of Texas should exercise their right to secede. I know, there are those who say we lost that right as a result of the Civil War. However, I say that should Hillary become Queen of the U.S., perhaps we should test that theory and see what happens. Heck, we know what the Dem's will do. They will toss the issue over to the U.N. And, we know what the U.N. will do - condem the act and appoint a committee. So, there you have it - guaranteed success! God Bless Texas!
I noticed that too ... which makes this story even more newsworthy ... and it appears that the perps weren’t illegals either.
12 GA ping.
Good for ducks as well — LOL
That might not be the case if they were illegals.
Perfect place to use the three S’s. Shoot, shovel, and shut-up
Heck, here in NYS he could probably be charged with brandishing a weapon and menacing since he was outside his house.
“Within a few years after Hillarys two or three appointments to the Supreme Court, someone doing what this man did will face prison. The new Court will use European legal precedents to strike down self protection principles.
Count on it.”
Then we will have a civil war.
Hey, if you have do deal with some perps doing nefarious activites around the homestead, you have to have some good lines!
Even after hours and hours of training and range time, I always had a tiny doubt in the cobwebs of my brain that wondered if I really had to "do it" if I could ... and that was totally erased that night. It was easier than I ever imagined. And I'd do it again if it were necessary, in a nanosecond.
**in the northeast, neither the news media or the police would be admitting this on camera.**
Yes they would, the headline would read ...
HOMEOWNER JAILED on WEAPONS CHARGES
“Within a few years after Hillarys two or three appointments to the Supreme Court, someone doing what this man did will face prison.”
Not without a hell of a fight.
the good citizens of Texas should exercise their right to secede.Unlike certain other states, Texans haven't yet been shown that they don't actually have the right to secede from the union, despite the popularly held belief that the Republic of Texas could be reestablished.
What about the rest of us in the other 49 states?
Which leads us to quirky old Vermont: Does not Issue CCW’s (Anyone who can legally own a firearm can carry) 8-D
I live in Ft. Bend County and this is pretty much the norm. Move a few miles into Houston (Harris County) and the typical is 10 minutes or so (if they show at all). Typically, my calls for assistance get answered by 2 locals and 2 county in under 5 minutes. It still doesn’t hurt to be prepared (12 ga will do).
