Today the feds will announce a huge nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants, especially gang members.
The goal is to take some of the more violent illegal immigrants off the streets.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says the crackdown serves as an example of how important the issue is. "For many years, the way we dealt with illegal immigration was we paid political lip service to toughness. I think we've got to show the public that we are serious about enforcing the laws."

I read a post elswhere that said even if we deport 10,000 a month it will take 10 years to get them all.

I’ll take a ride in a bit to the Culmore Shopping Center in Northern Viginia. Let’s see if the 75 to 100 “undocumented immigrant day laborer” illegals have gone back into the shadows of the 7-11 parking lot due to this “crackdown”.
On the day I see Hormel, Libby, Tyson, Swift, et al placing 10,000 help wanted ads at livable American wages, that’s the day I’ll know that Chertoff is serious.

Wish we could have ONE THREAD solely devoted to Freeper’s experiences with illegals in their hometowns and chronicle whether a ‘clean-up’ has actually begun, per Chertoff.
I can tell you that they do raid large construction being finaced with federal monies involved. They do this more regualarly than many imagine especially when there are complaints. I have seen raids with dozens of ICE and other law enforcement being done on a regular basis over the last few years. One I saw got three illegals out of 150 tradesmen in a midwestern area...none of them worked for me, thankfully.

We have a plethora of inmates in every state. Bring back the chain gangs to pick the nations crops. FREE LABOR.
If you have a broken water line that is flooding your basement do you:
A-grab your shop vac and begin to suck up the water.
B-move all the items stored in basement so they won’t get wet.
C-shut the water off before steps A & B

Local law enforcement is often contacted and can augment an ICE/DOJ team if they do a major raid of a construction site.
There are few things as disruptive to work-flow as law enforcement surrounding a construction site at 8:00 AM. LOL.
I wish they’d spend more effort on actually doing it rather than going out of their way to generate the press coverage.

You know... forget the fines. Put the employers in jail. Waaaay in the back of the jail. And not just some independent roofing contractors. Start at the top with the presidents and CEOs CFOs COOs etc and then work you way down (as if you would need to after the first two weeks of locking them up) as far as it takes until the Help Wanted Ads are doubling the size of the classified.
There are a many, many good and decent Hispanics in this country now legally and illegally, however, it is no business of our government to give our tax dollars away as handouts especially to those here illegally. The average family of four with both parents working full-time earning between $65-$85K annually have to work now to to the end of June to pay all their taxes and fees to the government. In NC taking in all workers (full & part-time and all income brackets), tax-freedom day, is April 25th.
