Sen. Leahy Lands Role in Batman Movie
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Holy Beltway, Batman! Sen. Patrick Leahy has a part in the next Batman movie.
"I don't wear tights," the Vermont Democrat said.
Leahy's scene was filmed this summer for "The Dark Knight" and involves Batman, played by Christian Bale, The Joker, played by Heath Ledger, and Alfred Pennyworth, played by Michael Caine.
The longtime Batman fan would reveal little about his role other than he is called the "distinguished gentleman."
"It's a pretty tense scene," said Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. "It's going to be a very interesting one."
He's done voice-overs on Batman cartoons, written the preface for a Batman book and had small roles in the last two Batman features.
He said he will donate his earnings from the film to the Kellogg-Hubbard children's library in Montpelier, where the senator got his first library card.
"The Dark Knight" is scheduled to be released next summer.
Who is he playing???...THE JOKER??
perhaps two face....
If this democrat a-hole is so “concerned” with our troops, which dems are always saying they support, why didn’t he spend the time he spent on this stupid movie visiting Iraq?
Word is that Heath Ledger’s performance is even better than Nicholson’s joker character.
Well I am sure we will have a copy of the script, the plot plus a lot of pictures and other info on the net in short order...
That'll be a real stretch of acting, since he's never been one.
The Leaker.
Has he leaked the ending yet?
Any Batman movie named Dark Knight gets my $10 automatically.
Egghead
What’s his role in Batman—— “Rob”in the rich, to pay for the poor...?
It’s only a matter of hours now before the NY Times publishes Bat Man’s secret identity.
Nicholson's performance would be hard to top. I think he captured the nature of the Joker rather well. We'll have to wait and see.
Guess the Hollywood Dim connection is getting stronger.
Rush should have fun with this one. Barf!

His diaper fell off?
Leahy plays to type. He is an Al Qaeda operative working with a famed Nazi Hunter played by Dick Turban. They are taking secrets and handing them over to Al Qaeda cells when the cape crusader shows up and beats the crap out of them. There is a big love scene later in the film at a hospital between Leahy’s character and the character of the Penguin played by Hillary Clinton.
Sorry for the spoiler.
(What a GREAT comment! WTG!)
I loved the last Batman. Caine and Freeman were excellent. Hope this one is just as good.
How about Depends?
B-52s fan?
Holy Securty Batman its THE LEAKER!
Knowing how he leaks classified material, I wonder how long he can keep the story secret.
Leahy’s role = a stinking pile of bat dung
Let me guess, Bat Guano.
Not the character, the stuff on the cave floor.
“Who is he playing???...THE JOKER??”
I think Leahy has an affinity for all things Batman because he knows he looks like The Joker everytime he looks in a mirror. This is the role he should play in the film, as he is the only one who could play the part without having to put on any makeup. Just look at his mouth area and the jowls surrounding it. It is Jack Nicholson’s face paint without needing the face paint. Every time I see Leahy on TV, I mention to anyone who happens to be around me that he looks exactly like The Joker. He has found his niche in life, and it ain’t as Senator, although he’s a Joker of a different sort while playing that role also.
Aha, he's going to play the Penguin!
The Moonbat.

Any chance this is written by Frank Miller?
Hey, if his character gets killed in the movie, I’ll pay to see it.
Shouldn't be doing another Batman movie where Batman's nemesis is the Joker. Been there, done that. I could live with Batman Begins because although it was a "reboot", they didn't trend on any of the territory from the previous Batman movies and the Scarecrow was a hell of a good villian. They should have followed it up with a live action version of Batman Beyond, a mirror image showing Bruce Wayne at the END of his batman career.
But a reimagining of where Tim Burton went with 1989's Batman? Forget it. I'll be skipping this one.
Bat $hit.
I liked Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, and Cillian Murphy. Morgan Freeman didn't do anything for me Caine's acting was good but he was miscast as Alfred in a "Batman: Year One" type story and he was waaaaaaaaaay too old to be Alfred when Bruce Wayne was supposed to be in his 20s. Alfred should have been played a 50 something actor, not someone as old as Michael Gough in the Burton era Batman's. And Katie Holmes was just plain bad.

Senator Leaky & Batman protecting Gotham.
And seriously... here's a screenshot of Health Ledger as the Joker. It's not working for me:

Everyone remember when they decided to "reboot" Catwoman and replace Michelle Pfeiffer with Halle Berry?
Too many of these young male actors today are total dullards on the screen, with a whiff (or stench) of metrosexuality. Ledger is one of them, so is DiCaprio (who was better as a teenager), with Orlando Bloom being about the worst. Where the hell are the MEN these days ? I mean, we can’t count on Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, and Bruce Willis to do all the macho roles.
Orlando Bloom produces enough estrogen for a menopause clinic.
That’s what you get when it becomes un-PC to be a man.
Did you sit through that abomination known as “Elizabethton” ? There’s 2 hours and 3 minutes I’ll never get back. That’s the kind of punishment only Dante could think of.
And what the hell happened to Cameron Crowe ? Didn’t he use to have talent ? Man, do I miss the movies from the ‘80s. Crowe’s “The Wild Life” looks like “Citizen Kane” compared to “E-Ton.”
Just sad. If Hollyweird stopped their open discrimination against employing Republicans, they might get themselves a whole raft of future male stars that actually have a pair (and increase box office).
When you put Ledger and Nicholson side-by-side, it's no contest for me.

I agree with you that much of the casting in these "updates" of classic stories is ruining them. Both "Batman Begins" and "Casino Royale" had excellent scripts but many of the actors made parts of the film lame and caused it drag on. The new James Bond (Daniel Craig, who says he hopes to "push the edge" by having Bond do a gay scene in the next movie) is too wimpy for me, and Katie Holmes was totally out of place in a Batman movie. Christopher Nolan struck gold with Batman Begins because it was miles ahead of Joel Schumacker's previous crapfest (1997's "Batman & Robin"), but what movie wouldn't be? Anyone could improve of Schumacker's half-assed effort.
I think Nolan is taking this 'making Batman real' idea too seriously now. Supposely he's changing the Joker's origin in the next movie because he thinks the idea that his face looks like that due to falling in a vat of chemicals to be over-the-top and politcally incorrect. It's SUPPOSED to over-the-top, Chris. It's based on a flashy action comic book series. They're always larger than life. This isn't John Steinback you're adapting. Put some life into it.
The other thing hurting Hollywood is they never risk having new ideas and feel the need to do endless sequels and remakes of everything. Batman Begins worked because the storyline and themes were so far removed from any previous Batman movie (If the movie had been about Batman, Robin, and Batgirl fighting Mr. Freeze, except with new actors, nobody would have watched it). But with "The Dark Knight", it looks like they're basically trying to rehash the premise of the 1989 Batman movie (Batman faces The Joker, has to get Gotham City on his side, and come to grips with his past).
We don't NEED them to remake the 1989 Batman. If Christopher Nolan wanted to do a new Batman movie, there was plenty of material from the comics that hasn't been explored in a film yet (Clayface would make an excellent movie villian). He should have gone with that. Nicholson had already created THE definitive Joker that is remembered by movie audiences 20 years later, and Nolan can't top it. By having Ledger, he's just going to get a third rate Cesar Romero.
You know that’s not actually a photo of the makeup they’re using, right?
http://www.newsarama.com/movies/darkknight/HeathJoker.html has a photo of the Joker’s “smile” in the new movie.
More stills from the movie, giving a better view of the new Joker makeup: http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/08/16/the-dark-knight-18-new-photos/
If Ledger wears that makeup in the movie and has any scenes with a metrosexual Batman, they can call it the “UN-ambiguously Gay Duo.”
I can just imagine some of the dialogue:
“I just can’t quit you, Batman.”
“Wait ‘til they get a load of me... when they pack my fudge.”
“This town needs an enema, and my baloney pony will do the trick.”
“But, you can’t make an omelette without tossing my salad.”
“My penis truly mightier than the sword. And it’ll cut through Robin like buttah.”
“Where does he get those wonderful toys? My Martha Stewart dildo needs replacing something fierce.”
“Never rub another man’s rhubarb, but you can rub mine.”
“It can be truly said, that I have a bat in my belfry, and a schlong in my thong.”

The Crow

Christopher Nolan's weird idea of "The Joker"

The iconic Joker as featured in DC Comics
Hmmm. I think Chris Nolan accidentally adapted the wrong comic book. ;-)
That said, I'm pretty sure Jack Nicholson, c. 1989 could beat the crap outta Heath Ledger, c. 2007 if they had a one-on-one fight.

Heath
