Wasn’t a politician and his son killed out in CA by illegals? I remember something about a politician and drunk illegal.

Their gated communities will only go so far in protecting them...they have to shop, go to dinner, and doctors, etc. like the rest of us..it is there that they are the most vunerable to being crime victims. The young lady in TN was driving home from some function or work and was killed by a drunk driver.

Today the son of the Shelby Co (seat of Memphis) mayor has pleaded guiltiy to staturory rape of a 13 year old he met online...the guy is about mid 30's...his plea is for 2 years probation, registering as a sex offender and his record could be expundged if he stays out of more trouble...this is the other side of the problem...children of pols getting away with crimes that you or I would do time for.

To his credit the mayor a Dem did NOT bail his son out of the Knoxville jail..he's sat there 4 months now.

Freed illegal immigrants endanger public

In the interest of being fair and balanced, it should be pointed out that freed american citizens who are malicious have been endangering the public a lot longer than freed illegal immigrants. Consider what happened in Cheshire, Connecticut recently.

I certainly don’t wish it on them, but it is coming. The chickens (in this case, the “pollo”) will come home to roost. Sad.

OK folks -- I'm not out to start a fight, but many (not necessarily all) of the stats given here are just not so.

1. All efforts to find a source (i.e., the "INS/FBI" report) fail. All you get are other references to other bloggers. If anyone has a direct source, post it.

2. The one fact that I can definitively nail is the "630,000 illegal aliens in our prisons." DOJ has an annual statistical report, and the 2005 version has the following:

* State and Federal correctional authorities held 91,117 noncitizens (6.4% of all prisoners), down from 91,815 at midyear 2004.

And here is the link for the full report. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/ascii/pjim05.txt

3. Charitably, what could be happening is that someone took the stat "29% of people in FEDERAL prison are illegal aliens" (which may be true -- the feds focus on alien crimes, not the states) and applied that % to the 2+ million in all incarceration, down to your county jail. Which just ain't so. 4. Other sources on the web that have the same "SCREAMING CAPITALS" on illegal aliens also have such silliness as "$2.3 trillion in profits from corporations employing illegal aliens" (That's more than all the profits of all the corporations in the country) and "41% of all illegal aliens are on welfare" (that would exceed the total of all people on welfare, if you believe 20 million illegals, which the same sources usally do.)

None of this is to deny that illegals are a problem -- just that you can't make long-term headway with ranting that won't stand up. The real numbers of illegals in prison, illegals who commit murders, etc. is plenty serious, but we undercut arguments in the long run with phony stats and sources.

That's an absurd analogy, or statement.

Of course we have x-cons that are released and commit more crime and go back to jail. But what does that have to do with importing millions of other criminals?

Should we also import more diseases, more pollution, more corruption and more problems than we already have?

Well?

“This is the most unreported story in the nation. American soldiers killed in Iraq deserve to be acknowleged and mourned, but the media makes it look like we’re losing the war. Meanwhile, far more Americans are being killed by illegal aliens than by terrorists in Iraq.”

Unreported is correct!

http://www.mnforsustain.org/immg_mn_state_illegals_cost_study.htm

Per this “Report to Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty” in 2004 and 2005 the number of illegal aliens deported nationally for homicide were over 800 each year. These were just the ones deported, meaning they may have served time in prison first.

The report details this and counts for the top 20 crimes. Plus a whole lot more.

It’s not a count of murders each year, but it is a federal statistic, a factual number. The entire report is available online and in PDF format by just searching google for “The Impact of Illegal Immigration on Minnesota”

Illegal Immigrant Criminal Deportations

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported about 3,300 aliens in FY 2004 from the St. Paul area of operations. Of those, 1,571 were criminal aliens. The St. Paul area includes the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota South Dakota.

(number of aliens removed and % of total criminal aliens, ranking based on FY 2005)

...............FY 2004.......FY 2005

Homicide......836..........865

Absolutely. Also, when one reads the scholarly and thoroughly researched studies of Robert Rector of Heritage (and others), it becomes apparent that the costs of illegals in terms of prison incarceration, social welfare services, bankrupt school districts, insolvent hospitals, the drug cartel, and the suppression of the wages of citizen workers - they represent a NET loss to the economy in the trillions per decade.

Uh, I think you need to include County jails and lock-ups. County jails in some states are chock full of illegals.

The gov’t report (see URL posted above) specifically includes local jails. You need them to get the total prisoners up to 2.3 million or so. Regular prisons only amount to about 1.5 million.

Your cite is basically a good one. It is to a "pro-border control" group, but it is consistent with the gov't report: 69,000 incarcerated aliens (of the 1.5 million in "prisons"), 29% of those in FEDERAL prisons (only about 100k prisoners total).

Thanks

good figures. 836 homicides is about 5% of the annual total for the country. The stats are not prefectly congruent, but that would be consistent with 5-10% of all murders committed by illegal aliens, not 20-30%, as some have stated.

Still, plenmty to be concerned about.
