Truly the passing of a great man.

Luciano Pavarotti was probably the most famous opera tenor to non-opera fans since the legendary Enrico Caruso; both had HUGE followings outside the world of serious opera fans.

The opera world has lost one of their greats to be sure. RIP

As great a singer as he was (and we WAS), I imagine that he was truely humbled by the chorus in heaven if he was with the Lord....
Godspeed~

Here’s a very balanced and well written article.

What a life. What a voice. What a loss.

Wow — I was a little hesitant to open this thread because I wasn’t sure it would be so positive (please, no offense to anyone).

So nice to read such wonderful thoughts about this great singer. Thank you Pavarotti for developing and sharing your talent with the world. We are all so much richer for that gift.

Always sad when a great one dies. I was lucky to be able to attend most of Pavarotti's NYC opera/recital performances (only once each though!) and even a rehearsal or two from 1974 through the early 90s. I belong to a closed opera group and one of the members has put this mp3 tribute up which some FReepers may also enjoy.

I have that, recorded it off TV years and years ago and have since transferred it to DVD. It took place at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Montreal; it’s just not Christmas till I watch it.

LOL!! I didn’t watch “Sliders” that often, so I didn’t know about that exchange. Sounds like a hoot, though. I love John Rhys Davies!

I do lurk on CAS (but haven't posted there for years now). My previous post on this thread has nothing to do with CAS. The closed list I was referring to is Ed's Opera Group.
