Richardson Says He's Running for President, not Senate
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | October 4, 2007 | Nedra Pickler, AP

WASHINGTON — Democrat Bill Richardson said today that he's not giving up his presidential bid to run for a Senate seat that has opened in his home state of New Mexico.

"I am not running for the Senate. I'm running for president," Richardson said in a brief phone interview with The Associated Press.

The governor and his campaign advisers did not rule out a Senate race if he does not win the Democratic presidential nomination. "Right now," said his spokesman Tom Reynolds, "we're 100 percent committed to running for the White House."

Republican Sen. Pete Domenici planned to announce Thursday in Albuquerque that he will retire at the end of his term in January 2009. The 75-year-old, who has served six terms, said he has a progressive disease that can cause brain dysfunction and eventually make him incapable of serving.

Not running today, but maybe next spring? If the Rail Runner and highway funding problems aren't solved by then, he'll be glad to try for a job that gets him out of New Mexico!

Dominici said he’s retiring. Big loss, even though he was old (75) and wasn’t real tough, as I recall, on illegals. Started to waffle a little on the war, too. Richardson would make a tough candidate for his seat.

A Democrat that can lose two different offices to a Republican at once. I like this guy.

Exactly what I said yesterday. He’s going to be Hillary’s running mate.

Eventually this pinko will be running from the law. His administration in New Mexico is larded with crooks.

(I'm surprised.)

Unless he has a reasonable assurance that Hitlery will pick him for Veep, he’s running for the senate seat. I don’t think Obama is a shoo-in for Veep given that (a)he isn’t all that popular with blacks (he’s white, after all) and (b)Hitlery can take the black demographic for granted anyway. What else are the going to do? Vote Republican?

The ABQ Journal devoted most all of its front page to Domenici this morning. Pete was (is) a good friend to New Mexico and supported the party on most all votes, though he got a little too moderate the past couple of years. However, as a purple state (Red and Blue), he couldn’t be a hard liner and get re-elected as often as he did. He is probably one of the hardest working and honest members of the US Senate, though his sharp mind is slipping, leading him to retire. The formal announcement will come in two hours.

BTW, the rest of the front page was devoted to Richardson’s problems with the Rail Runner and highway funding (millions being diverted from highways to build and operate a commuter railroad that carries a few thousand per day, but looks good on his resume and makes the envirowackos happy).

Or failing that, maybe he could get a job shoveling horse manure at Ruidoso Downs...he shovels enough of it now to be real good at it.

Who do you think can replace him on our side? I always liked Dominici except when it came to tax cuts-—he was always a guy who (as I recall) seemed to say, “How will we pay for the tax cuts?”

"Or failing that, maybe he could get a job shoveling horse manure at Ruidoso Downs..."

Please, NO. I don't want him that close to me.

Let him go to Arkansas and shovel chicken um....'manure' for Tysons.

It looks like RINO Heather Wilson will run. Don't know if a conservative candidate will pop up, but it's likely he couldn't win as the demographics of the state are rapidly moving to the left.

Wilson to seek Domenici's seat
