Tabloid Attack Dogs Seek Next Victims: KBR and Blackwater
FamilySecurityMatters ^ | 9/26/07 | Mark R. Taylor

Before the smoke cleared from the attack on a Blackwater security detail in Iraq on September 16, 2007, the mainstream media began its relentless attacks on the security contractors who have risked their lives – and in some cases given their lives - to serve our country in Iraq.

Their assignment, among other things, is to protect their principals - reporters, ambassadors, Senators, Congressmen and even Secretary of State Condolezza Rice - in war-torn Iraq.

It is not lost among those of us who endured the same frenzied and sensational journalism while driving trucks in Iraq for KBR in 2004/2005 that it is not truth, justice or victory that drive the reporters there. Scandals and bad news sell, especially with regard to contractors in Iraq. It’s all about the money for the networks and fame for the so-called journalist.

Maybe not.

Immediate calls for the removal of Blackwater from Iraq were quickly buried as they apparently realized that, without Blackwater, they would have had to put their trust in the Iraqi security detail. To stay alive, they need the professionalism and skill of our rock-solid “mercenaries”, but refuse to admit it readily.

They need Blackwater. They need civilian security details. There is no alternative.

What bothers me is that the use of Blackwater and other contractors allows us to avoid having the national discussion about troop levels.

IMHO either the country supports the effort in Iraq or it doesn’t. Paying contractors lets us fight a war without having a draft or openly ‘fessing up to how large an army we need.

If there were no contractors serving the U.S. Army we would have to make a decision as a nation: do we have a draft, drastically increase pay and benefits for troops, or leave. In a way it is like running up a debt rather than facing the facts of a budget.

If the people do not support the actual cost of the war, in lives as well as treasure then perhaps we should ‘cut and run’ and await our eventual fate of death or dhimmitude.

Not saying that the operatives of Blackwater aren’t ass-kicking patriots, they rock!- but I wonder if any others feel that the use of them lets us ignore the real costs, costs that we should either willingly pay as a whole nation or resign ourselves to our eventual fate.

In search of big revenues, however, reporters and attorneys (with the advantage of hindsight) jump at the chance to dissect contracts, procedures and actions.

That is one damning statement by the writer. He hit the nail on the head!

BTW-

I Love KBR!

i’ve admired blackwater protective services of our high level diplomats and politicians.

but that’s not the issue here.

someone of blackwater did something wrong. not all the details are known yet.

to blindly promote blackwater until we know more is just as evil as what the liberals do to us.

“someone of blackwater did something wrong”

Really...How do you know that? From the MSM reports? Without the real facts, and to assume they did something wrong is so much worse than the liberal crap.

Read it. Regardless, wait for all the facts to come out before you pass judgement.
