U.S. May Escort Ahmadinejad to Ground Zero
http://www.nysun.com/article/63004 ^ | 19 Sep 07 | Sarah Garland

Posted on 09/19/2007 12:35:37 PM PDT by seanmerc

In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

The Iranian mission to the U.N. made the request to the New York City Police Department and the Secret Service, who will jointly oversee security during the president's two-day visit. Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to arrive September 24 to speak to the U.N. General Assembly as the Security Council decides whether to increase sanctions against Iran for its uranium enrichment program.

Mr. Kelly said the NYPD and Secret Service were in discussions with the Iranian mission about the logistics for the possible visit, and whether it will take place at all. He said Mr. Ahmadinejad would not be allowed to descend into the pit for safety reasons related to ongoing construction there.

"There has been some interest expressed in his visiting the area," Mr. Kelly said. "It's something that we are prepared to handle if in fact it does happen."

Mr. Kelly said that Mr. Ahmadinejad had not indicated why he wants to visit the site of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

A spokeswoman for the Senator Thomspon quickly condemned the proposed visit.

"It is an insult to the memories of those who died on 9/11 at the hands of terrorists, and those who have fought terrorism for years, to allow the president of the world's top state sponsor of terrorism to step foot at ground zero," the spokeswoman, Karen Hanretty, said. "Iran is responsible for supplying weapons and supporting extremist who are killing US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan to this very day."

It would be appropriate to give him the great honor of supporting the corner of the new tower.

This is what is frustrating the hell out of me. People are outranged Ahmedenijad wants to visit ground zero, yet people don’t really be all that concern with Iran support of Terrorist, Iran attepting to build a bomb, and Iran attempting to undermine the US economy, and Iran attempting to undermine US presence in Iraq by killing our soldiers.

Let’s take care of the big picture the small stuff will take care of itself.

This is a genuine pile of monkey nuts. If this country allows this psycho near that venerated site, we deserve to get whacked. This guy’s country kills American troops every day. They killed 269 Marines in Lebanon in the 80s. They deny that the extermination of the Jews happened at the hands of the Nazis.

We need to provide him with a guided missile up the tailpipe of his plane as it gets into the air in Iran. Snuff him bigtime.

selective indignation.

Pres Bush approved Dubai Ports to run a number of terminals in NYC and other cities. But lets not allow an opportunity for a gratuitous Rudy slam pass us by.

The issue here is that an enemy of the US, Stinky Ahmadinejad, wants to visit Ground Zero. He should be arrested the moment he sets foot on US soil. Mitt Romney is exactly correct.

“It is an insult to the memories of those who died on 9/11 at the hands of terrorists “ no, it’s more than that, it’s not only a insult to those who died on 9/11, but, it is a total defiance ( in your face ) towards all Americans to have our sworn enemy of the USA and Israel to have him even on our own soil.

Let Ahmadinejad go to ground zero. He really has no idea about the soul of America and this is the best way to get it through his thick head how deadly serious we Americans take to bullies attacking us. He may not get it at first but the holy ground of ground zero will leave a powerful impression upon him. Ahmadinejad visit to ground zero is the best way to get the message to him that America is not bluffing and he had better come around with his atomic weapons program and armed intervention in Iraq or his entire country will resemble ground zero.

You might want to do a little homework on how our intelligence community was working with UAE Dubai Ports to have undercover agents at all the ports for intel gathering. That is why the administration wanted to do the deal. I was as upset as anyone and really regret that I called my Senators asking them to stop the deal.

Mitch Leary: What’s kept you in the game all these years?

Frank Horrigan: Why don’t we get together and have a drink? We could talk about that.

Mitch Leary: Oh, I’d love to, but I think the less you know about me the better.

Frank Horrigan: Oh, why?

Mitch Leary: Because I’m planning to kill the President.

Frank Horrigan: Oh, now you shouldn’t have gone and said that. It’s a federal offense to threaten the President. You could go to jail, even if you don’t mean it.

Mitch Leary: I mean it all right. John F. Kennedy said all someone needs is a willingness to trade his life for the President’s, right?

Frank Horrigan: That’s right.

Mitch Leary: I’m willing.

You inserted your own line re Thompson into the article and edited this out of your excerpt without ellipses or a (snip):

Several presidential candidates quickly condemned the proposed visit...

[Thompson quote, etc., followed by]

A Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, called the plan "shockingly audacious."

"It's inconceivable that any consideration would be given to the idea of entertaining the leader of a state sponsor of terror at ground zero," Mr. Romney said in a statement. "This would deeply offend the sensibilities of Americans from all corners of our nation. Instead of entertaining Ahmadinejad, we should be indicting him."

I agree completely with Governor Romney. Post 9/11 President Bush identified Iran as a member of The Axis of Evil. We now INVITE members of that axis to the scene of the evil done to us?

NYC government does not have the right to surrender this nation to the enemy.

The UAE isn't a state sponsor of terror, the US has friendly relationships with the emirates and uses their ports and airbases to support the war.

You're assuming Ahmadinejad has a caring spark somewhere in his islamic soul. The only thing we Americans are good for is slaughter because we refuse to bow down and convert.

Maybe the ground will swallow him up. Or some enterprising truck driver will dump a load of pork rinds on him. Better yet, a brave fighter pilot pushes the wrong button and rids the Earth of him in one marvelous "oops."

This is not true. Dubai is one of our best friends in the middle east. They have more of our navy's ships docked there than anywhere else in the ME. It's a shame that even a reader of FreeRepublic was fooled by the MSM's constant bashing of Dubai's efforts to buy the companies that run the operations of a few US maritime terminals. (Media described it as owning the terminals.) The purchase was from a European company, IIRC.

There would have been government oversight of the actual employees, who would have been mostly the same people who work there now.

Here are the ACTIONS of a good leader -

Romney bars state security for Iranian’s Harvard visit
Cites unacceptable use of funds on `a terrorist’

By Farah Stockman and Scott Helman, Globe Staff | September 6, 2006

Governor Mitt Romney declared yesterday he would not allow any state resources to be used to protect a former Iranian president during his visit to the Boston area this weekend, and he sharply criticized Harvard University for inviting Mohammed Khatami to speak on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

There are people in this state who have suffered from terrorism, and taking even a dollar of their money to support a terrorist is unacceptable,” Romney, a potential candidate for the Republican Party’s 2008 presidential nomination, said in a telephone interview yesterday.

Romney said that he expected the State Department at a meeting scheduled for today to request a State Police escort and other traffic services, but that he had called yesterday to inform them that no such services would be provided.
