Ummm, down there in that well you must have missed former poster Snow’s continuous denial of the truth as presented by many of FR’s greatest as they provided all the facts and the links to back them up. Because we KNOW he knows the truth about illegal immigration, its costs and how every amnesty begets higher illegal immigration most of us here don’t cut him any slack when he lies for his employer.

Personally, I’m a little sad that he couldn’t muster up a parting speech that could have regained his credibility as an author and respected pundit. No, he threw his lot in with the soon-to-be-departed. Hope he saved up.

Fair enough - I certainly understand your frustration with him. I don’t know why he can’t see how wrong he is on this issue.

If Tony Snow lived in my neighborhood, a third world city called Los Angeles, for just one week, I’m sure he would change his tune. That is of course if he survives all the third grade illegal drivers, the gang-bangers, the Chiclets People selling food from push carts, and the diseases. I can take him to one of my Mexican friends and show him how easy it is to buy a job, or they can show him where one of the newest Whore houses are with the young girls. I can take him into one of my clients day care centers and show him how it is possible to cram so many babies into filthy corners. He may be impressed to see how a 3 year old knows how not to run out the open door onto a busy street. I can show him how easy it is to pay off a city building inspector or I can impress him with my ability to call a city trash truck over to my house to pick up trash on any day. We can eat at the local Jack-In-The-Box where there are at least 3 gangs hanging out across the street from the local High School. Maybe he’ll be lucky enough to be able to act as an interpreter for me when a local High Schooler comes to my house to sell me something. I’m sure I can talk to one of my Mexican friends and find out where the next Cock Fight is. I’m inviting you Tony Snow to my house for a week. Just don’t look the other drivers in the eye, they just may blow you away.

Our elected officials need to understand the difference between rulers, and representatives. In our Constitutional Republic, candidates are elected to represent us, not rule us. I believe that distinction is lost on many Beltway politicians, but it isn't lost on the American people.

Tony Snow personally may be a nice guy, and he has a big following here at Free Republic. And we all pray for his recovery from cancer.

But he is typical of that inside-the-Beltway, detached-from-real-America crowd that runs the government, the media, and big corporations. For the most part they live in gated communities and their daily interactions are with fellow elitists, not real people. They may claim they are one of us because of some relatively insignificant contact like their kid plays on the Little League team or they fill up their tank at the local gas station. But overwhelmingly their world is the company of fellow elites.

For Tony illegal immigration is not about something that starts out with breaking a law, and that continues with overcrowded homes, off-the-books and avoid-the-tax-rolls employment, depletion of social and emegency services, increased crime, and lower quality of life. No, for Tony and the amnesty and open borders/cheap labor set it is some viewgraphs about the global economy and lowered costs of production and increased business profits and record stock market advances.

Nothing summed it up better than Tony’s comment on his old radio call-in show when he berated a caller with a terse comment “Would you rather pay $50,000 for your remodeling job or $30,000?”

No further thought about the citizen-tradesmen who were put out of a job by cheap illegal labor, the taxes not paid, the benefits not covered, the industry wage scales lowered, the taxpayer-funded social services expended, the neighborhoods devalued - no, not a mention of those things.

Perhaps someday, when Tony and his ilk’s policies make Spanish the predominant language, he will find his speaking and writing jobs replaced by a glib Antonio Nieve who will work a lot cheaper than him.

Tony quit a $160,000 a year job “to make more money for his family.” Too bad those $40,000 a year carpenters and painters and drywallers no longer have any job to go back to, let alone a more lucrative job spouting and writing words. Their families have lost favor with the American elites who now prefer the wonderful “family values” of the illegals.

What a (formerly) great country.

Great comment.

I would remind you deportation is a civil, not a criminal, manner. When they are deported they are not charged with a felony.

That is the first time, after that it is a felony.

I am sick of hearing that. Even Giuliani, a prosecuting attorney, was dumb enough to mouth off that fable.

Once and for all, here is the law:

8 USC Section 1325. Improper entry by alien: Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

It's a crime, dammit!

“Thank God the founding fathers had the smarts to put the 2nd Amendment in the US Constitution.”

Unfortunately, the contemporary political leadership in this country is doing eveything it can to abolish it, or to render it meaningless.

He is wrong on this issue but there is no reason for us to hate him because of that

Hate? Who said anything about hate? Tony Snow can spout all he wants about how we need Amnesty for millions and millions of illegal aliens as long as he does it on the sidelines where that sentiment belongs in some dark alley.

Sorry you feel that way. You must be a democrate, right?

Actually open borders and Amnesty is a more of a Dem-RAT sentiment than a conservative one, not saying that Snow isn't conservative for I have my doubts, but most certainly Bush is not.

There was a Mexican man next to me in church this morning. I’d never seen him before, but he asked for prayer, and we prayed for each other. I don’t know if he was legal or illegal, and it didn’t matter to me, for he was God’s child as much as I am. Of course we must be kind to all people. But they should not receive amnesty for coming here illegally. Nor should illegalss receive benefits paid for by American taxpayers.

Email your Senatesitters and Congresscritters to vote no on the Dream Act!

“This new breed of American elites, however, are of a different class. They are like those Third World elites - they don’t give a damn about the rest of Middle- and Lower-Class America, as long as they get theirs.”

That’s for damn sure.

“... no political party is going to be able to survive without taking a good look at what is the fastest-growing voter bloc in America.”

The problem with a statement like this is that it forgets that Americans (and more precisely Traditionalists,..basically Conservatives of all stripes..) respect politically is A) A politician that keeps his or her word, B) One that respects the rule of law, and C) One that sticks to Conservative principles- -and does ~not~ bend..!

They forget about this and many “reagan democrats (Unions too)..and blacks” are liable to join with Pro-American + Anti-Amnesty R. Republicans to stop their elitism (and pandering-when illigal immigration really isn’t a racial issue at all..)
