Students Joining Strike at the 'U', Minnesota, They'll stop eating Monday

(KAAL) - Students at the University of Minnesota are preparing to go on a hunger strike in support of union workers.

They'll stop eating Monday, if the University doesn't meet their demands and change its offer to the striking union workers.

The group says hundreds of students have committed to the protest.

One student is protesting the protesters.

The student's English professor is holding class in an off-campus church because she refuses to cross the picket line.

But he's refusing to attend class off campus, so he sits alone in his assigned classroom on campus.

"We do pay a lot of money to attend this university, and I don't feel it's fair for us to have to be inconvenienced by a professor,” says Ole Hoyde.

"Ethically as a citizen and a human being, and as a member of the university community for 20 years, I feel like I cannot cross a picket line,” says Professor Paula Rabinowitz.

The professor says she's okay with the student sticking to his convictions, even though he's missing class.

University policy requires professors to hold classes in their assigned rooms.

But a spokesperson tells us oo one has ever been punished for moving their class.

You can watch Video at right too, time to punish someone for violating "University policy requires professors to hold classes in their assigned rooms", or throw all policy away.

I wish Democrats had ethics as good as hers, and would stop burning buying gasoline along with all other fossil fuels.

Decreases in School Lunch Program Could Starve College Children, this post has all kinds of potential titles.

I don't remember what the strike is about, maybe someone else could help remind us?

So I guess the school’s cafeteria workers will be out of a job.

OK... In reality, that will probably be better for them anyway, considering how many college students eat...

Okay, all you ex-college FReepers. Tell me if it's possible for a college student to go on a hunger strike. They have more junk food in their dorms then all vending machines combined at Grand Central Station.

Considering that most of the protesters stopped bathing some years ago, not real sure we WANT to stop the hunger strike.

Who cares? All strikes are about extorting what they don't deserve.

No, they will eat the rest of the week. When has a lefty ever actually gone on a real hunger strike? Have you forgotten the Cindy She-man "hunger strike" tactics already?

The only thing I can see happening from this "hunger strike", is the union delivering 10,000 big macs (paid for from the memberships strike fund of course) to all those who skipped a meal in suport of their cause.

Amazing how they have all these students brainwashed into the socialist/ union mindset. Any student who ISN'T a brainwashed idiot is denied his education, which either his/her parents paid for, or took out a large student loan for.

Sue these professors for not doing their job and holding an illegal work stoppage.

Hate to see them go hungry. Maybe the students could boil up some beans and ham hocks in the Muslim foot bath.

The Service Workers International Union, or some such name as that, is led by a man who saw an opportunity to organize a huge number of low paid workers, by appealing to the emotions of people on academic campuses. He also is trying to organize workers in hospitality and landscaping jobs who work for hotels, resorts, gated communities, etc.

I'd gladly go pee in it. In fact I invite all students attending that institution to go do that. Protest something useful for a change.

That’s funny, the ATU Union that is trying to woo my fellow co-workers also uses that “INTERNATIONAL” phrase.

Color me skeptical.

I seriously doubt any of these spoiled children are going to stop eating very much for very long. There’s going to be a whole hell of a lot of midnight snacking going on and a whole hell of a lot of of noontime media prancing going on.

And of course the “media” will cover the story the exact same way they always do: all propaganda bias going to the “correct” side.

SEIU, Service employees international union.

That’s not a tiny union led by some man. maybe the local he’s organizing is tiny, but the union isn’t. It’s an ultra left marxist cult. My Mrs. used to be involved with them.

They are all a bunch of crooks. They woo members with socialist crap, then take a hunk of their paycheck, steal all the local funds by placing a business agent to run the local instead of an elected local president and executive that is supposed to be mandatory according to their so called “constitution, and that’s the last the suckers see of their money except for a news letter once in a while. even filing a legitimate grievance against the employer is rejected, because such a thing costs too much to take to arbritation.

There are a lot of crooked unions out there.

This is a great college experience for these little communists. If they keep supporting unions, they had better learn to go without food. Unions kill jobs. Ask Detroit.

“Tell me if it’s possible for a college student to go on a hunger strike.”

It’s possible but my “hunger strikes” were totally involuntary. ;)

Seriously, no. They’ll eat. I don’t think people who can’t go 20 minutes without text-messaging someone will have the willpower to lay off food.

Anyway, it’s just a twist on the “I’ll hold my breath till I die” tantrums of a 3-year-old.

My daughter in is college now (not this school).

Making all the kids skip a few meals would be a good thing.

When I visit her I’m amazed at how pudgy the kids are.

You’d think a trip to visit a college would be great, with all the hot coeds and all. Nope, just a bunch of fatties.

And my daughter who was always thin came home last spring with a lot of extra weight. It took her all summer to drop it.

Hey, you got me thinking we have a branch of the U of M at our local Rochester Community and Technical College, RCTC, wonder if their in the hunger strike? I’ll ask around.

I am a Winona State College 3rd year Computer Science Student, 1 class per semester, $13,000 in student loan debt made me sick to my stomach, and I had to slow down, though I thought I would go till $25,000, but my I value financial security.

I gained 15-20 pounds my freshman year of college...part of the reason is the fatty foods these valuable employees serve ALL THE TIME...part of the reason was a massive decrease in my normally very physically active lifestyle...

when I got home for summer that first year, I had dropped the extra weight within a couple of weeks...it’s amazing what a little physical labor can accomplish...

as an example...when I was up there this summer for my grandad’s wedding, Dad had everything set up so we could re-roof both the granary and the pig barn...

I care deeply about this and hope every student pitches in and stops eating in support of this strike. Then I can get a seat in a restaurant in Dinkytown without waiting :)
