O'Malley rips slots opponents, Grasmick(Md)

ANNAPOLIS — Gov. Martin O'Malley yesterday criticized opponents of legalizing slot machines and Maryland schools Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick, saying he would like to replace her as soon as possible.

When asked by a caller on a radio show why he supports slots after having called them "morally bankrupt" while serving as mayor of Baltimore, Mr. O'Malley said that he is ready to compromise and that state lawmakers should be too.

"I hope other members of the General Assembly will loosen up and realize that compromise is not a dirty word," Mr. O'Malley, a Democrat, said on the "Marc Steiner Show."

House Speaker Michael E. Busch, Anne Arundel Democrat, has been the biggest slots opponent among leaders in the Democrat-controlled Assembly. And he is now the main obstacle for holding a special Assembly session to resolve the state's projected $1.5 billion shortfall, which likely would include discussions on using slots revenue to resolve the problem.

"Mrs. Grasmick and Mr. O'Malley's professional relationship soured after she attempted to take over 11 failing Baltimore schools when Mr. O'Malley was still mayor and running against Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., a Grasmick supporter."

I don’t usually (almost never) agree with O’Malley, but I see no reason to not legalize slots in this state.

slots

Slots are the lowest common denominator among gaming options. Perfect for the sleazeball Baltimore money-maker pols, who are used to the numbers racket and have never found a suitable substitute since the Lotteries came in. Slots are just no-class and will be a real drag for the rest of the state.

Why not real, well-planned resort casinos? Something that might perk up the lower Eastern Shore, or the far west. BTW, I cannot find anyone who admits to voting for this Kennedy-wannabe jackass O'Malley. He ran Baltimore into the ground (in fairness, it never has far to go) and will undoubtedly do exactly the same to the rest of the state, if we let him.

He's disorganized. A lousy administrator. Always did what the last shiite in his office told him to do, has unsavory friends, and is a wise guy and general PIA. The only thing the O'Malley is smart enough to do is never show his mug west of Frederick County.

Your comments show more affection for the man than I have.

That's exactly what I had in mind.

How about because the Dems were against this when a Republican was in office?

well, another politico wants gambling to balance the budget without raising taxes. Give him a gold star for original thinking.

has unsavory friends

Not only that but he's the son-in-law of Joe Curran - former Murderland AG and another stinking turd off the perpetual pile of Demokrap criminals running this State.

I agreed with it (legalizing slots) then. I agree with it now. I’m not going to change my opinion out of spite, although I could see some justifiably doing that. The guy is one genuine POS. This is more like a stopped clock being right twice a day IMO.

Amen to that...

I'd ask but you've already told me. :)

We don't have to do it your way down here. We might be able to learn from past mistakes. It's possible.

In a restricted way, I agree. Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware all have slots at the racetrack. Maryland tracks need upgrading and they need to be able to offer bigger purses. As long as the slots are restricted to places wehre there is gambling already, I'd have no problem with it. But I am concerned about spreading tehm all over the state, as Dimmycraps tried to do when Ehrlich was governor, and turning Maryland into Nevada.

Legalized in specific areas. There are quite a few towns in the west and south east that would benefit from this.

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with him.

He’s raising taxes EVERYWHERE.
