Afghans: Seoul Paid Hostage Ransom After Reported Taliban Rapes

South Korea paid the Taliban $950,000 -- or $50,000 a head -- to secure the release of 19 church workers abducted in southeastern Afghanistan, Afghan officials who took part in the negotiations told ABC News.

The negotiations took on urgency, the Afghan officials said, after two female hostages who were released last month reported being repeatedly raped by their Taliban captors.

The kidnappers also killed two of the male hostages, who were abducted six weeks ago riding by bus through southeastern Ghazni province.

"We have reports the various Taliban commanders were fighting over the women hostages," said Mirajuddin Pathan, the governor of Ghazni province. "They were abused over and over."

South Korean Foreign Minister Song Min-soon today defended the decision to negotiate with the Taliban, according to The Associated Press. The move raised concern it would lead to more abductions and put thousands of foreign troops and aid workers at risk.

With release of the hostages, I can't believe that the military doesn't know the whereabouts of the captors.

As soon as the last hostage is freed, the captors should be tracked down and liquidated.

I don’t know why they even paid. You don’t negotiate with terrorists. I don’t understand why those missionaries even went to Afghanistan. It is well intentioned, but that they don’t need another religion to add to the conflict. The South Korean military should of attacked immediately. They are really tough for sure.

I remember a story from the Spanish Civil War when a Colonel fighting the Republican side’s son was captured and held for hostage and threatened with death. The captures got a call through to his father and were trying to get him to lift a siege, if my memory is correct. The father said to his son, “Say your prayers soon.” The son was executed.

Speaking of 72 Virgins I hope everyone remembers how much they enjoyed the pic posted by a FReeper a few years ago:
It was of one of the Al Qaeda or Muslim Brotherhood types who’d been captured,and was about to stand trial. This was the dude who had some kind of strange skin condition with coffee-like skin but white teardrop looking discolorations leading from and circling his eyes-—altogether an individual as ugly on the outside and he was on the inside.
The FReeper’s caption was something like: “ATTENTION all JIHADIST MURDERERS———THIS is what most of the 72 Virgins awaiting you in Paradise will look like.”

The news says that the mood in South Korea is ugly against these Christian missionaries. Blaming them ! Just as the people of South Korea blame America for the stand off situation against the evil murderous regime in the part of their feeble nation America was unable to rescue from the communist butchers. I’ve been there and I believe it. I have no good feelings toward the mass of Korean people who despise their large Christian minority just as they do their temporal savior the USA.
