I am praying for the two boys and their families.
My daughter had MRSA,but I caught it just as it started and took her to the Dr. the second day after the sores appeared. She is still on strong antibiotics and a strong ointment for her sores. The sores are healing nicely and no knew ones have appeared.
I was fortunate to have read an article about MRSA in readers digest a few days prior to her sores appearing.
Last year my wife survived a near fatal pancreatitis attack and got MRSA after 2 months in the hospital. It took 6 more months to get rid of it.
My prayers for Ashton and Cody.
Prayers for all.
My wife got MRSA after a long hospital stay. No obvious problem now. Maybe less a problem with age???

Prayers for healing from the great Physician for Ashton and Cody.
Prayers lifted.
Prayers
Most Gracious, Heavenly Father, look with mercy upon the hearts of those who so love Ashton and Cody ... turn not their love into grief, but may they rejoice to see Your healing touch upon their beloveds. Return these young men to the fullest measure of health, I pray, that they might tell of Your wondrous mercy.
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may it be so, O Lord, may it be so ... Amen
We your children on this forum, whom you have charged with the privilege of intercessory prayer, ask this grace of you in the Holy Name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
Prayers sent for a quick and complete recovery for Ashton and Cody.
(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)

Prayers for Ashton and Cody. ~Pandora~
There is good news, but there is bad news. Cody is doing much better. Ashton had to be put on a respirator. I thank God for Cody’s healing, and pray that Ashton will recover.
Many prayers for both Cody & Ashton. ~Pandora~
Some mis-information I’ve read on this thread should be mentioned:
First, MRSA is very RARELY fatal. A blood infection is certainly deadly, but it is statistically rare.
Second, there is no cure for MRSA. It can be treated, but once you have it, you will always have it (although at least ONE person may have been cured - see below).
Third, MRSA does NOT cause flesh-eating infections, that is caused by another form of bacteria.
I know about a few of these things because I’ve had MRSA, and I may very well have been cured of it (a BIG knock on wood here).
I went in to the emergency room at a hospital here in South Jersey in April of 2005 to have stitches in my thumb following a home improvement project accident (damn sheetrock - it’s the devil’s board). I walked out with only two stitches, but apparently with a little going-home gift, too.
That summer, at the end of July, I took my son backpacking on the Appalacian trail. It was brutally hot that month, and I scraped my skin up pretty good. We were drenched in sweat every day and my scrapes were soaked pretty good. Upon our return, I began to notice a couple of boils on my legs where the scrapes had been. I also had one on my thumb. At first I thought that a spider had made its way into my sleeping bag. But the boils got bigger and bigger, and more and more painful. I went to the hospital, and a first year medical student took one look and said: “I think it’s MRSA.” Cultures were taken, and in a few days, it came back MRSA for sure. One of the old hat doctors there couldn’t believe how good of a diagnosis the student had made.
I was put on a strong antibiotic (I can’t remember what it was). After a few weeks, the boils began to subside. I was jumping for joy - until the following February, when it came back. I went back to the doctor and he gave me a cocktail prescription: some antibiotic along with another called Rifampin (sp?). Again, it began to subside - but then I REALLY got in trouble.
In April of last year, I was working on the sidewalk in front of my house. The insurance company told me I had to fix it or they’d cancel my policy (a tree had been there and heaved it up about 4 inches). I was trying to break the pad up with a sledge hammer and a cement chisel (stupid, I know), when the chisel rebounded out of the concrete and hit my leg.
The cut was deep, but I didn’t want to spend four hours in the emergency room for two stitches (especially at the same place that gave me MRSA). So I cleaned it out good, bandaged it up, and went to a 4-day business conference in Maryland.
While I was down in Maryland, my leg started to swell up. After a couple of days, I couldn’t walk. I went home and went to my doctor. He sent me straight to a orthopedic surgeon - who was VERY alarmed. He set up a whole passel of tests, and sent me to an infectious disease specialist.
The tests all came back, and the results were not good. I had a serious and very aggressive bone infection, and at that time - only four days into the infection - six inches of the lower tibia was infected. Apparently, the chisel had went all of the way to the bone. The major concern was that the MRSA had entered the bone from the skin.
I underwent surgery, where the infected bone was removed, and had a port placed into my heart. I had to plug into a piece of luggage every day for three months. On top of that, I needed MRIs twice a week (that was worst of all - I’m VERY claustrophobic).
For 1-1/2 months, there was no progress. The infection was not subsiding. The orthopedic surgeon told me that it was likely the leg would have to be removed. I was freaking out. I’m a very active outdoors person, and I’m also an avid cyclist who rides about 2500 miles a year on my bike. The doctor actually handed me a catalog of artificial limbs and told me to start picking out models. I’m not very religious, but I did some heavy praying then.
At that point, it seemed like the leg was going to go. I still had a lot of pain, but I asked the surgeon if it would be alright if I got back on my bike. I was really itching after two months to get riding again, especially if it was likely to be my last riding with my leg still whole. He thought about it for a moment, and then said: “You know what? I encourage you to do that. What’s the worst that could happen? It might even help.” From that day forward, my leg got better. Apparently, the increased blood flow past the infected area helped carry more antibiotic to the wound. At the end of July, they removed the port, and I said goodbye to the great nursing staff that visited my house a few times a week for almost four months. My tests are now all good, and the bone infection is gone.
Now it’s been well over a year, and the leg is still fine. But there might have been an added benefit. My MRSA hasn’t flared back up either. We’re all watching things closely, but it very well may be that the intensive treatment for the bone infection may have completely wiped out the MRSA. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but it’s great not to have it come back.
Sorry for the long post. I’m sure your friends will turn out okay. It’s not fun, but MRSA is not the end of the world. And who knows? In a few years, we might figure out how to beat these damn superbugs. It’s certainly a lesson for a lot of people. If you have a sniffle, don’t ask for antibiotics - they don’t do any good, and they CERTAINLY cause a lot of harm.
