Hey, I'm looking for some help. I'm trying to decide who I want to support this election now that my main guy, John McCain, seems to have little chance in gaining support. I'm stuck between three candidates, Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo, or Mitt Romney. I'm just wondering what the users of this great site have to say. I appreciate your time, ideas, comments, and help.
Dane So Dak
Ron Paul Baby!!!!
Tanc is the man!
I like Huckabee, but Tancredo tracks most wrt my issues.
Oh, and IBTZ
The election is still over a year away so no need to fret about it just yet.
Newt.
You want someone to tell you who to support? I think you are better off making that decision on your own. Look within, grasshopper.
Whoops. I forgot the /src at the end.
You really supported McCain?. Why?
You know - you could do a search and find articles about these candidates..
I’m hoping Bob Dole gets into the race. This could just be his year.
Huckabee is a good guy...sometimes too good. He has a soft heart for illegal aliens and convicts seeking release.
He is strong and solid in times of trouble, was very good on 911 and very good during the transition crisis when he took office.
He was initially good on taxes and local control of education but as time to run for President arrived he moved quickly to the “middle”.
He has a tendency to be a Bloomberg-like nanny in regard to smoking, eating what you want, etc. and getting government involved in making sure you follow the government diet.
If you supported McCain you are probably okay with Huckabee.
Michael Savage for President!!!!!!
What’s the problem? There’s plenty of other RINOs!
As for me -
DUNCAN HUNTER - ‘08!
Of those 3 I would hope you would vote for Tancredo. However I’m curious as to why someone who supports McCain would do a total turnaround and consider voting for Tancredo.
In order for me to make a reccommendation,
I need for you to answer this:
Why was John McCain your “main guy”, and what did you see in him?
You know - you could do a search and find articles about these candidates..
...unless he wants to be told what to do. If that’s the case then Hillary is his man!
Of those three men, Tanc is a guy worth voting for. Romney’s to the left of McCain, though he’s slick enough to hide it. As far as Huckabee, I don’t really know anything about him.
Also, consider Duncan Hunter - the only one who has the right answers to most of the problems facing us.
lol!
He’s not on his list but Hunter is the man for me as well.
Just saying.
you admit to supporting mccain? wrong words around here, friend. i’m going with fred thompson for now...
Politics is never discussed at F.R.
Just about right...
If you are a conservative, there is one true and consistent conservative running who has full credentials for the job on the most severe problems the country is facing. Please take a good look at Duncan Hunter at http://www.gohunter08.com. Thank you.
McCain was the man that I could see working towards a better future. With his reduced spending policy in action, the national debt would have been reduced. His stance on illeagal immigration was also appealing to me. But I guess mainly, I thought and still think that he is the candidate that would be best suited to work across the asile and still maintain conservative principles and an conservative agenda.
No disrespect but, McInsane?
I couldn't possibly recommend a comparable candidate unless......... Robin Williams is running.

You should have stopped at work (Cave) across the aisle, conservative he is not.
All will advise you on this or that, but what it really boils down to is your perception of their character, leadership ability, and what sort of people they might put into offices and cabinets. It will be very exciting to see who these people surround themselves with.
All of these guys are good choices; it will be the subtleties that separate them. Their running mates, how well the talk and present themselves
..etc. All are good candidates for those who call themselves conservative. Huckabee is probably the most right and Romney the farthest left, but none are RINOs like Giuliani or even to some extent McCain.
So are many FReepers. Including myself. I suggest you frequent this conservative forum, 7 days a week, several hours a day. You'll get enough info, facts and opinions to reach an informed decision in the end.
He already tried that and chose McLame. We need to rally for this guy. Of those three, Tancredo.
I'm all for promoting a candidate but Duncan Hunter?
Sorry, but switching from McInsane to Hunter is like switching from to Joe Biden to R.R.
I’ve always been a Henry Wallace man myself. Death To Capitalism! (At least as long as it doesn’t screw up my portfolio...)
Augie Doggy is on the right.
>Huckabee is probably the most right and Romney the farthest left, but none are RINOS like Giuliani or even to some extent McCain.<
Of your list of three, some are more on the verge than others. IMO the only man who can beat the Dems, who are dripping with money, is the most conservative of them all. I believe that is the man the people will fall behind in the long run.
Shaking my head. A typo is one thing. This is more.
McCain is not a Conservative. McCain working across the aisle is evidence of his lost Conservative ideals.
Stassen. My moneys on Harold Stassen.
Dane,
My idea is to wait at least after the primary. It is a bit early yet.
For the moment I like Thompson and Gingrich. The battle for votes will come to a pitch just before the primary. Seeing that you are in SD, the primary date is June 3, 2008.
Perhaps by that date, the primary will be pretty much decided.
Go with the guy that fits your agenda, or better yet, what you believe the USA needs in the way of leadership. Forget about looks, glibness, and tap dances. Go for honest plain spoken guy.
Cheers,
Sen Jack
“Augie Doggy is on the right.”
Augie Doggy is a female?
Mitt Romney is stressing the three legs of the stool (without all 3, it falls): a strong military/national security, a strong economy (he knows what makes it tick), and strong families (he is living proof).
Romney has business experience that would serve him well as President; he has a record of turning businesses around with wildly successful outcomes.
Romney saved the Olympics, no small feat.
Mitt Romney wants the United States to commit far greater resources to national defense, including higher military spending, 100,000 new troops, and government investment in an “energy revolution” to make the country more self-sufficient.
When it comes to strong families, Romney knows that without them, we are doomed to continue down this path of social chaos. I heard him speak Monday night (Aug 13) and say that unwed motherhood is one of the major problems facing our nation and I agree. If we don’t fix our families, not much else matters.
Romney visited the Mexican border last week and he understands why the average citizen is outraged. When he was governor he reached an agreement with federal authorities that allowed the Massachusetts State Police to arrest illegal immigrants. And boy did he take the heat for that!! Romney also recently criticized Giuliani for Giuliani’s past liberal stand regarding illegal immigration.
Now here on FR the anti Romney zealots will pounce and tell you that Mitt Romney is . . . they call him every bad name under the sun. They say he is pro choice but let me remind you that Romney admitted he had been wrong on the issue; like Ronald Reagan, Romney admitted the error and now sides with life and has received endorsements from pro life groups in Massachusetts and across the country.
The anti Romney’s will also tell you that Romney is pro gay agenda which is also not true. Romney has always been against gay marriage. He is against discrimination in all its ugly forms. Aren’t most decent people?
The anti Mormon rhetoric also rears its ugly head on these threads but I don’t worry too much about that because most decent God-fearing folks know that the LDS Church shares their values even though their doctrines may differ on a few insignificant points. Main point: Mitt Romney has said for the whole world to hear that Jesus Christ is his Savior.
Romney’s family is behind him 100% and a great family it is. Ann Romney will make a great First Lady and the whole Romney family is strong and bonded.
I wish I were a better advocate for Mitt Romney. Sometimes I get testy with the anti Romney/anti Mormon gang when they come up with the most outrageously hateful rhetoric that doesn’t even make any sense.
I am hanging my hat on the hope that decent citizens will see through the lies and deceit that hateful people spew about Mitt Romney and his family. It has to be hurtful for them but they march on seemingly unscathed. Wow - what a family!
>My idea is to wait at least after the primary. It is a bit early yet.<
So you are going to sit back and not vote in the primaries?
Or are you just going to wait to see which Republican wins the nomination to decide whether you are going to vote Republican or Democrat in the general?
Screamed about, yes. Discussed, not so much lately.
maybe Rudy could be his woman!
*sniff*
Interesting posting history.
Wow. I knew they could vote in Philly, but not So Dak. Maybe this explains Little Tommy Daschle-hund (the one on the left)
