Boulder students seek to protest Pledge of Allegience
RockyMountainNews.com ^ | 9/26/07 | Vanessa Miller

Posted on 09/26/2007 2:03:12 PM PDT by 30 Govt.

Boulder High School students are planning a protest against the Pledge of Allegiance in the courtyard of their school tomorrow morning. Students with the activist club "Student Worker" organized the protest for 8:30 a.m., when the pledge is recited over the intercom. They're concerned that it takes away from school time and that the phrase "one nation, under God" violates the separation of church and state, club President Emma Martens wrote in an e-mail. "Boulder High has a highly diverse population, not all of whom believe in God, or One God," she wrote. She said the group would rather the school hold the recitation — which the school must make available by state law — during lunch break, or at another time when students who don't participate wouldn't have to listen to it.

I can’t see a problem with them not pledging their allegiance if they don’t want to.

Have they said when they plan to leave the US?

I believe the SC chickened out, as usual, on the tough issues.

They ruled that Nie didn’t have standing for the case, they did not rule against the idea of taking out “under God” from the pledge.

Haha. They do have important things to do in school:

BRAVE NEW SCHOOLS
‘Have sex, do drugs,’ speaker tells students
‘Men with men, women and women, whatever combination you would like’

A guest speaker at an assembly at Boulder High School in Colorado has told students as young as 14 to go have sex and use drugs, prompting school officials to say they will investigate.

The instructions came from Joel Becker, an associate clinical professor of psychology at the University of California at Los Angeles.

“I am going to encourage you to have sex and encourage you to use drugs appropriately,” Becker said during his appearance at the school as part of a recent panel sponsored by the University of Colorado’s Conference on World Affairs.

I don’t know but the libs in Boulder are smarter then those dead white males that wrote the Constitution 200 yrs ago. I am sure the school will encourage or condone this behavior vs. require them to stand for the Pledge of Allegience.

Termite brained kids these days are working against their own future.

Maybe they feel so weak and insecure that they can't conceive of owning a new car, easy chair and the eventual condo in sunny Poipu. So nobody can!

They're so stupid.. all their passion working against the short time they get to be alive. A life devoid of happiness. A life of poverty inexperienced in the majesty of an Earth they claim to worship.

Why don't they rebel against the establishment? Why be the sacrificial pawns of the Boomers and the even worse Gen-Xers?

These little idiots KNOW EXACTLY NOTHING. They want a worker's club? Worker in the name of an org.=communist. They haven't a clue about communism, but I wish they would have to live under it for a year or so.

They have been convinced that the words "under God" violates the separation clause. The "separation clause" comes from a discussion in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson, who never meant it in the way it has been characterized by the left. I would bet they also know nothing about Jefferson--except, maybe, he held slaves, so should be expunged ferom American history.

So their community is diverse; so some of them don't believe in God. They think they have a constitutional right not to be offended; ergo, they are trying to stomp on other people's rights. It is time for the gubmint (congresscritters)to grow some brass appendages and cut off funds to some of these schools, starting with Col. U. right down to Boulder HS. Let their parents pay for their schooling.

Get this, and especially the link at the end, clear evidence of where is this all coming from:

Youth Speak Out Against War, Recruitment

Winter 2004/2005

Some 85 students opposed to the war and disturbed by the general direction of American life occupied Boulder High School in Colorado Nov. 4, before peacefully leaving the next morning.

The students told reporters they were disgusted with the Bush administration's policies, particularly the war on Iraq, the national debt, the environment, military recruitment in the schools, and the possible return of the draft.

The students, who belong to the "Student Worker" group at the school...told the media the action had been planned before the election. They had brought sleeping bags and clothes to last through the weekend. Clearly, however, the election results deepened their anger and anxiety. Brian Martens, a high school senior, told reporters, "We want them to reassure us that our fears are misguided and that the government is doing everything in its power to prevent our futures from being destroyed."...

Seven Rostovsky said the protest was meant to get adults to listen to students' opinions "by letting people know that adolescents are there and by saying, 'We're not going to take this.'..— David Walsh A longer version of this article appears at the World Socialist Web Site, www.wsws.org

The most ironic thing about this whole affair is that Boulder is a beautiful prosperous town with an amazing view of the Rocky Mountains. If you are a teenager growing up in Boulder you have it made. Your parents are probably rich, you have never worked a day in your life, you have every advantage in this world. This nonsense is the best way you spend your time? I think they feel guilty about their charmed existence. If people don't have real problems they make them up. They should stand in the shoes of someone who really has to work for a living, then they wouldn't be so anxious to Pi$$ on their country.

Marxists run our education system, and they have plenty of Dim Wit government teachers to play the role of Useful Idiot.

I am perplexed and frustrated. The American people are unaware that we are fighting a philosophical civil war against the Marxists who have infiltrated every level of government, our bureaucracies, and especially our educational system.

We can survive a nuclear suit case bomb, but freedom will not survive if the Marxists and Dim Wit government teachers succeed in indoctrinating the next generation of voters.

Government schools are the Marxists´ most effective and important weapon, and Sean and Rush rarely mention government education and seldom even use the word Marxist.

We MUST work to shut down all government K-12 schools and work tirelessly to reform or shut down Marxist dominated colleges and universities.

Let’s take up a collection to send the poor little abused commie baby to Cuba or North Korea for an extended visit. Maybe a stop in Saudi Arab or some other fun loving ME country, just to round out her trip. Heck, lets send all her buddies from her little club along as well. Oh, and don’t forget the Che t-shirts. Cant go anywhere without those.

Since she doesn’t seem to like it here, let’s send her elsewhere. I’m in for $5.

Its getting worse all the time. I studied History at a big state university in the Northeast. When I attended class there, there was a group of older professors that came of age prior to the 60s. They were balanced in their opinions and how they presented history to their students. Most of them cared about the future of this country and it showed in their lectures. There was also a younger generation of professors who came of age in the late 60s and 70s. Some of them are overt Marxists, some of them just professed a world view that held the US was the root cause of all suffering in the world. I am sure most of the old timers are retired by now. What’s left teaching our youth is a core of leftists that stifle freedom of speech and thought. Hopefully kids will see through this and rebel against their elder leftist thought police.
