We have spent time on Hilton Head Island, SC for the last 8 years. The Marriott on HHI in the last several years hired a Black Manager who immediately fired a well-loved band of musicians and singers who do sing at pricey places all over the Eastern seaboard but do all kinds of music and are popular with the dance crowd in Hilton Head and always had a full house. They were immediately fired/let go when the Black Manager was hired now and only jazz was hired for the hotel. THe manager’s choice, fine, or an attempt for a Black only hotel?
Chauncey Bailey, the assisinated journalist in Oakland, previously wrote for the Detroit News when we lived there in the 70’s and 80’s, early 90’s . We read him when we lived there. He was murdered because he was uncovering corruption in the African/Muslim American community. And I am a native of Oakland, California.

I used to go to the Muslim Bakery frequently in the Nineties.Those bean pies and bean soups were delicious.Then the scandal broke with Dr. Bey and those little girls and that was IT for me.Can you believe that man had the nerve to get up there on his TV show every week and talk about”protecting our black women”and then goes and gets a 13 year old girl pregnant?I felt ashamed that I ever gave that man ANY of my money.
Chauncey was a prince,however.In 1999.a friend of mine’s daughter ran away from home.I took her down to the Trib building and introduced her to Chauncey.He was so gracious and allowed the mom on the show that very evening to tell her story and out the girl’s pic up on the screen.The girl eventually was found safe.
