I just heard of his passing and am very sad. He was a great tenor. Rest In Peace my friend.

As great a singer as he was (and we WAS), I imagine that he was truely humbled by the chorus in heaven if he was with the Lord....
Godspeed~

Wow — I was a little hesitant to open this thread because I wasn’t sure it would be so positive (please, no offense to anyone).

So nice to read such wonderful thoughts about this great singer. Thank you Pavarotti for developing and sharing your talent with the world. We are all so much richer for that gift.

Always sad when a great one dies. I was lucky to be able to attend most of Pavarotti's NYC opera/recital performances (only once each though!) and even a rehearsal or two from 1974 through the early 90s. I belong to a closed opera group and one of the members has put this mp3 tribute up which some FReepers may also enjoy.

He was a brilliant talent and a magnificent showman. Saw him perform in Tosca in San Francisco during the late seventies. Never before or since have I seen a more powerful, engaging performer. He was just a WOW aaaand he knew it, which would have been offensive in less capable hands. In his, it was a charming asset.

I’ll never forget the expression on my then seven-year-old daughter’s face during one of the standing ovations he earned that evening. She stood and applauded with a joyous look in her eyes and a broad smile on her face. She’d been transported that evening just as all of us had been. Seems to me that true talent is the ability to transfix and transport everyone in an audience. I don’t know that anyone did that better than he did.

I’m sorry he’s gone but I’m delighted he lived. I truly believe we’re all the better for it.

Classic Fm, a radio station out of the UK, is now holding a tribute to Pavarotti by playing his recordings. It is a fitting and deserved tribute.

Glenn Beck had a prett good piece with Pavarotti this morning.

Wasn't disrespectful in any way, shape or form.
But it was funny. LOL many times over..

Well Done, Senor Pavarotti.

And thank you for coming to Oklahoma City (a couple of times?)
to help raise $$$ for medical charity.

How sad.

I developed a liking for classical music only because of Luciano Pavarotti.

I was fortunate enought to hear Paravotti sing not ten feet from me at An Evening with Paravotti, plus a couple of dozen operas.
