New Orleans: The Party's Over (Joseph Farah: Don't Keep Tossing Good Money Down NO Rathole Alert))

At least part of the city has been destroyed. And it should never be rebuilt, again. You know who is calling for it to be rebuilt at any cost? The same idiots who didn't lift a finger to evacuate the city – people like Mayor Ray Nagin, whose legacy will always be that photograph of an armada of school buses submerged in the big muddy.

Joining him are Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Hillary Clinton – all of whom don't see any reason to limit the spending on rebuilding the underwater city. Good thing these folks weren't around in the days of Atlantis!

So far $6 billion has already been spent – and that's just beginning if the politicians have their way. They are encouraging everybody to move back, put their lives at risk again and just let the American taxpayer worry about the cost.

It's irresponsible. It's reckless. It's the worst kind of pandering, waste and fraud.

Somebody's got to say it: New Orleans, the party's over! Your city is still sinking – slowly but surely year after year. It will only get more difficult in the future to keep the floodwaters at bay. There are parts of your city that can be salvaged. But it makes no sense to try to reclaim parts of the city where even the residents and businesses never bothered to return.

Don't keep tossing good money down the New Orleans rathole. Its time to tell the city the party's over.

Any way to keep the French Quarter and Garden District and forget about the rest...? Sad, I loved my visits to NO—but I’m with Farah.

I wonder what they're going to say when it happens again, and it's going to happen again. Just have all America perpetually pay to "rebuild" New Orleans?

As President Bush said today, you cannot rebuild NO until the levees have the integrity to withstand another Katrina. And the democrats squandered that money long, long ago. So let them figure it out.

The other areas hit by Katrina rebuilt without all the pig squealing being done by the LA democrats. If the city is inept, let the state itself get in the game to help them.

Here come the same old charletans ready to give away everyone' money but their own. That solution took the braintrust of clinton, obama, edwards and nagin to resolve? Another stellar democratic solution.

Of course they are all waiting for Daddy Bush to unbuckle the federal cash belt. Well, my friends, take a seat and be patient!

It’s funny that the Lefties want all development along coastlines and river banks ended to preserve “the wetlands”, but we must preserve a city that is (and will always be) under sea level. In the end it will be cheaper to move any monuments or historic buildings to high ground, and evacuate whatever’s left of the city to “New New Orleans”.

Ninth ward should go to the “Oil Companies”. Since it’s being given to them they can install the proper infrastructure and maintenance, put in a Big refinery, and call it a day, Oh and provide some jobs to the unemployed folks. Then build around this.......:)

FEMA needs to cut a deal with all of the local politicians and contractors: how much money will they need in their off-shore accounts before they allow some of the relief money to go to actual relief? The entire effort seems to be in their hands.

The French Quarter and the Garden District are above sea level. There is a crescent shaped area of land that both of those, along with downtown New Orleans, sit on. Hence the name “Crescent City.”

That’s why the Superdome never flooded.

Even building—or I guess “rebuilding”—N’Awlins the way Venice is w/ canals and gondolas wouldn’t work. See you ‘round New Orleans, it was nice knowing ya.

He New Orleans! Take a lesson from Hilo, Hawaii.

Turn most of that welfare sewer you call a city into a nice park and buffer zone.

Oh and get a job, too.

That is all.

Who knew that all those endless winters I spent shoveling myself out from under snow in New England were really the government’s fault. Does that mean that my father can bill the goverment for all the money he has to spend to plow the lots of his bakeries every winter. Who knew that we could have billed the government for the repairs after our pipes froze and burst that one Christmas. Wait, what about all the dry cleaning I had to pay for after a winter of trudging down Boylston St. in the snow in my wool coat? I mean, after all, it’s the government’s fault that New England winters suck so bad, right? (do I need to put the sarcasm tag there?)

Joseph Farah: Don't Keep Tossing Good Money Down NO Rathole Alert))

Did Ray Ray Nagin write this headline? "Don't you go throwin' no money down no rat hole!" I don't say that as a racial slur, that's how Nagin really talks.

What they say will be determined by which party is in the White House. If it's the Republicans it will be non-stop coverage of they looked the other way because the victims are black...it's becasue of tax cuts that there wasn't a limo waiting to evacuate everyone.....If the republicans and evil corporations would recognize GW and mandate a zero carbon footprint for everyone these huricanes would simply go away....this just shows that this part cares more about the rich and hope the poor minorities simple wash out to sea.

If a demo/socialist is in power it will be...look at the concern Hillary and Obama have shown why Hillary even put on a pair of boots and walk thru/on water to show her concern....Hillary says she will personally see that every resident gets a new home, car and unlimited income for the rest of their lives, regardless of he cost.

Farah hits the nail on the head with this one. I pretty much hate all politicians. Soliciting cheap sex in bathrooms is a very apt description of what most of them do all the time in one way or another.

Giving away billions to re-create a under-sea-level black slum has to be one of the dumbest things ever.

As a native New Orleanian still living( afraid and only until a situation resolves itself) in Jefferson parish- I COMPLETELY AGREE.
Remember the definition of sutpid.
There is no cosmic law that says New Orleans must be here forever. One more big hurricane( or even a little one) and nature will end the debate.

It will be funny to see the Rats running N’Awlins, torn between trying to cast blame for the own shortcomings (because you know they haven’t learned anything, why would they have, when it was too easy to just blame President Bush or anyone but themselves?) and unpreparedness, on the one hand, and begging for more money for the poor pitiful (lazy and stupid-other than children, the disabled, and the elderly) victims on the other hand. That highwire act will be a sight to behold!
