Police Break Up Anti-War Meeting in Washington (20 Reporters Cover 5 Protestors)

Mounted police charged in to break up an outdoor press conference and demonstration against the Iraq war in Washington on Thursday, arresting three people, organizers and an AFP reporter said.
"The police suppressed the press conference. In the middle of the speeches, they grabbed the podium" erected in a park in front of the White House for the small gathering, Brian Becker, national organizer of the ANSWER anti-war coalition, told AFP.
"Then, mounted police charged the media present to disperse them," Becker said.
The charge caused a peaceful crowd of some 20 journalists and four or five protestors to scatter in terror, an AFP correspondent at the event in Lafayette Square said. No one appeared to have been hurt.
Three people -- Tina Richards, the mother of a marine who did two tours of duty in Iraq; Adam Kokesh, a leader of the Iraq Veterans Against the War group; and lawyer Ian Thompson, who is an organizer for ANSWER in Los Angeles -- were arrested, Becker said.
The ANSWER coalition is trying to rally support for an anti-war demonstration in Washington that is due to take place on September 15.
Last month, the movement was threatened with a fine of at least 10,000 dollars unless it removed posters in the city announcing the September 15 march.
Washington city authorities have said the posters had to come down because they were stuck on with adhesive that did not meet city regulations.
"At our demonstration today we were showing the media that the paste we use conforms to the rules," Becker said.

ANSWER's getting desperate. They are reduced to publicity stunt arrests of flunkies like Kokesh and Richards. Note chief commie Brian Becker did get himself arrested.
Freepers and the Gathering of Eagles are coming to town to counter the ANSWER commies and stand up for America and our troops. Come on down and enjoy the day with us!

"At our demonstration today we were showing the media that the paste we use conforms to the rules," Becker said. What a fun life.
Think about everything you did today, and all your responsibilities. And THAT'S what Brian Becker did with his day... showed off his poster glue to the press.

Somehow, I suspect that there was more to this than a dispute over the quality of the glue. But what the heck, even if it’s true, it is only fitting that liberals would lose their freedom of assembly over another absurd government regulation. They’ve suppressed our rights in like manner so often that I don’t really give a damn how piddly their violation of the rules was.

Were there only a total of "four or five" protesters there or was it just that of an unnamed number of protesters, a subgroup of "four or five" scattered when the horse swung near? The author isn't clear. The article admits the group was small, which is a surprise given the media usually inflates the numbers of lefty protesters whenever possible. And the article only names four : Tina Richards, Adam Kokesh, Ian Thompson, and Brian Becker... so it does make a person wonder if ANSWER can only turn out "four or five" people for a "press conference" these days.
There only seems to be evidence of four, so maybe the author did inflate the number of lefties a bit... ;-D

As I remember, when 20 Swift Boat veterans held their first news conference at the National Press Club in D.C. UPI and one other news organization showed up. O’Neal and these guys had to write a book, have it published and make the best seller list before the news media would acknowledge their existence. The rest is history.

Having taken part in a few dozen demonstrations in D.C., I'm fairly sure of what happened here. ANSWER's people got arrested because they deliberately held a public meeting on public property, without GETTING A PERMIT.
The Park Service does not discriminate in granting meeting permits. ANSWER has held many before now. It looks like, in this instance, ANSWER acted without getting a permit so some of its people would be arrested, and that would get them some free ink.

CORPORAL Kokesh brought back an illegal gun from Iraq, took it on campus and lost it to a thief. He put an illegal gun in the hands of a criminal on a college campus. And he’s the left’s new poster poser.

They wanted to get arrested. Like the Pharisees who pushed their way to the front of the Temple to make a display of their worship, Kokesh and Richards need to be seen "doing good". However, Kokesh, in his own writings, notes that it was seeing a little old lady get arrested and realized it was only a fine and an hour or so in booking. Get your props with the hippies on the cheap.

Three people -- Tina Richards, the mother of a marine who did two tours of duty in Iraq; Adam Kokesh, a leader of the Iraq Veterans Against the War group; and lawyer Ian Thompson, who is an organizer for ANSWER in Los Angeles -- were arrested, Becker said.Well, that's a good start.
Notice how the "leaders" never get arrested. The two communist Becker brothers (Brian and Richard) are too important to "the people's struggle" to get arrested. Or so they think.
So, while the communists' useful idiots cool their heels in jail, the Becker brothers and Mara VerHeyden-Hilliard and Carl Messineo have dinner at The Caucus Room.
All commie dogs are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Power to the people!
To: kristinn
It looks like some good citizens of the District of Columbia have taken the work of commie poster cleanup personally...

*Not the best photo quality, because I was driving by, but you can see that most of the poster is torn down.
My sincere thanks to the civic minded DC resident who cleaned up this one light box in NW.

The charge caused a peaceful crowd of some 20 journalists and four or five protestors to scatter in terror...Wow!
The fawning media showed up in force for the press conference. Twenty journalists to report on four or five protesters?!?
Let me hazard a guess at the protesters...
1. Tina Richards - but that's a given, as she was one arrested.
2. Adam Kokesh - ditto
3. Ian Thompson - ditto
4. Brian Becker
5. If there was a fifth person there, it was probably Mara VerHeyden-Hilliard.
Or Wuke the wepohtew for gowiwwa wadio.
To: piasa
"Were there only a total of "four or five" protesters there or was it just that of an unnamed number of protesters..."From my reading it was a gathering of 25 or so protesters,

We're making fun of them.
They lurk at FR, and they hate it when we ridicule them. It makes them even more angry to be mocked. And then they do stupid stuff and get arrested.
Which makes us ridicule them even more.
It culls their crowd.

Somehow, I suspect that there was more to this than a dispute over the quality of the glue. Better believe it. It's my understanding they were putting their treasonous posters up on OTHER PEOPLES PROPERTY, as well as public property were such signs or any signs are not allowed. There was a photo, by (Mr)trooprally of one on what appeared to be a telephone company junction box.

But looking at it again, it might be the control box for the traffic light. Still off limits and subject to a fine, which they got. They are just trying distract from the "where" by referance to the "how" (soluble glue).
