A (CA) father's tragedy: 'Worst day of your life times three'
Los Angeles Times ^ | October 10, 2007 | Jean- P aul Renaud, Staf Writers

Posted on 10/10/2007 7:55:56 AM PDT by Tennessee Nana

El Monte man lost his wife and two children in a crash that may be linked to other cars' illegal racing.

-Snip-

Groce's wife, Dora Groce, 41; his son, Robert, 8; and his daughter, Catherine, 4, were killed as Dora Groce pulled the family's Nissan Altima out of the Brookside Mobile Country Club onto Elliott Avenue about 5:40 p.m. The mobile home park is in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley, about 14 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

-Snip-

Police said the car was broadsided at Elliott and Parkway Drive, an intersection with stop signs on every corner.

"It was a fierce crash," said El Monte Police Det. Ralph Batres. "The explosion that resulted was immense."

Dora Groce's sedan was pushed about 50 feet and burst into flames, rendering it unrecognizable. She appears to have died on impact, but authorities fear the children died in the fire. Several other cars were struck, -Snip- five other people were injured.

El Monte police on Tuesday identified the racers as Robert Canizalez, 19, and Martin Morones, 21.

Canizalez, allegedly the driver of the red convertible Ford Mustang -Snip- was charged Tuesday with three counts of murder and was being held in lieu of $3-million bail.

Morones was still being sought Tuesday night. He was charged in absentia with three counts of murder and one felony count of hit-and-run, Batres said. His Honda was found about a block from the accident scene.

"It's the worst day of your life -- times three," Stephen Groce said. "These guys took my life away from me just because they wanted to act stupid."

-Snip-

They were gone: Robert, the prankster. Curly-haired Catherine, a daddy's girl. And Dora, the woman he was so sure about he married her seven weeks after they met.

Laura Ingraham talked about this tragedy this morning...

"authorities fear the children died in the fire"

But it was fun for the perps...

"I'm a 44-year-old guy," he said. "You've got an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old daughter . . . . " His voice trailed off. "You don't have a lot else to look forward to. They become your life."

And here on FR, you’ll see plenty of posters ranting against efforts to deal with drag racing effectively, such as seizing the cars from the perps. I was appalled the last time I saw a thread on that topic.

We almost had one of those days a few years back. Late afternoon one day my wife had two of my sons in the van and was N/B on a street, stopped at a red light. The light turned green and she was about to enter the intersection and happened to look left. She saw that a tractor/trailer was coming pretty fast so she didn’t go forward. The tractor/trailer ran the red light and if she had moved it would have smashed our van. My wife said the driver pulled over and she could see that he was shaken. We think he wasn’t drunk and the sun was behind him so it shouldn’t have been a factor.

I know. :*( It's become a knee-jerk reaction for me. I worked with Hispanics for years, and knew many who were illegal (when I was teaching in east Dallas in the 90s) and I NEVER reacted to Hispanic names the way I do now--heck, *I've* been the victim of illegal criminals myself, having been in 2 accidents (one almost fatal) myself! I hate that this is happening to *me* because I know that many Hispanics are in our country legally--but it seems lately that almost EVERY horrible story we hear involving perps with Hispanic surnames where innocent people have been hurt or killed, the perps have been ILLEGAL ALIENS, many of them committing crimes NOT for the first time! :*(

I wonder if this street racing is part of the gang culture. Here’s another one! This time 3 innocent immigrants are victims.

RESEDA, Calif. (AP) - Street racing is thought to be behind another serious accident in the L.A. area.

Police say a mother and her two children are in critical condition today after a vehicle involved in a race crashed into their park car yesterday afternoon in Reseda.

LAPD Officer Jason Lee says the drivers of a black Nissan and a red Camaro were racing when the Nissan “lost control and plowed into a parked vehicle.”

He says the mother and her two children were caught between two parked cars that came together when the Nissan plowed into the rear of 1 of them. All three victims are said to be natives of India.

Two men are in custody today in connection with the crash.

The accident came a day after another woman and her two children died in El Monte when their vehicle was hit by a car also thought to have been involved in an illegal street race.

Some ijit wrote the following comment...

“10. THE POLICE INSTIGATED THE DISTURBANCE. THERE WAS NO ROWDY CROWD. THERE WAS NO MISCONDUCT BY THE CROWD. IT WAS NOT A POLITICAL DEMONSTRASTION. IT WAS SIMPLY A GATHERING OF MEXICAN AMERICANS TO CELEBRATE THE CINCO THE MAYO. IT WAS DONE LAST YEAR WITHOUT INCIDENT. IT WAS NOT JUST ILLEGAL ALIENS AS THE POLICE ARE SAYING. THE MAJORITY WERE AMERICANS OF MEXICAN DECENT.

Submitted by: BEN CERNA

Ahhhhhhhh Ben, stop repeating the illegal aliens talking points...It was not May the fifth...it was May 1st, the communists favorite day..

Its bad enough that the govt and the police etc treat American citizens like the enemy, but while non-Hispanics are convinced they have to apologize for not qualifying as members of La Raza, and side with the illegal aliens, this injustice against Americans, the deaths on the roads, the murders, rapes etc will continue....

.......almost EVERY horrible story we hear involving perps with Hispanic surnames where innocent people have been hurt or killed, they are ILLEGAL ALIENS, many of them serial criminals.............

Keep in mind, the frickin' Congressional amnesty deal is that unless we give illegals "dignity," they will rob, beat, assault and kill Americans, and sexually abuse our children.

According to Rep. Steve King, illegal aliens commit 12 murders every day in the U.S. and kill another 13 daily through drunk driving incidents.

That's more than 9,000 people killed every year by illegal aliens. As World Net Daily's Joseph Farah points out, that means more people are murdered by illegal aliens in one year than have been killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars since their inception.

Rep. King also notes that on average eight children are sexually abused by illegal aliens every day -- that's over 2,920 annually. And that's just a small portion of the illegal alien crime wave. 4.1 million crimes by illegal aliens

As we reported in Grassfire's booklet, "The Truth About The Illegal Invasion," some 325,000 criminal illegal aliens will be incarcerated in state and federal prisons this fiscal year. A GAO study found that illegal aliens commit, on average, 12.6 criminal offenses. This means incarcerated illegal aliens have committed over 4.1 million crimes -- and that does not include illegal alien criminals who are not incarcerated. And we learned from Rep. Tom Tancredo that thousands of illegals are coming from terrorist and suspect nations.

DETAILS:

---As reported in Grassfire's booklet, "The Truth About The Illegal Invasion," some 325,000 criminal illegal aliens will be incarcerated in state and federal prisons this fiscal year.

----Illegal aliens commit 12 murders every day in the U.S. and kill another 13 daily through drunk driving incidents. That's more than 9,000 people killed every year by illegal aliens.

---On average eight children are sexually abused by illegal aliens every day -- that's over 2,920 annually.

-------And that's just a small portion of the illegal alien crime wave....... 4.1 million crimes by illegal aliens.

---More people are murdered by illegal aliens in one year than have been killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars since their inception.

---A GAO study found that illegal aliens commit, on average, 12.6 criminal offenses. This means incarcerated illegal aliens have committed over 4.1 million crimes -- and that does not include illegal alien criminals who are not incarcerated.

---According to Congressional sources thousands of illegals are coming from terrorist and suspect nations and they are bent on killing Americans.

These "dignified" people violating our borders, "looking for a better life" "doing the jobs Americans won't do" should be thrown out of our country, subito.

I am not trying to hijack anything.

Fact is that young people do stupid things in automobiles. As evidenced by their high insurance premiums.

This could have happened in Potomac, Maryland, where there are multiple subdivisions of million dollar plus homes and estates.

And my post addressed another poster's suggesting President Bush was at fault here....as if the POTUS could clean the country of illegal aliens.

I apologize to anybody who is upset by my post to AuntB...who felt the need to chastize me for trying to stay on topic.

The title of thread is NOT about President Bush's failure...it's about a poor man who lost his family to a teenager's foolishness.

I don’t understand how it works with the registration-sometimes I can go right to a article, sometimes I can’t. If I can’t and I really want to read it (like this one), the first thing I try is a google search of the title. The link that comes up almost always bypasses the registration.

I fully realize the event to which the poster was referring.

But if you read the first dozen or so posts, the vast majority of them are calling for the DEATH PENALTY!

Death penalty for vehicular manslaughter??? Gimme a break!

It's become the norm in this forum for morons to come running on every thread by the usual driveby posters...inciting the regulars who absolutely cannot be reasoned with regarding illegal immigration.

I cannot imagine the horror this man is feeling...losing your entire family in an instant...under such horrifying circumstances.

But I sure as hell don't need to be spoken to by some emotionally unstable poster either. Terrible accidents happen. Foolishness by young people causes tragedy often.

Recently several young women were crushed by a tractor trailer because the driver didn't merge properly on one of our local highways.

Again, I am sorry for upsetting anybody...but let's get a grip here.

Death penalty for vehicular manslaughter??? Gimme a break!

For an egregious example of reckless endangerment such as this, capital punishment is not entirely unreasonable.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't push for it, but I certainly wouldn't argue against it, either.

This is an example of willfully engaging in behavior that a "reasonable person" could foresee would possibly result in severe injury or death. It's an entirely different situation than "failure to properly merge".

It's an entirely different situation than "failure to properly merge".

Not true at all.

The two jerks were only focusing on who was going to win their race. They didn't think some innocent lady would enter the road without looking both ways.

The mother could have been using her cell phone to tell somebody they were on the way....text-messaging...any number of things.

That does not mean to excuse the two racers. Their country of origin should not enter into the picture here.

It was an accident. The racers did not say..."hey, let's wait until a car comes so we can broadside it and kill everybody".

The racers did not say..."hey, let's wait until a car comes so we can broadside it and kill everybody".

Of course (hopefully) they didn't say that. That would be premeditated murder.

What they did do was to willfully doing something they should not have been doing to put themselves in a situation in which an uneventful outcome was dependent on someone else making no stupid mistakes.

I'm not sure of the current state of the law, but forty years ago tampering with an aircraft in a manner which led to a fatal accident was a capital offense, even if the tamperer did not intend to cause a fatal accident. This is an equivalent situation.

I think the problem with most seizures is that they provide police departments with an incentive to steal people's property (and they do). The city/state that was seizing and crushing the cars - I've got no problem with that whatsoever.

Hard to stop all the morons running stop signs and red lights.

I tell people all the time, before you cross an intersection, regardless if your light is green, of if you've already stopped at a stop sign, look both ways...You could have a 3,000 pound hammer, driven by a moron headed your way.

Intersections are death traps.

Well, thank you for your viewpoint. The problem is that there are too many people that refuse to do something meaningful about these creatures.

I’m not condoning taking the law into one’s own hands, all I said is that the time will come. It’s unfortunate that the self-righteous impose upon the rest of us their view of justice.

All too often these pieces of garbage are shipped back across the border only to retur to kill again. You can’t make this stuff up.

Again, sadly, someone will eventually snap. I’d ask you what you’d do if this was your wife/husband and children, but....

If I didn’t pause for about 5 seconds at a turning green light a few years back I would be pushing daisies right now. The Mercedes that screamed across me was doing well over 100 mph then flipped about 5 times as I finally accelerated. I just drove by the flipped car and kept on going. F him.

PS. I’m not that cruel. There were people behind me that probably helped the jerk.
