That should read “550 g”, not 550 kg. He’s big, but not THAT big...
Can you please explain that further. Is there some medical/technical reason?

Every organ of the body develops on a schedule, and 40 weeks is the amount of time alloted for interuterine development. The brain at 25 weeks is just not the same as the brain at 40 weeks. So parents of premies generally use the 40 week date when choosing when to start their child in school, for example.
My grandfather was born in the early 1890s, the first of 5 sons. He was 3 pounds at birth. He said he was so small they needed to carry him around on a pillow. He never had any learning problems or deficiencies his whole life.... in fact as the son of a farmer he had lots of hard work facing him.
This fine gentleman (who always claimed to be Santa Claus’ brother) left us at age 88, having lived a full life with no health problems ever.
Truly God has blessed this family. And now all of us.
From the various replies it seems that it really varies from child to child.
There is all kinds of potential - that’s good.
What a sweet little baby.
God is good
...all the time!
‘I whispered to her: Kimberly, youll make it, he recalled.”
And she did!
Thank you, dear God!

Thank you for sharing your story.
Even in the late 1890’s he made it.
Tears sprang to my eyes when I saw that poor little fighter’s picture...
Yes, that baby is a miracle! That’s how I feel about all babys born and unborn. And those who call unwanted unborn babies inonveniences and ignore their rights and feelings and pain when it comes to abortion are only fooling themselves.
Yes, each and every baby is a beautiful miracle, and such a very wonderful gift from God!
“My first born was a 3 lb premmie”
Mine too! He is nine now and a tank. These photos are amazing.

“How long does it take a premmie to catch up to their age?
For example, do they generally start first grade a little later or are they physically caught up by then?”
Every case is different, but in my case, My son is the third tallest in his class. He came home with 4 “A”s today. He caught up within his first year. (Yes I am proud of him and thank God for our blessings)
I agree—she’s far from out of the woods, but the picture of her and her parents gives a lot of hope for her future—bright eyes, and arms and legs waving around, and parents who desperately love her.
Yes, sometimes it’s okay to experiment on humans. And back seat drivers aren’t the ones to make the tough calls on these cases. Unfortunately, sometimes the front seat drivers make very wrong calls too, and end up simply tormenting a helpless creature who has no hope of ever being fully conscious and really living, much less understanding why big creatures keep hurting him/her all the time. Sadly, that’s a much more common outcome for babies this size, whether they survive or not.
The fingers (and toes) in all babies start out fully webbed, and gradually the webbing disappears as the digits become more fully developed. I’m not sure how the degree of gestational age corresponds to the normal degree of webbing, but it’s also possible that the webbing on this baby was more present than normal for this gestational age, since obviously things weren’t going entirely normally with this pregnancy or she wouldn’t have been born over 3 months ahead of schedule.
As the Lord says, He knows us in the womb, right from the very start.
Great story. Thanks for posting. Hope all of the world sees this and realizes abortion is the killing of a baby.
I had not heard that story until shortly (about 2 months) before he died. I was astonished when he told me. Obviously he was a scrapper from the start.
