AIDS knows no age limit; more seniors getting busy
By LA PARKER
TRENTON If grandpas gettin some, he better use a condom.
With seniors having sex, its important they understand that old sex doesnt mean safe sex, and HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases know no age limit.
We know that people are not dead sexually once they reach the ages of 50, 60 or 70. They can get sexually transmitted diseases just like anybody else, said Henry J. Austin HIV Program Coordinator Mary Lou Freund.
Freund said a report released last week about more sex among the elderly is no surprise.
Its something that we have known for the past decade. But with that heightened sexual activity comes the risk of diseases like HIV and AIDS. If you are older and lucky enough to be sexually active, more power to you. But you better take the necessary precautions, Freund warned.
Freund said that Henry J. Austin is seeing increased numbers of AIDS patients who are up in age.
As of December 2006, a total of 132 individuals in Trenton age 55 and over were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.
We have a handful of people who are over the age of 65 that have been diagnosed. Just based on their immune system, the elderly get infected easier, and then the advancement of the disease is more rapid. Its just a tougher disease to fight among the elderly, she said.
Freund said that many sexually active senior women dismiss STDs after menopause.
They just figure that they cant get pregnant and thats it. But my message to senior citizen groups when I speak with them is to use protection, Freund said.
Freund said doctors represent part of the problem.
Doctors rarely discuss sexual behavior with their parents. I know that the topic has been broached one time in the past four years by my doctor. Its almost as if seniors could not possibly be having sex. Arthritis, high blood pressure, etc.? Of course. Sex? No way.
Check that adult living center where grandpa resides, according to Freund.
She said that those young women signing the guest registry arent nieces or daughters.
The girls know that they have found a man with a little money and can probably entertain them. Unfortunately, neither the woman nor the older man even gives STDs a thought, she said.
I thought nobody loved you, when you are old and gay.
Still stupid after all these years.....
Obviously it’s the old, gay and blind “in action”.
As long as you have money some people don’t care if you have twenty five tubes sticking out of you.
Last week my 90 year old Grandmother told me that she and her boyfriend were going to get married and honeymoon at Viagra Falls.
The Trentonian? I see this rag all over town, yet don’t know anyone who has ever bought a copy (I live right between Trenton and Princeton, btw).

A duck?
No, why would I need a duck?
Because you’re too old to goose?
This lady needs a new brwain, the old one is impressed by the obvious.

OK, so I'm probably a nasty, bad, naughty boy...
No, really I was!
you need to start reading the Trentonian editorials. Great stuff.
When that tactic splattered, focused articles began to pop up. Remember the articles that tried to panic folks about the leading cause of death for men aged 24 to 32, or close to that? Face it, men in that age group don’t die all that often, so when AIDS became the leading killer, it was supposed to be very dramatic.
Now it’s seniors. I notice the article didn’t provide comparisons. For instance, what percentage of elderly people had AIDS in 1995? How do the figures today compare?
As for sex between elderly people, what figures are there to prove that’s on the increase. Just because nobody was watching them in the 80s, that doesn’t mean they weren’t doing it into the 80s back then.
AIDS is a sad topic. It’s sad to see folks cut down by any disease, but it’s not showing up in the numbers certain people thought it would. It’s not showing up across the board like they thought it would, at least in anything approaching significant numbers. And because it’s not, it has deflated the plans of a lot of people who wanted to exploit the issue.
LOL! My Sr. yearbook pic.
They don’t, which is probably why the article specifically mentions women.
“Freund said that many sexually active senior women dismiss STDs after menopause.”
No One’s gay for moleman
And get Uncle Sam to pay for the Viagra.
