Obama's Latest Gaffe: Ethnic Cleansing 'Positive Thing' -- Will MSM Notice?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/12/2007 11:30:27 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Iraqi ethnic cleansing, a "positive thing"? That's what Barack Obama seemed to say on this morning's "Today." The Dem presidential contender spoke with substitute co-anchor David Gregory on the heels of Meredith Vieira's ill-tempered interview of Condoleezza Rice.

View video here.

DAVID GREGORY: You heard Secretary Rice say there is progress in Iraq that cannot be ignored. She spoke about when, not if, the United States prevails in Iraq. Do you see it that way?

BARACK OBAMA: I think it's important to understand that after two days of testimony [by Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker], here's the bottom line: that having put an additional 30,000 troops in, and continued the same course we were on, we are now back to the horrendous levels of violence that we were back in June of 2006.

So there's no doubt that we've seen some measured progress in Anbar province, primarily because the Sunni tribal leaders made a political decision there that they would work with the coalition forces. We've seen a very modest reduction of violence in Baghdad, partly because entire neighborhoods have essentially been ethnically cleansed. Those are all positive things, but we are now back at the levels of violence back at the levels of violence we were 18 months ago.

Do I think Obama believes that ethnic cleansing is a "positive thing"? No. But he said it, and made the "positive thing" comment immediately after speaking of the ethnic cleansing. This is yet another Obama gaffe, further proof he's a not-ready-for-time-prime player.

I expect the Hillary folks to pick up on this. Will the MSM? Can you imagine the woe that would betide a Republican who came within a million miles of suggesting that ethnic cleansing is a "positive thing"?

That’s no gaffe. It’s the true (Sunni) Muslims inside him showing through. He already said that genocide in Iraq is irrelevant. Now he applauds ethnic cleansening.
Obama is a genocidal maniac.

If he likes it in Iraq, he'd love Darfur.

Osama is blessed with a wonderful case of hoof-in-mouth disease.

Well, Osama Obama’s wife did say he was rather smelly in bed. So much so that the kids avoided the room if he was there.

I know three things about Obama:

1) His middle name is Hussein
2) He thinks we should attack our ally Pakistan
3) He thinks ethnic cleansing is a positive thing.

Some folks say he was killed at Tora Bora, but I hear he's running for president.

This boob is not fit to run a country. How did he ever get elected to the US Senate?

Well, first he ran for the D primary against a divorced multimillionaire. During the campaign the sealed divorced records of his opponent came out and sunk the opponent. Then the exact same thing happened to his (initial) Republican opponent.

42K40cleansing’ reference is straight from a CNN newsbyte... referring to Sunni’s MOVING... out of Shiite neighborhoods. So know we know Christiane Arampour is Ubama’s intelligence adviser... and that relocating is essentially a form of genocide.

I know it is unfair to the former Veep, but it’s something so simple even a driveby media type could understand.

RE: # 10

Why single him out -- we already know that slightly more than half of the senators nicely fit into that category -- and I'm not so sure about most of the rest of them.

I heard the same talking point from Chucky Cheese (limberger) Schumer yesterday.

Isn't that exactly what we want??

"How did he ever get elected to the US Senate?"

The press forced his opponent's (Jack Ryan) divorce records to be open to the public, which revealed Jack liked to have, or encouraged his then wife (Jeri Ryan, yes 7 of 9!) to have voyeuristic type sex. Plus a few other nasty accusations typical of a divorce. The wimpy Illinois Republican party dumped Ryan and choose Alan Keyes as a replacement. Keyes only got 27% of the votes.

It was indeed a gaffe.

For the sake of argument lets assume that your suspicion of his true motives is correct. He still would not want expose how he felt to the American voter. Thus either way, a gaffe.

Ethnic cleansing is not the same thing as genocide. Genocide is killing, mass murder, what Hitler did. Ethnic cleansing can mean relocating / confining (for example) all MoveOn.Org transgendered vegan wiccans to one neighborhood (LOL).

The dimwit media (with help from Madeline Half-wit) blurred the definitions of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

I’m not saying ethnic cleansing is a good thing. We certainly wouldn’t want to have it in this country. However, it is not the same thing as genocide.

As for Obama, he gets a pass on everything. He could have said the word “genocide” and the the lib press wouldn’t care.

I wasn’t equating ethnic cleansing to genocide. I referred to Obamas previous comments in which he said that a genocide in Iraq is not good enough a reason for US troops to stay.
