Things aren't lookiing good. Hillary worried about these kinds of problems, but failed to prevent them:
" Of all the possible vulnerabilities ... Some sort of fund-raising scandal that would echo the Clinton-era controversies of the 1990s and make her appear greedy or ethically challenged."
Yet nine months into her campaign, Mrs. Clinton is grappling with exactly the situation she feared — giving up nearly $900,000 that had been donated or raised by Norman Hsu, a one-time fugitive and one of her top fund-raisers, whose actions raise serious questions about how well the campaign vetted its donors. As a result, Mrs. Clinton now finds herself linked to a convicted criminal who brought in tens of thousands of dollars from potentially tainted sources."
So they're returning the money. But then they're asking for it back:
" The campaign will try to get most of the donors to give the money back right after the refunds..."
But it doesn't seem like a very good plan, since there are worries about the donors, whose names the campaign still refuses to release:
Mrs. Clinton and her advisers are concerned that rival campaigns or the news media will dig into the background of each donor, and they want to be prepared if some of the donors end up having money funneled to them from Mr. Hsu or have shady backgrounds.
If the money was funneled from Mr. Hsu, it may have to be returned a second time, since the WSJ reports that it might be stolen:
" Where did Norman Hsu get his money?"
Meanwhile, Jim Geraghty notes conveniently shifting standards of responsibility:
" So let me get this straight... to Hillary, Norman Hsu gets the benefit of the doubt, but not General David Petraeus? "
I guess Petraeus neglected to donate.

Let’s not forget the Clinton campaign’s initial statement: “Norman Hsu is a longtime and generous supporter of the Democratic Party and its candidates, including Sen. Clinton,” Howard Wolfson, a spokesman for the campaign, said Tuesday.
“During Mr. Hsu’s many years of active participation in the political process, there has been no question about his integrity or his commitment to playing by the rules, and we have absolutely no reason to call his contributions into question or to return them.”

“The decision to tighten the scrutiny of donors did not come easily,” said Wolfson. “As Democrats we take pride in representing all the people. Up to now, this has included criminals. We’re not entirely comfortable with an exclusionary policy. This is what the Republican Party does. It’s ugly and it’s not the kind of America we want to live in. But to avoid being smeared for our ‘open-arms, open-palms’ policy, we’re going to have to live by their rules, at least for now.”
In related news, Senator Clinton expressed her disapproval of the $5 million bail set for Hsu. “This exorbitant bail will keep Mr. Hsu safely behind bars,” Clinton complained. “It’s like he’s being punished before he’s had a fair trial. He shouldn’t have to suffer like this. What he really needs is someone to help him relieve his pain.

The investigator(s) who uncover this, who determine if this money is a pay-off or quid pro quo with the clintons and the red chinese will, imo, deserve a Pulitzer Prize.
There is a very logical and HIGH probability that very serious stuff is behind this, I imagine everyone realizes this. ( Oh those cozy White House coffees with the red chinese conduits. Shades of John Huang. )
A connection with a red chinese funneling of state money into her campaign coffers would absolutely open the door into hitlery's dedication to 'any means to an end', even if it means a serious betrayal of her own nation. Follow the money, ALWAYS follow the money.

A re-reading now that more info has been uncovered suggests that Wolfson may have been unusually honest in his statement. "There has been no question about his integrity" = "Hell, yes, we knew from the get-go the man was a slimeball. That's why we told the Secret Service, 'no questions.' "
And "we have absolutely no reason to call his contributions into question or to return them" = "The FEC, FBI, SEC, and IRS might have reason, but we sure the hell don't. Don't you know who we are?"
They claim to have "vetted" him, but their own explanation of that is laughable. They said failure to turn up his criminal background must have been because they "used inadequate search terms." Most likely translates to: they googled the guy. Does the Secret Service use google and "inadequate search terms" too? Pfft.

Hsu was kidnapped in 1990 by a “Chinese gang.” That was Kwok Chung Chow (AKA Raymond “Shrimpboy” Chow) who described himself as once being in charge of all the San Franciso Chinese gangs. It wasn’t a kidnapping. A cop pulled a car over at 3 plus AM, with 4 Chinese guys, and one of them (Hsu) said he was being kidnapped. He was being roughed up. (Begs the question “What for?”) There’s no record of a kidnapping charge against Chow, who is now a model (sure) citizen of Chinatown, SF.
Li Tu of Asian Research describes a battle underway in SF Chinatown between Chinese who allegiance is to Taiwan versus those supporting the PRC (eg, Chow).
Allen Leung, a prominent Chinese businessman supporting Taiwan, was murdered (in a crude effort to make it look like a robbery) in March ‘06. There’s a battle underway.
Hypothesis: Chow was, may still be, Hsu’s handler. (Hsu got roughed up cause he was probably palming some of his operating capital.) Rosenman is a front man for injecting RPC funds into the Clinton Campaign. Chow was and Rosenman is trying to turn a profit importing Made in China knock-off of brand name labels. (Who cares whether Gucci makes bags in China. If so, all that much easier to knock-off.)
Hsu is a smoozer who woos the likes of Kerrey and other politicians with offers of money. Nothing new there. He’s a front for a foreign government trying to influence the Presidential election here. That’s not so new either, unfortunately.
Will any of this ever get proved? Unlikely. Too many cut-outs.
