Junk Science: DDT Backlash Continues
Fox News ^ | October 11, 2007 | Steven Milloy

Ever since the World Health Organization reversed the environmentalist-promoted ban on DDT in 2006, eco-activists have scrambled to devise new ways to malign the life-saving insecticide in order to salvage their badly marred reputation.

Their latest effort involves touting a new study supposedly linking DDT exposure in adolescent girls with increased breast cancer risk in later life. The study was authored by researchers from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine — an institution infamous for alarmist research on asbestos and 9-11 rescue workers — and was published in Environmental Health Perspectives, a journal that seems to operate as a refuge for alarmist research.

Yes, like that risk of increased breast cancer FAR OUTWEIGHS the ability of those same women to survive malaria and other such diseases.

Liberals are such idiots.

Yeah, I was one of those kids who ran after the spray truck. And I've never had cooties.

“Liberals are such idiots.”

In the Seattle paper a month ago they had a several-day long write up on Bill Gate’s foundation that focused on ridding the world of Malaria. One of the things they are trying to develop is a vaccine. I’m not sure on the actual quote, but one of their experts admitted that at $60/shot and 3 shots over a year where people make $30 per year presents some problems.

There were other more down-t-earth solutions as well as basic as providing free/cheap bed netting and advertising their use. However, as I glanced at all of the articles I just kept thinking - spray the area with DDT. Which I believe is relatively cheap. (The other insect killers do the trick, but are too expensive for these poor areas).

Rachel Carson - mass murderer.

Rachel Carson wrote a book. It was not she who banned DDT.

Here's the relationship between DDT and getting breast cancer in later life:

If a country doesn't use a reasonable amount of DDT to control harmful insects then a large number of girls will die before they have the chance to develop breast cancer in later life.

I wonder what the threshold is going to be, how many West Nile virus deaths in the US will result in the public outcry going up.

Sorry for truncating your post but 'reasonable amount' may be the key to this. As a matter of property rights I didn't mind the disallowing of wholesale spraying in the US. As with flouride, DDT shouldn't have been forced on all. Except, possibly, for the eradication of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.

That it was banned elsewhere before certain diseases could be eradicated was criminal.

Are there that many West Nile deaths in the US? I believe the number is far less than for flu.

Well, we could create a federal agency to decide which books get printed and which religious beliefs may be practiced.

The problem is that with regard to almost every issue reasonable people can disagree about what is reasonable.

That is why I need to be made Supreme Poo-Bah immediately so that all of these decisions can be made quickly and easily ... by me!

DDT was banned in the 1972 ish. It got unbanned in 2006.
How old were these 133 in the study ?
How long were they studied?
What country were they from ?
Seems like DDT did a lot of damage in a year.

Morons !

These are reported cases, not deaths. Try to keep it quite, don't want anybody to know. Not sure where the death totals are, but I remember something like 20 in Illinois ... We have friends up there who will be back south soon.

Add to this the Dengue fever epidemic now going through South America and malaria spreading up the Mexican peninsula, problems ahead.
