Washington puts illegal immigrants on back burner

WASHINGTON -- Lawmakers last week focused their energies on funding the war in Iraq, denouncing the president of Iran, proposing more cash for children's health insurance, trying to expand a flood relief program, banning hate crimes, and averting a government shut-down.
What they didn't do: Strengthen border enforcement, create a path to legal residency for roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants, provide cash that would help schools, hospitals and police cope with rising immigration rates.
Since the demise of a bipartisan Senate bill, lawmakers have shunned immigration issues. House lawmakers haven't held a hearing on immigration policy since June 19. The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled no action on immigration legislation, and the chastened Senate has dropped the matter.
If the effects of illegal immigration, positive and negative, remain a concern among employers, police chiefs, mayors, county officials, state lawmakers, state attorneys general and governors -- and also for presidential candidates in both parties -- it is not a top-tier concern in Washington. The demise of the Senate bill has stricken the issue from the congressional calendar.
"One person could determine that (an immigration bill) would happen: That's Nancy Pelosi," U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo said of the California Democrat who is now the House Speaker. "It doesn't appear right now that the Speaker has any inclination to do that. There apparently was a decision to allow the Senate to move first. They managed to bollix it up so much that, from my perspective, I don't hear anything being talked about."
The immigration issue will be too "radioactive" for Congress to tackle in a presidential election year, added LoBiondo, R-2nd Dist.

Then the old laws apply. Let the deportations escalate!

Juan Barrera, left, waits for a question to be interpreted by Yale Law student intern Justin Cox during a news conference in Danbury, Conn., Wedmesday, Sept. 26, 2007. Barrera is one of the 'Danbury 11' who are filing a federal civil rights lawsuit accusing the city of Danbury of violating the constitutional rights of laborers last year during a sting targeting illegal immigrants. Illegal aliens should not even been in this country, much less file lawsuits. Deport them.
Putting them on the back burner won’t save any butts this time around.
The opposing parties slyly wink at each other. Back burner?
..especially with this issue, we must never let down our guard!
There already is a path - go back to country of origin, and apply for a visa.
Enforce the law, build the fence. Don’t bollix it up again.
They must be hard of hearing in Washington, but I hear at least McCain can hear better now.
Washington puts illegal immigrants on back burner

Till midnite next Friday...:0/
It is radioactive for the Dems. They know it is a losing issue for them in 2008. The Reps should make it the defining issue of the campaign.
And the news media is lapping it up. Idiots.
Back burner my eye socket. I don’t trust our politicians any further than I can throw them when it comes to illegal aliens.
what I want to know is what is happening to those two “poster child” illegal aliens which a group of highschoolers made their own lobbying project.
There were two miami “honor students” who were going to community college but were under a deportation order WITH THEIR PARENTS.
The immigration judge ordered a stay pending the session in congress. Since there is no action on the Dream Act AMNESTY. The stay should be lifted and its deportation time.
They should repay the Florida taxpayers for the education they received illegally too.
Thats a good point Congressman. Why don't you stick to less risky activity like voting yourself a pay raise.
Useless!!!
btt
Yale Law student intern Justin Cox....
Here is how law intern programs work, LAW STUDENTS work under a licensed attorney who is responsible and supervises their work. The interns generally under most all programs have their entire semester’s credit for working as a intern. The intern is essentially working as a fully licensed lawyer in that program.
HERE IS THE FUN PART SO PAY ATTENTION FOLKS:
When it comes time for LAW STUDENT Cox to apply for the bar of his choice. The board of bar examiners of his state will invite PUBLIC COMMENT about the content of the character of the bar applicants.
THE PUBLIC AT LARGE IS FREE TO COMMENT about this person.
Now if he is a senior, he probably has already filed his application and the public comment period has started. Generally students are advised it takes up to 8 months to have a bar application cleared.
This should not be confused with the bar examination. That is a different step.
Any idea which state he’s applied to?
All the Democrat Governors are issuing driver’s licenses to the illegals so they can vote!
“Backburner” yes...
But not off the stove entirely...
And not off the table...
So dont sit down..on the chair...
Keep standing...with your phone in hand...
no idea. I was hoping somebody had some info on it.
A Bar Application Comment can and will delay an application approval. If he forgets one TINY little question then it could derail his application for MONTHS.
In addition if he has one TINY financial mistatement it could bar his application entirely.
Bar applications have been denied for failing to list credit cards, speeding tickets, disclose law suits, disclosing financial obligations.
It is a VERY intrusive application in the major states.
(then again there is north dakota which is a tad easier because it is a low demand state)
Sadly our current busted system is a lot better than what Jorge and Fat Teddy would give us.
Back Burner? Its not even in the kitchen.
WE NEED TO KEEP IT IN THEIR FACES; WE NEED TO LET THEM KNOW THAT WE CONSIDER THIS TO BE URGENT. ANONE WHO WISHES TO BE ELECTED SHOULD VERY WELL BE ON THE STICK NOW, NOW, NOW to get the damn fence built.
Any politican who doesn’t want the fence, doesn’t because they want the political potential to achieve power and bribes to let in whoever they want. If the wall is up, someone gets caught in a major terrorist event, then the investigation will turn up a politico who was responsible for that persons illegal entry into the country and they sure as hell don’t want that!
What, these fine fellows?

I'd like to put them on a burner, all right
Is Turbin’ Durbin’s DREAM Act on ice? No ‘midnight sneak’ for that provision?
“alerta de barfa!”
LOL ... Extremadamente gracioso!
Couldnt find ANYTHING else on it ANYWHERE ... (gee, why would that be?)
It currently appears on page 8 of their video libary (Sept. 30, 2007, 7:33 p.m. PT). I'd be interested in knowing if anyone saw this reported anywhere else.
In other KCAL news, Mirthala Salinas (LA La Raza Mayor's mistress) doesn't like exile in Riverside, CA, and says adios to Telemundo.

The Inland Empire is a dry, smoggy, boring armpit of tract housing and freeways.
