Obama: I don't need a flag to show I'm a patriot

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa On a day when he was planning to talk about other things, Sen. Barack Obama was forced this afternoon to talk about a flag lapel pin that he has not worn for years.
"Patriotism to me, isn't what you wear on your lapel," the Illinois Democrat said in a statement. "It's what you carry in your heart. I don't need a pin to certify my love for this country."
The statement, rapidly issued this afternoon, followed reports about an interview Wednesday with KCRG-TV of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the interview, Obama said he does not wear one of the pins, as has become something of a tradition for politicians since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, especially among Republicans.
"Like many Americans, he wore one after 9/11, but hasn't worn one in years," said Dan Pfeiffer, an Obama spokesman.

So the abstract concept of patriotism isn't about lapel pins after all? Those madrassas sure did educated Barry well.

Flag lapel pins are nothing more than props in the twisted minds of the democraps. The liberal politicians wear them in order to fool gullible voters.

"Patriotism to me, isn't what you wear on your lapel," the Illinois Democrat said in a statement. "It's what you carry in your heart. I don't need a pin to certify my love for this country." The word "patriotism", when uttered or written by a Democrat, should have a * beside it and a disclaimer below. Like other English words, liberals have redefined its meaning. They don't mean what you think of as patriotism when they talk about patriotism*.

While having or not having a flag does not make an American patriotic or unpatriotic, respectively, suspect Obama is not as loyal to this country as some of the other candidates--and not only because he is a Democrat. Obama was raised in a foreign country--so was Bill Richardson. Spending some of his formative years in a foreign state translates into a foreign culture having molded Mr. Obama into who he is today. Personally would make the requirements for President stricter, with potential Presidents having to have lived from 0 to 15 or 20 in the United States alone (maybe with some exceptions for vacations, but vacations of less than a month).
More on topic, some of the flag people and stuff is so tacky. Also, those little phrases which cropped up after September 11, such as 'red, white, and blue: these colors don't run' were loathsome.
Had it occurred to the 'inventor' of that phrase that red, white, and blue are the 'colors' not only of the United States, but: the UK, the Russian Federation, the Netherlands, Liberia, the Czech Republic, Chile, Cuba, Taiwan, Western Samoa, and....oh, yeah.....FRANCE (many freepers would argue that that is a country that runs)? If you include countries with those 'colors' plus other one(s), the number of countries is boosted further.
Then there are the technicalities. The inventor was obviously not familiar with washing clothes. Red dye is notorious for running, but blue can, too. And this was a thing to which the phrase was making reference. Furthermore, white is not a color. White is the collection of all colors in the visible spectrum. This last one is extremely picky, granted. Just take a low view of the stupidity of the phrase.
Also, drapping oneself in an American flag does not make one patriotic. Every single on the the September 11 hijackers could have draped themselves in a flag--and they weren't even American.
Yet another case of personally going into a little rant over method rather than stance....

this is lame.
If you love something, you don't argue about why you shouldn't be made to display a symbol.
That doesn't even enter into your thinking.
Sure, I don't need a flag to be a patriot, but on the other hand, doesn't a true patriot sort of always wonder if he can possibly do enough for his country?

Don't be silly. That slogan existed long before Sep. 11. And who gives a damn if other countries also use those colors. When the phrase is used, everybody knows which flag is being referred to. Too bad that it seems to bother you so much.

I don’t need a pin to certify my love for this country.”
Then as President I assume he’ll no longer want flags at the Whitehouse. All Presidential seals will therefore be removed and discarded. There will be no need to ever dress appropriately for the many Presidential functions. Symbolism and tradition are expected from a person representing and leading the people of the U.S. To flaunt tradition and discount the importance of symbolism is an insult to so many who place great importance on them. Why not just stay in your pajamas and run the country via closed circuit tv. Why bother doing anything publicly that the people expect of a leader? What a jerk!!

That pin, representing the flag of our country, is important and sacred to millions of Americans. Millions more have died defending our flag. Wearing that pin at the very least shows respect for those millions who do think it’s important. This attitude of his really bothers me.
How can one love his country and then insult millions of those who find it’s symbol so important.
