I still find it telling that while he was embezzling, he was saying it was OK to blacklist ‘dissenters’ in their new churches, for the horrible sin of resisting the hostile takeover of ‘transitioning’. Transitioning steamrolls those with more traditional preferences in favor of those with more contemporary preferences (what makes them more worthy??) and in the process sacrifices the message. (I have not seen a PDChurch that doesn’t sacrifice the message, much as they vociferously deny it.)

Rick Warren endorses Transitioning. Rick Warren endorses Dan Southerland who runs this business that Clyde teaches with. This is just a drop in the bucket. There are myriad abuses at the hands of purpose driven pastors. Because it is a WORLDLY philosophy.

Well, prepare yourself, You’ll likely find it happening around you too. I would recommend getting Bob DeWaay’s book “Redefining Christianity: Understanding the Purpose Driven Movement” and start warning your church before someone (in all innocence and with the best motives) swallows the purpose driven line.

Which has nothing to do with your headline addition, implying that he embezzeled because his church was purpose driven.

There are hucksters everywhere and under many guises.

I find that whenever my wife looks at somebody (in person or on television) and says “I don’t know...”, she usually is perceptive enough to pick up that somewhere in that presentation is a con. She’s been perceptive enough about the Purpose Driven Con over the last few years.

I think that if you start with a con, you finish with a con. You’re fairly brave in pursuing your position with this crowd. Like your screen name?

I think they certainly are connected. Just like the compromise and shame for the gospel which Ted Haggard promoted manifested itself in his embarrassment.

I seriously doubt it’ll affect the small country church I attend. We are 20 to 40 in size, and /very/ bible-based.

Still, it never hurts to be prepared and I appreciate you taking the time to provide the links and info.

I guess I am used to small, rural pastors.

Now, my pastor gets 35 or so, but we are bigger.

yep, but of course it goes way too far in the opposite extreme by being too hierarchal.

I wonder whether maybe we need to quit “working” to find fellowship, seek a real relationship with Jesus Christ, and trust Him to send us Christian fellowship with the people He sends our way every day - then if we get together to fellowship, it’s not some program or someone’s agenda - if we can keep it from becoming a legal thing like that. Legalism and rules kill. Christ ends up moving us to do good out of love for Him and for our fellow man, and through Him - life.

The church just needs to declare this money a “bonus” and leave it at that.

Talk about purpose driven...good grief!

My family has been attending The Fellowship at Forrest Creek for the last decade or so. Father comes from atheistic background. We were members of a baptist church years before. Now my family is more spiritually active than ever and has made a real commitment to worshipping the lord. Hard to believe this thread contains rational christian adults.

I hear ya. I like the close-knit feel. I have no problem with new people coming, or the church growing, I just have a problem with softening the message in order to get it to happen. (exactly what PD and other church growth teaching does)

re: During a session titled "Dealing with Opposition," Mr. Clyde recommended that the pastor speak to critical members, then help them leave if they don’t stop objecting. Then when those congregants join a new church, Mr. Clyde instructed, pastors should call their new minister and suggest that the congregants be barred from any leadership role.)))

Gulp! Shades of James Carville!

You’re right! Typical liberal unethical political behavior.

I have never attended your church. I used to live down the street from Roddy and tried on several occasions to have a conversation with him, whether at the coffee shop or in his front yard complimenting him on his awesome landscaping. Each time he would give me a cold look and walk right passed. Several others in the area had the very same experience with him, including playing basketball at the rec center with him.

Considering what he chose to do for a living, I expected him to be a little friendly. He reminded me of an Amway rep who was trained to not waste their breath on anyone who doesn’t want to support their success.

I also found it interesting that someone from south Austin told me they met someone from his church. She said their pastor lives in that neighborhood and says all the people there are mean. Unbelievable... His entire family flys through the neighborhood and only his wife would wave.

I completely understand the stuff about him recommending they call the new church of people who left his. That’s pretty much how he treated those of us who didn’t attend his church.
